The most important thing is the length of the levels. If it's again short or slightly bigger than the main game, I think it will be disappointing. I believe that the number one of the complains of ALL the people when they had played the game is that you can finish it in just a 2-3 hours !! I hope the update will be delayed long enough to put too much depth and not be linear again. I know it's difficult to have the quality and quantity at high levels but that's why I'm saying that if you will charge us again, please delay it to have it an excellent update so that no one will complain.
The fact you don't believe 2-3 hours worth of beautiful content is worth a couple of dollars saddens us.
Ill take a shorter enjoyable game over a longer not so enjoyable one any day of the week. A few pounds for a few hours of beautiful and highly enjoyable gameplay and amusement is a bargain, I'd honestly have happily paid the initial price again for the new levels.
Don't take it to heart some people will always complain about paying anything and just expect you to work for free. But I'm sure there are more than enough people like myself that are happy to pay for the update as it does sound like a big update and not a little one. Also you don't rely on IAP content as others do like say CoC they churn out updates and don't charge but they get by on IAP for funding so of course they don't need to charge. My only question is and sorry if I missed it already, will it be an app update or IAP added into the existing app? My preference would be to keep it all in one app.
The expansion will be available as an in game purchase for the preexisting version of Monument Valley, as opposed to a separate download.
I wish it was the opposite, personally. If the update is similar in size to the original game, I would really prefer that it was a stand alone app. I imagine that the sales would be higher for it as a sequel than it would be for an in-app purchase as well.
Our thoughts always were that people would criticism us for not releasing the preexisting levels we promised. Also we believed that we wouldn't want to release a sequel unless it was a true evolution of the concept as opposed to more content in a similar vein. It's surprising you mention you'd like it that way as we'd assumed everyone would think otherwise.
I was just opposed to it as a seperate app as the file size would be much larger than simply being a DLC die to needing all the game files and engine to all be installed again rather than running off what you already have installed. Not sure how big that is but still.
Apologies if there was some confusion, but we never intended any content be be specific to early adopters. We were playing with the idea of having the first chapter of the expansion to be made free and the rest paid, but as mentioned further up the fragmentation proved to be problematic from a design and narrative stand point.
The only ones who will think a promise is being broken are those who thought they were getting the new levels for free. Also, I've read that only 0.15% of players even make in-app-purchases at all, at least for free games. If the % of players who make in-app-purchases on paid games is anything like that it sure makes adding content that way seem like a bad idea.
