So this thread is about comparing TES3 Morrowind to TES4 Oblivion. Please state which one you think is better and why.

I have played both goty editions on my pc and I think both games are amazing however I think Morrowind is better.

Morrowind is better because the world's landscape and cultures are so diverse, for example the costal regions are swampy and it feels and looks foggier, diritier, and swampier than the inland regions. There is also a desert type area with ash storms with a big mountain in the middle. Also the cities feel very unique, the city of Vos is one of the coolest things I have seen in a video game even today. Also the archetucture of each city is different and shows lots of creativity. Finally there is so much in Morrowind to see, just wandering around you will stumble on many caves, tombs, ruins, and shrines that, most of the time contain some baddies and some loot, but can sometimes hide epic weapons and armor. You just never know what you'll find exploring the land of Morrowind. Morrowind gave you absolute freedom.

Oblivion has prettier graphics and a more streamlined interface but in the end it feels, like most games these days, simplified for the masses. For example combat is improved greatly but more emphasized in Oblivion while adventuring around feels less important. Also the main quest was a joke, it basically followed the lines of go there, kill some stuff, close the gate, go there kill more stuff, close another gate, etc... The good part about Oblivion's main quest was that it wasn't as vague as Morrowind's which didn't start until several hours into the game. Oblivion's cities also feel more bland and uniform compared to Morrowind's cities.

To sum up, somebody on the official elder scrolls forum said something like "In Oblivion you go inside a cave to kill stuff and get loot, in Morrowind you go in to see what's inside." That's why I prefer Morrowind over Oblivion because of the amazing freedom and adventuring.

Morrowind with MGE and a ton of gameplay balancing mods, as well as a real time combat mod.

I don't love either, but I voted for Oblivion because I couldn't get into Morrowind. I guess I'm "the masses" :p

Morrowind -- It was easier to decorate homes in MW -- picking up and putting down stuff is more precise and you can have one in any location you like.

The compass and map in MW didn't reveal too much. (A nice detailed map did come with the game; if you examine it carefully, you can find out where some caves are.) Oblivion's compass gave away too much -- you know there's a cave up ahead without even being able to see it there.

MW's cities are unique and memorable. Oblivion's are generic medieval and vary very little.

Morrowind's main quest is better than Oblivion's, but I felt that Oblivion's side quests were more interesting than those in MW. Combat is better in Oblivion but the "enemies level up with you" is not well implemented.

Count me among the 'masses' too. Morrowind was good, but it just felt a bit clunky.

I love them both, but I think Morrowind may clinch it for me... It was more memorable, I just loved all the varying scenery, and was disappointed that there were no mushroom trees and giant vegetable houses in Oblivion...

I have morrowind and the expansions installed even now it just feels bigger and more open in my opinion and the mods available even bring the graphics up to date.
