    Hi everybody,
I'm going to make a series of 20x20 cm paintings in my spare time, for a total of 25 paintings.
Each painting will be an important character for the history of video games.

I didn't decide how many canvaes I'm going to paint yet, but for sure I'll make Mario, Zelda, Sonic, the Puzzle Bubble (Bust-a-Move) dinosaur, the Space Invaders guy and Pac-Man.

Who do you think is worth to be considered an historically important video game character?

One more thing: I'm considering to use the Pong paddle as the first character to be painted. Would you think it's a good idea to consider the Pong paddle as a character?

    Other ideas are welcome.

This is what I have for now:

    01 - Pong paddle
    02 - Space Invaders
    03 - Link of Zelda
    04 - Megaman
    05 - Mario
    06 - Sonic
    07 - Pac-Man
    08 - Puzzle Bobble Dinosaur
    09 - Donkey Kong
    10 - Master Chief
    11 - Solid Snake
    12 - Crash Bandicoot
    13 - Spyro the Dragon
    14 - Rayman
    15 - Pikachu
    16 - Sackboy
    17 - Kirby
    18 - Ryu
    19 - Slime
    20 - Excitebike rider
    21 - a Mii
    22 - Lara Croft
    23 - Bomberman

Good candidates for the last 2 empty spaces:

    - Rayman
    - Nurse of silent hill
    - Dirk the Daring
    - Niko Bellic
    - Abe
    - Marcus Fenix
    - B.J. Blazkowicz
    - Bowser
    - Samus Aran

I don't know about a pong paddle. Isn't it just a white rectangle? Anyway, sounds good, good luck with it. :)

Yeah, it's just a white rectangle and that's the cool thing, from my point of view. :) Maybe I can had the tennis ball close to him (actually a little pixel), but the idea is to start from the very beginning of video games, so... why not.

I thought a bit more about it and I think the final idea is to produce 25 paintings (20x20 cm) to hang on my future baby's room wall, 5x5.

    I'll think more about it.

Now I need to find 25 characters. :)

He's not that cute, but I'm considering him.
    Dragon's Lair is very important.

    I suggest:

B.J. Blascowitz, because he is the character who starred in the first true FPS, Wolfenstein 3D.
Master Chief, because Halo definately DID reinvent FPS, by introducing self-regenerating health. Whether people like Halo or not, Halo did shape the way for future shooters.
Big Daddy of Bioshock, as it is definately one of the icons of this generation.
Pikachu, for being the most recognizable Pokemon.
Gordon Freeman, because Half-Life is considered to be the best FPS franchise of all time.
Sackboy, flagship character of the PS3/PSP.
Kirby, for being a long-serving platform hero.
Solid Snake of Metal Gear (also known as the Talkathon franchise).
Captain Price from Call of Duty, because he is the only character who has been in every game of the undoubtedly most popular game series of all time.
Kratos from God of War, as those games kicked some life into Hack and Slash again.
Chocobo from Final Fantasy. Everyone knows Chocobo right?

Ahah.. :D he would be perfect, but I feel like to be coherent with the history of video games.

I still don't know if I'm going to consider any iPhone title.
I was thinking of Rolando, even if I don't love that game too much...
Rolando and Doodle Jump are good candidates.

Somehow I have to take videogames from the Pong era (or even before, if I find good stuff) to now and I should pick up the most relevant titles/characters.

Oh, oh, I have another. Miis! They pop up in all sorts of Nintendo games now, and seeing as most people seem to own a Wii, they probably have several Miis.

    Thanks a lot.

For now I'll get Pikachu, Sackboy and Kirby.

The main idea was to create something colorful with a happy feeling, so they're perfect.

Probably I'm going to put these paintings in the room of my future son/daughter until the baby will have his/her own taste.

On the other hand, this idea doesn't match with my history of videogames idea, so I think Master Chief and other masculine/strong characters should be on my list as well.

    Thanks again for your help.

Oh, damn... this is very true.

It's going to be difficult to choose a Mii.
My own Mii would be trivial, but I have to keep it in mind.

Should Megaman be on my list as well?
I don't know about him so well...

I'd definately reccomend Chocobo, because you have a lot of platform characters there, and Chocobos are from Final Fantasy (JRPG).

Also, I thought - Murlocs. Not even Halo has been as influential as the Warcraft series.

Well, he's very well known and made Capcom famous, so I think he deserves a place.

If you`re picking one from iPhone then it`s gotta be those pygmies from pocket god.

I don't like them so much, but I should make an effort...

    What about Dragon Quest?
For Dragon Quest should I paint Slime or someone else?

The other doubt I have, is which of these games series I should pick up.
I'm thinking to get the characters for the very first series of each game.
I love the pixel style of Zelda and Mario, for example.

Perhaps Ryu and Ken from the Street Fighter series. They also made Capcom famous.

This is true, but I always think "what are we going to remember in the future?".

Regarding iPhone games/applications I'm not that sure the pygmies will create that sense of nostalgia some people feel for Zelda, Mario and Pac-Man.

I don't see Pocket God as a classic game, because it's not 100% a game.

For this reason I thought Doodle Jump or Rolando would be better candidates, but I might be very wrong.

    Just my opinion.

I have to choose one out of the Street Fighter series.

Definitely one out of Ryu and Ken.
I wish I could paint both of them, but I have to be coherent with my idea and choose only one.

Ryu was my favourite, unless I'm forgetting someone.

I love Rolando, but the Pygmies from Pocket God are the ones to go with.

If you don't like the adult Murloc, try the baby one.

    This one looks better.

Thanks again for the help to all of you.

    I'll go to work now.
Hope to get some more ideas when back home. :)

    Thank you very much. Really.
