I'm very interested in this game and I've been following the forum and everything but I'm hesitating to buy it because I don't know anything about motorsports and I'm not even sure I'm smart enought to play this game.
No, it's about two different approaches to motorsports: spec series vs. development series. In a spec series, everyone has the same car except for setup, so in theory the difference between drivers' skill should be more important. In development series, which this game represents, you design your own car to a formula (set of design limitations) and race it. That's expensive, so teams with more money win more. For people who don't follow motorsports, a partial analogy is parity in sports. Most American sports help the worst-performing teams with draft picks and limit the best with salary caps. As a contrasting example, soccer in the big European leagues is a relatively free market in which a few teams have budgets many times larger than those of most of the teams the play against. They get to set the terms, and naturally they're increasingly favorable to the big teams. Teams die out or get relegated to lower leagues regularly. It's common for two or a few teams to dominate a league almost permanently (as in Spain). Development racing series like Formula 1 are similar to the European soccer model. Here are the 2014 Formula 1 team budgets: http://infogr.am/team-f1-2014-budget-and-employees When it comes to games, a spec series simulator would be good if you're doing the driving, but dull if you're managing the team.
Young drivers do improve over time with no input from you, even at the first level of the recruitment program. I specifically kept tabs on their stats, and noticed them increasing slowly over time. Usually after they tweet about feeling themselves improve. Agreed that it seems like an oversight that main drivers don't improve over time too.
After play this game for some days. For me, is the best sports sim in the app store. The sim deep it's the perfect for a mobile game, I don't look to configurate all the car options like in the reality, I want to configurate some things and make changes during the races. The graphics are georgeus. There are a lot of races for be addicted for a while. The gameplay is very funny. I recommend this to all sims fans and of course the F1 fans. Graphics: 5/5 Gameplay: 5/5 Sounds: 4/5 Controls: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Loving this game. Had a woeful first season but winning races second time round and enjoying the buzz especially during the races. How often do you chaps changed tires? I'm pretty sure this is costing me at times. I see that the last set of tires used in qualifying are used for start of the actual race. Is there anyway to select tires before race based on weather as sometimes weather differs from qualifying sessions.
Ha! I just showed my sports-loving 93-year-old Japanese Mother-in-law (and gamer) Motorsport Manager and got her opinion. She said she really liked it. She especially liked when my team would make a pit stop to change tires. She said she got the same enjoyment from the game that she gets watching F1 on TV. But she also said that it'd be even better if it showed how many seconds the pitstop was completed in, and (now this is good!) if the manager could select an in-car camera of one of his drivers to get a 1st-person perspective of the race. Now THAT would be dynamite, but only if it was in a small window so the manager could still have a birdseye view of the race.
Don't let my frustrations/misunderstandings of the Young Driver program fool you into thinking I don't like this game. I love it and play it every day. I happen to find the on-track strategy plenty deep enough and I've won some races with drivers that were no match for the speed of the top qualifiers. Using the right combination of tires and keeping close eye on the weather can really make a difference. I've been able to get good finishes with drivers that typically struggle to run mid pack. I may have just realized that the Young Drivers improve when they say they like the program as I noticed last night that after the message popped up the driver seemed to be looking better than he did before. That may make the program a little less confusing and more tempting to keep an eye on.
Just before you start of the race you need to click on each driver to confirm the car setup and tire selection. This is critical because you may want to change tires before the start if the weather has changed. As a general rule of thumb you should consider a change of tires during the race when the wear indicator is at 25%. If you wait longer than that the car performance really suffers and you will lose massive speed.
I'm having a blast with it! Sure, i wanted it to be even deeper in stats/configurations/upgrades/... But we keep forgetting that this is made by 1 person! I hope this game sells like hotcakes and christian can hire somebody to make motorsport manager 2 even more awesome
Thanks Wedge. Can't believe I've missed that, probably too eager to get the race started. Also, good advice on the tire change. I've been waiting a little longer which explains why I've lagged.
Well there is a timer showing for the time that the car is stopped in the pit (usually 6 seconds or so). I am not sure what kind of information the timing of the whole pit stop (from entering to leaving) would provide since you do not enter and exit at the same location in a race. What I've seen is that with a pit stop the recorded lap time is usually around 30 seconds longer. Usually not more than 2 times in a race (at least in the first available tier of GPs). This number increases depending on the weather, accidents... It's mainly a matter of planning. I usually go for 2 stops with soft tyres rather than a single stop with hard ones but haven't confirmed that it's actually better overall.
It's a good game, I hope there is an option to say none when it asks which to please more. There were couple of times where both options were at 100% and since there were no none options, I had to choose one (sponsors) where it stayed at 100% and it decreased my other one (drivers) from 100%. Other than that, good luck on the app.
Hello!! Pros please help For qualifying rounds, how many laps did you send? Any tips of getting fast lap timing consistently and getting 1st/2nd? THANKS
Difficulty seems to ramp up a fair bit when you complete Australia and Britain. Started European league after winning first two and first race both drivers finished last. Not sure why my drivers would suddenly be so naff after being so good in first two
If you try looking for new drivers you will see they'll be around 5 points better than the drivers that were proposed to you when in the Australia/Britain GPs tier. It's a little harsh but I still haven't found a better way to deal with this than to part with the drivers that used to win.
No pro here but if the two drivers have similar skills, I usually send driver A first for 2 laps with the recommended setup, then send driver B with a different setup (eventually suggested by driver A) once driver A have completed the first timed lap. Getting a good ranking in the qualifying rounds is essentially about car and driver performance, whereas in the actual race there is the overall strategy that's taken into account. So my main recommendation for placing well in the qualifications : spend good money on the car and the drivers.
