Anyone notice that the characters while fighting look 3D??? Also I just had an incredible experience with Jax where I ducked when blood 'came towards me'!!!!!!! When blood flies it really feels like it's coming towards you. Well on my iPad Air 2 it does. Phenomenal!!!!! The only thing stopping me from buying a couple of gold cards is that I don't want to have to keep paying real money for them. I can agree paying an initial layout like I did with Injustice but only if I can grind for more gold cards. It looks like that is a very slow and tedious process.
This game has the best graphics in mobile gaming. The thing is, they could easily make a legit MKX port just like street fighter volt, but it wouldnt make a fraction of the cash that this type of game would. This new genre of tap fighter or tap/swipe whatever you call it, is a good freemium design. Thats the sad part about mobile gaming, it will forever be in a state of "we COULD do this, but THIS makes so much more money so why bother?"
That's overly pessimistic. There have been plenty of non-F2P games out there that take advantage of what mobile gaming could be. Even as a freemium game, Contest of Champions showed you can use touch controls to make a decent fighter. The problem was the gambling aspect, grinding, and punishing IAP of CoC drove me away because monetization came before fun. Injustice and Immortals have managed to make money while being fairly player friendly. I'm still holding out hope that with the challenges and faction wars that MKX Mobile might still be a decent game. However, taking almost everything I hated about CoC's IAP and an even shallower version of Injustice controls does not make me love this game so far. I don't hate it, but it's not going to supplant Injustice anytime soon. Which is a shame because this could have been THE Mobile fighting game if they wanted it to be.
The thing is once you got a decent sized team in injustice, it wasnt a freemium game anymore. There was absolutely no point in buying any iap. They fixed that and i support them on that. Even though injustice monitized amazingly well, it obviously couldve monitized much better. I know its a step back to the consumers, but it is a step up for them and you have to realize that. Plus they couldve taken a way more stricter route. Sure compared to injustice it may seem a little more strict, but compared to all the other freemium games out there its quite generous
I would love to see a full freemium version of Capcom/SNK games with 2015 graphics, events, and constant content updates (things that can only be funded by freemium model). I don't understand why Capcom/SNK are releasing garbage ports like Fatal Fury Special instead of going all out. Don't get me wrong, I am one of the few on this board who bought the Neo Geo cartridge of FFS back in the days, but this is NOT how you compete in 2015. Card collecting and fighting is an amazing mix. I don't even think Injustice is done that well but still loved it. Why isn't Capcom/SNK tapping into this? NR has zero chance against Marvel Contest of Champion with their current formula, Injustice fell hard on top grossing rank after M:COC came out. NR's IP is much much weaker and it is time they take some risks and go for a deeper fighting system. WWE: Immortals has been a big failure on the charts and MK's IP is not that much stronger, neither IP is strong enough to bring in fresh blood if you didn't say, watch Monday Nitro and play MK arcade games. The biggest problem with NR is they are still treating their mobile fighting games as companion apps, with weak security (way too many hackers in Injustice!), mediocre effort, when Marvel:COC made more money than any of the NR console games. Their Injustice/MK console games are deep enough to be on Evo tournaments, they can definitely offer more depth in the mobile version to overcome the weak IP. I tolerated Injustice's shallow fighting system for a few months because card collecting + fighting game is just too much fun, but I can not get into another one of these without significantly more advanced combat.
The monitization has nothing to do with the IP. Sure the IP works good for marketing, but definitely not monitization. Its all about the formula Edit: finally able to connect online!
See, this is why I hate F2P gaming. 330 souls to buy Sub Zero. 300 souls costs £14.99 via IAP. Get lost.
I'm an old school mortal kombat fan and I can't stand the swipe/tap controls either.. But hey a lot of people dig it.. Graphics kick ass though ####
Well. I needed a fighting game and I've finished with SF4 Volt after playing with it for over a year and This is better than Injustice and WWE. Let's put it that way. I wish fatalities were there though. I do like the Bone cracking/muscle showing thingy when you use an ally though.
It has Fatalities, I just did one on Kano. You get to do one on the first boss fight. Its the tower with flame on the top -Altrez
