Just the different stats that they bring to the table. You can check em out on the stats page. They also have different special moves or whatever it is when your diamond thingy gets full. I don't know if the extra monsters that you buy start at level 1 or at the same level that your main monster is at though.
Just bought another monster and it looks like you start at level 1, but strength is same as your original monster (and city). Don't see any other benefit yet, maybe there isn't anything else
There is a benefit to having a new monster to level because some things like your City/Monster's strength increases at certain milestones.
Jumped into the store to support the game because I love PikPok. Saw the cost of diamonds. Left the store and haven't gone back. Waaaaaaaaaaay too expensive, guys.
Actually I find it a little offensive and not funny at all.. Maybe being a foreigner living in Japan has an effect on me. I hate it when I get mocked here for my accent even before Ive opened my mouth; because all foreigners sound funny right? So I don't like it the other way round, on principle I guess..
This is a fun game & worth playing. I do think pricing needs to change. I don't see paying for "cards" at the same price as other card games out now. Having said that....my only real issue is the energy. Energy meters ruin games. I know why it's there & why devs do it, but it sucks. I really want to like & play this game. It is fun & hilarious. I would play just to keep hearing the victory song!!! The PC comments in this forum make me hope this game makes millions, but the F2P stuff doesn't fit in this game. I don't see where I would spend money & really benefit, no purchase like a doubler of some kind. I don't buy into the "give money to the devs" argument. If they make a free game that is up to them. I don't like to pay money for something & still be hindered. No energy would help. This is a cool game. Give it a shot!!!
Last complaint: the attack system needs to change. You can only lose population when you don't play since you don't win population even if you win. That means that if you don't play for some days, you will now be at the bottom of the rankings. I mean, I only slept and my population halved and went from 200 to 2000. That makes it weird for the tournament and makes me only want to play some hours before the tournament.
One could argue that this game pays satirical homage to old Japanese movies. Those old movies were giant monsters attacking cities. They were sent to American viewers with horrible translation & we loved them. That is exactly what this game is.
I am going to sink a LOAD of money into this... ...but only when pricing is at least reasonable for what I'm getting. I'm not sure I've ever seen a game quite as greedy as this one is, which is most likely going to be its downfall. Shame.
But - your city gains experience through battle. Sliding down the rankings may be bad for your overall standing during the week but it's the only way to level up your city and gain true defensive power outside of buying cards (plus experience for your monsters, tokens you can use to buy cards to either put in your deck or feed your monsters for experience, etc.). In that way I think it keeps the tournament interesting throughout the week. I do see your point that it really starts mattering at the end of the tournament, but that's no reason to not play at all until the final day.
I know I'm in the minority here but Monsters Ate My Metropolis and Card Wars Adventure Time are the only 2 card battle games I can get into. I absolutely love them both despite their freemium antics. I don't know, maybe I just don't like the fantasy themes all the other games offer. Regardless, I'm having a ton of fun with this one. Although I agree with others here and wish there was an easier way to get anything but bronze cards.
Handy tips: There is absolutely no reason not to stoct up 2000 gold for 5 cards w/ a guaranteed silver. Prioritize getting 12000 gold to grab all the monsters. Each monster increases your energy cap and decreases the energy timer.
Speaking of which, just pulled 3 silvers out of the 2,000 pack. So the rest of the cards can spawn a silver outside of the one guaranteed silver.
This discussion really turns me off to not only the genre, but also some "enthusiasts" that love it. I've never heard of their first app, but I'm now interested thanks to people saying this can't be as good as that. Props for the developers for at least caring about an honest complaint about ads not being removed and addressing the consumer. Again I wouldn't have downloaded it without the insight of connoisseurs saying that a "timing based bonus AP" gameplay element that sounds like Deep Dungeons, one of the best rogue lites ever....just an opinion...could actually care about cards. Hope I can buy a card if I like it just to support real people. Go hearthstone #
Indeed. Thank god for Hearthstone. It's the digital card game that puts all others to shame. I wanted so badly to like MAMM. But the gameplay is seriously lacking. The whole thing is just a tedious grind. And why aren't the "cards" shaped like playing cards? They look more like Scrabble tiles with crappy art on them. There are things about the game that I like. The character art and animations are great. The music and the sounds are super cool. I like the whole vibe of the Monsters Ate My... Series. But that's not enough to save the game. There's no option screen. No way to mute the music. The cards are boring and the game is very stingy with them. My son just started his own Hearthstone account. It reminded me of how well Blizzard brings new players in and keeps them coming back for more. I should give this game two stars, but I'm going to take one away for being such a huge disappointment.
Agree 100%. I will admit I am a novice to combat card games, but playing this game offer little but frustration. Earning coins is a slow and tedious grind. The cost to buy cards is insanely expensive and the whole game seems so out of balance with foes at your level or much lower having cards 3 times as powerful as you. I really hope they fix this game because it does have potential, but at this point, practically unplayable.
There is an options screen. Go into Messages (the envelope at the top left), and click on the gear. You can turn off the music or sound effects here. As for card/powers - sometimes it's the luck of the draw, but unless you're facing enemies with a lot of diamond cards (maybe like the top 100 cities) it shouldn't be that difficult to win fairly often and move up the ladder. Especially if you're playing cards with an elemental advantage over your opponent - you cut their attack in half while doubling your own, so even with "underpowered" cards you can launch a pretty effective offensive against a powerful city. Someone earlier in the thread had a strategy around not spending you tokens on card packs and instead spending them on unlocking the other monsters. In general that's a good strategy especially for the first week or so.
This game has a redicilous pay model behind it. 10 cards for 2500 diamonds??? I have to spend £15.98 to get 10 cards? That's a complete con in my eyes. Sorry but that amount of money would get me lots of packs in hearthstone which quite frankly is a much superior game. Hell this game hasn't even got a single review on the UK store. Message to the developers. With your current price model, your game will not last long. Good luck though.
