Lol! This game has been featured prominently in the most important blogs that write about games. It's been featured by Apple in the App Store in several countries and it reached #1 in all of them. If that's not coverage, I don't know what is.
Completed Monument Valley this morning. It definitely has an XBox Indie Games vibe to it. I really liked the length of this game. It ended just as I was beginning to get bored of the game mechanics. However, I had encountered one problem playing it. The tenth level, which is the final one, had a tremendous difficulty spike. I was able to play through the previous nine levels with my eyes closed, but had to resort to Youtube for this last level. Was this artificial difficulty spike a marketing decision to prolong the gameplay time? It really felt out of place. I also encountered a bug for the first time on this last level. It restored my game properly the first time I saved there to look for clues on the internet. The second time, which was at the final cube room puzzle (the star switch had appeared) it totally did not save and threw me back to the first time I played the cube room... Plot questions: Spoiler What is the princess and the crow? In one of the earlier levels, the white crow appeared on a parallel track with the princess. However, at the end, the princess was revealed to have been the white crow all along. What is going on here? What is the story with the old woman, the crows and the geometric civilisation
Really? I don't think it was any more difficult than the other levels. Actually I felt pretty stupid when I figured it out because I felt it was so obvious. Definitely a great "Duh, aha" moment for me I didn't get any vibe of an "artificial difficulty spike", in fact the whole game was pretty easy
Same here. 10 was harder than 8 and 9 I think but that's only coz I thought 8 and 9 were suddenly easier than ones before so the difficulty curve wasn't all that smooth. The level where you just go down the long stairs was kind of weak I thought. Game was all quite linear really (ironically except for the difficulty curve!) but brilliant none the less. Can't even imagine the amount of work involved to design it 0_o
My thoughts on the story are this: Spoiler The white crow is the former king/queen that is now dead, whom the princess pays her respects to at the end (guilt, perhaps?) Or it could be a metaphor for the heirship she didn't accept but sees reflected in herself. However I think it likely to be a ghost as it appears right before you get to the grave of the king/queen. I think that the princess revoked her rulership or something along those lines, and the that revoking was either the cause of the geometric people's fall or occurred during the same time. The transparent woman I am not sure about. However, she does call the princess 'thieving'...which begs the question of what was taken. If you take it literally, you'll notice that the princess possesses each of the geometric keys that unlock the next levels - I think that maybe she stole them, or they were a result of her heirship. She possesses a kind of ability through them to "wake up" the geometric world she abandoned. At the end, she accepts her place and as a result is able to restore the geometric people to some shadow of their former glory. Hints: - one chapter says "in which Ida embarks on a quest for forgiveness" (forgiveness for what? What did she do?...or didn't do) - second to last chapter says "in which there is no one left to forgive us" (grave of king/queen, flower) - last chapter says "in which that which is not meant for us is all returned"...what is returned? Peace? Rest?
Spoiler I noticed on my second play through, that parallel track is actually a mirror. That part makes much more sense knowing that (and actually helps you solve the 'puzzle' of how high to raise/lower the structure to bridge the gap).
I feel so bad that your STILL waiting. What the heck is wrong with the dev?! You heard em. Drop the price a few days after release! /s
This game is simply gorgeous, I've enjoyed every second of it. I've found it a little bit too easy, but I think later level packs will have more difficult levels.
Same here. As I posted earlier I felt the final level was a bit of an anti climax. The levels going before it had a real sense of exploration and journey but level ten felt a bit tacked on...
I purchased the game and played the first four levels. Enjoyed it so far. Maybe the puzzles are a little on the simple side, but the charming atmospere makes up for it. Congratulations to the devs for a tremendously well crafted product! Highly recommended.
Spoiler I think you're making it more complicated that it is. She's one of the crow people but doesn't realize it, and the mirror was just showing us her true form. In the end she takes her true form, and also helps the rest of the crow people get their wings back. That's how I saw it, anyway.
This is great news! (Normally I would read a whole thread before asking a possibly answered question, but this is the third thread about this game on TA that I've followed, so...)
I don't regret buying this game. It's pretty. The crows are cute. I like Escher's pictures. That said, I wouldn't describe waiting for a price drop as "disgusting". This is an hour long "game". I hesitate to describe it as a game, there is almost no skill involved - it's more like an interactive movie or art project. There are many cheaper games that will provide much more entertainment for much longer.
Subjective. I respect it as your opinion, but not everybody thinks like that. For me, so far, this is iOS Game of the Year. I loved every moment of the game, and found its length just right.
One, the game is only $4 for a two hour experience. That's an absolute steal. I'd have easily paid $10 if this was on PC or consoles. Journey was $15 and I enjoyed Monument Valley far more as a game and piece of art Two, length or difficulty doesn't define a game's worth. That seems like a pretty shallow empty way of determining if a game is "worth it". Monument Valley is the epitome of what IOS gaming should be. An original IOS exclusive, a premium game devoid of ads or in-app purchases, an experience that puts visual artistry and atmosphere first, that uses the tactile tangible nature of the touchscreen to its fullest potential, that is simple yet engaging and compelling.
Monument Valkey's short length was a buying point for me. I have too many unfinished games that are stuffed with fillers...
Still kicking it at the top of the charts here and on the App Store. That says it all I think this will be one of those games that doesn't need to drop its price and why should they it's a brilliant game and well worth it! Hopefully we'll see some more. The constant sales seem to confirm everybody's opinion!
