Yeah, I'm sure Pete just messed up the pricing in the NZ info...and perhaps Pocket Gamer went by this thread when they posted it would be $3.99. Nah...it's $4.99 both on Android and iOS...and very worth it.
The controls definitely take a little used to, but I actually think they work well. Direct controls (e.g. a v-stick and action button) wouldn't let you have multiple characters moving at once, for instance. Anyone complaining that this is "just a sokaban game", I thought the same after the first couple of levels, but you really should play a bit further. There are lots of different enemies to encounter and companions with unique talents which unlock through the game.
While the game looks great, I am hesitant because the controls look suspect. I am holding out waiting for a few more impressions and reviews. There are at least a few other excellent new releases this week that are keeping me busy.
I just caved in and purchased this as for some reason I do like the looks and sounds of it and I've been good and not really purchased anything on the App Store for a month or two I think....been getting by on free games as I usually spend too much and never play the games. Hopefully this won't be one of them!
Do report back your impressions.Would like to read a few more imps before I hit the buy button. So far the few comments on the controls are holding me back.
A strange schism between the TA review and the generally mixed comments in this thread. I still have absolutely no idea what kind of game it is even, and without some rave reviews to be had from 'the people' the price tag is a little steep to just jump onboard.
I'll leave a better review once I get more time with the game, firstly the graphics are gorgeous the game really does look great. Controls which I keep seeing people mention are absolutely fine they so far work very well for me and is much easier to just draw where you want to go rather than hold a joystick and slowly walk there. The only thing is remembering that you need to draw, I keep doing tasks like moving boxes and forgetting for a second it need to draw the line where I want to go. I can see how others mean that it is a great control system for when you have multiple characters to control. Finally gameplay I can't say much as I'm not far in, there's a town you start in with different people you can speak to and move about town. You go into a world map and I to a section there which has multiple levels in it which are puzzles that you use yor character or characters to complete the puzzle, you can get 3 stars on each with different requirements for them. Overall I have really high hopes for it and feeling optimistic. Interested to see how the story plays out and how it does between puzzles, wondering if there are more towns ect as it seems you'll go back and fourth between places during the story. Kind of has a Pokemon feel to me in the town aspect of the game.
Absolutely deserved 5 star review. This game is a premium gem. Controls have been absolutely fine for me?! But I am playing on iPad Air. Will try on iPhone later and see what it's like there. Go buy this now
Heaps. And ages. Some of the levels are set up in a way that you have to come back to them later in the game to get 3 stars on, so even if you rush through the levels, you still have a reason to come back. It's a bit Zelda-esque in that regard, plus there's reasons to revisit the main town every so often. I'm a couple of hours in and I've only just started on zone 2.
Okay, played iT on my iPad and THE controls are okay. When i played this game on my iPhone inwas not to thriller about the controls. To me it seems that the controls where implemented with à big screen in mind.
Can someone explain if it is always possible to score ALL 3 stars in a SINGLE try for each level? Or are these levels in which there are COMPETING goals so that you MUST replay a level to score the remaining star(s), like Hitman Go?
You don't have to get all 3 stars in a single run and, in fact, on some later levels it's not even possible. You can get a "Collect all treasure" and a "Complete level in 35 seconds" star on a level. You can complete the level, but chances are you won't be able to pick up all the coins within the same time frame. Returning to a completed level will not restore collected treasures or coins, so there's no grinding.
Echoseven, thanks for the explanation. When you say that you won't be able to pick up all of the coins within the same time frame, is it because the levels are designed in such a way that the speedrun achievement is just INCOMPATIBLE with the coin collection achievement because the detour you need to take to the coins is just too long?
I agree with the post a I've also it's a great game just play it. Edit: Honestly the more I play the more I like it with the story, the gameplay, the controls are great for how the puzzles work and the nice little touches in the game.
Su suprised how silent it is here....glad I didn't miss out anyway. Keep finding myself going back for more cake : )
