Hi guys, we don't want to be the team that goes into hiding as soon as the difficult questions come out, so we're more than happy to talk about length. It's true the game is relatively short in comparison to other titles, some with a good problem solving brain have speed run it in 45 minutes, others have played it in multiple sessions over the last 24 hours. For us it's been a case of what is the absolutely best quality thing we can produce for a price point that iOS players feel is acceptable. It's true that we could have used the same art style in each chapter, copied audio design and other mechanics in order to stretch out the experience. But is it something that people would remember or feel passionately about? For us this project has been a statement of what we think we can achieve on mobile devices and we'd love to expand upon that with more content. We just hope you guys want this level of quality and are willing to come on the journey with us.
To be fair i think the majority are in love with it, we just want more more more ! Again thats whats great about the app store, i didnt know anything about this game, no previews, no news, it just turned up the other night and so many of us were like 'woahhhhhh' ! Played it tons as we love it, really enjoyed it, just hope we get more. I'm sure the dev will give us more at some point. This is a great little game, game of the week for me even against the mighty FTL
Highly agree here. I don't want more levels of the same, featuring the same mechanics, most games just add more levels for the sake of it but that doesn't mean its always good, makes the mechanic more repetitive over time. What you have done here is give us a full experience full of "oh this is neat", "amazing", "cool" nonstop throughout the whole game. No diluted material, or overly made more levels, just a full experience. And thank you that. My Game of the Year so far. Out There is right behind it. Both offers unique gameplay experiences that I strive for on any platform.
Short and sweet can be good. But just getting your teeth into a game for it to end can also be frustrating no? It's all about getting the balance right. The first few levels can be done blindfolded, it does feel more like a tech demo than a fully fledge game and that is going to be a big disappointment to some. Waiting months for a game that can be finished in minutes is hardly what the doctor ordered or wanted GaZ
It's simple really. Support the devs. The game (short or not) is worth the money and doubly worth the potential for further investment in terms of new levels and continued support. They can't obviously commit to anything because it's all dependent on the profits made from this release but if there has ever been a title that is deserving of success - this is it. Got to hope it achieves it.
Didn't find this post before and I highly agree with it. How many games have I deleted just because 1) the developers just keep adding content that isn't fresh, just more of the same. or 2) the game just repeated the same mechanics over and over to the point of exhaustion. So I will take games like Monument Valley that is an incredibly run over the ones that dilute over time.
Exactly. Its a 'bit' like a kickstarter where you put money down hoping to get a game 9 months or so later. With hopefully so many people getting this then we'll certainly get updates or something else from these talented devs. If (or now) they realise they have a hit on their hands i think we'll be taken care of
I bought it first thing in the morning, but only now I had a chance to play it. The first 6 chapters took me only 30 minutes, so I made myself stop not to rush through it. Even though this was a bit fast I must say, I already got my money's worth. It's breathtakingly beautiful, its unique and you just see and feel all the thought that went into it. I don't regret buying it at all, thanks for this beautiful game! One tiny tiny critisism though: I felt a wee bit cheated, that the very first structure already constitutes as a chapter. It was not really "chapter-worthy", was it?
before i bought this game first i asked what kind of game it is then i read most of the comments and i saw some of the beta testers said takes around 90min. to finish and even if im not into most of the puzzle games i bought this one 'cos i liked the art style, i finish the game in an hour or so i think, and i enjoyed every part of it, is short but good -i'm more into quality over quantity i took a look at top paid games from my country store and this one is on 3rd place, and was just realesed, don't know how it got so up so fast but deserves the top, this way maybe we will get more content soon. gl
I agree. Posted this in the review comments, in response to people feeling that the length should mean a lower score Personally, when I review games, I don't score them. Mainly because of stuff like this. A game isn't a singular entity, but myriad variables working in sync to deliver an experience. How can a single number or ranking possibly represent the entire spectrum of that experience, from the wonderful highs to its frustrating lows and every aspect in between? Length isn't an issue here. While some may feel like the game should be longer (and I certainly welcome more chapters), I believe that the delivered game feels like a complete full experience. A beginning, a build-up to the climax (Chapter 8, give or take), an ending. Each chapter is so different and unique, and you can tell they were all crafted with passion and care. Nothing feels rote or added for the sake of stuffing in more content. A game with that much care, with this level of artistry in its design, its music, its gameplay, all coalescing into such a wonderful experience, if that's not worthy of its perfect score, I don't know what is
Well done ustwo. Editors choice in the UK, positive reviews pouring in (5 stars at the moment). Maybe the App Store public have a bit more to them than the prophecies in this thread would have you believe? Also 4th paid app... Once again congratulations ustwo, I hope this is a commercial success and encourages you to do more like it.
Editors choice also in Greek Appstore... Hope it makes some good sales for the devs... Despite the short run the game is a masterpiece... On par with Superbrothers Sword & Sworcery or Yearwalk... Not just a game but an artistic oasis for the eyes and the ears... As a lot of people here said is an experience!
the game is extremely impressive, but too short, it's just too short no way around it. If they could figure a way to randomly generate levels for endless play -- this would be one of the best games available on iOS.
Worth every penny but already deleted after playing twice. Looking forward to new levels and a third replay if this happens. My GOTW, since the only game i was interested in this very, for me, boring week.
won me over as soon as I rotated the first path to unveil the paradox I see everyone is saying it's short, but as far as the idea and execution are concerned, I can already say it's amazing!
these levels clearly had a lot of thought put into them. if they were randomly generated, they couldn't possibly be so nicely filled with paradoxes and progression. i just don't see how that could work. the game's already doing very well, so this should hopefully be enough to encourage the devs to keep adding levels (and soon!) - that's the best solution in my opinion.
I'm on level 8 but I went back to replay level 6 which is the most emotive level, so far. I also created a wallpaper for my Air from the ending of that level.
