It seems that every thread on the forums here, and threads at many of the console gaming sites have large numbers of people that are always begging to NOT use the various motion controls that are in the controllers / devices.

But, still it seems that Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo continue to charge ahead with controllers that have you doing futuristic dances in order to control the games. On the idevices, many of the apps are primarily designed to use the tilt / shake(even when there is no clear reason for doing so), and in every thread, people are asking for touch controls because they don't want to have to shake / tilt, etc. It seems to me like because the technology exists, then it has to be used.

So, I don't know how to make a poll, but is there that much demand for shake / tilt / motion controls, or is the industry just steering us in a direction that they want us to move?

Or maybe TA gamers tend to be more hard core ( I would suppose anyway) and the casual gamer prefers shaking, and waving?

My take on it is simple. Motion controls make money because it's new tech and sounds better than it actually is, the Wii is proof of this. However, gaming with it sucks as the Wii also proves, all of it's best games use very little if any motion control.

MS and Sony want to sell to the general public who know very little about gaming but think swinging a stick like a golf club is cool. I suppose they're also hoping there's a chance it'll actually work for better games too and the hardcore gamers will take to it, but I wouldn't place any bets.

If you click "edit", there'll be an option at the top to add a poll. It looks like 3 different colored bars.

Part of the reason Sony and Microsoft are going for this is partially because of Nintendo's massive success with the Wii. Sure the third party games for it blew chunks, and over time, you realized how strange and awkward the controllers were, even having to add an extra element to it (Wii Motion Plus), but things like the classic Wii Sports were incredibly fun. This is turn opened an entirely new untapped market of casual gamers. This is partially what Sony is trying to emulate with their wand.

Microsoft is trying to take it a bit further with 3D imaging and facial recognition. Think of (ironically) a more advanced EyeToy. Basically, the Wii and the PS3 without the controllers and depth perception.

It's something both companies have to do, hop on the motion-sensing bandwagon. It's the new thing in video games after Nintendo introduced it to us in 2006. Not to say that controllers will ever be replaced. You can't replace close to 15 different buttons with gestures.

The downside being there's a good chance Live and PSN will be awash with noobs who've never even played a game before. I suppose that means more kills, but it also means crappy team mates.

... yep, we forgot about the white middle-aged adults that will find playing "video games" will be a fun thing to do after checking the facebooks and the weekly bowel-settling yoga class. Oh, how they're finally getting into the times.

Well, I have a buddy who uses the Wii Fitness and actually finds he gets a good work out. But, I don't want to play games on a screen to work out. I'll go play tennis, or BBall with friends... I don't need / want to do it on a video screen.

I think that the sucess of the Wii was:
1 - half the price of the other consoles
2 - dedicated to putting out family friendly games

So many parents have no clue about purchasing games for kids for presents, or their own, and for the most part (NOT Mad World) the games are family friendly...

I'll try and make the poll..

It is not showing up as an option - maybe only first time it gets posted? Also, I have gone to the screen before for doing a poll, but have not figured out where to put the questions, etc... Sometimes I feel pretty dumb....
