I loved SNES game like Contra, Double Dragon, Final Fight, 1942.. actually any game with 2P so I can play with a friend. For our first game, I wanted to create a game that best friends would love playing together. Monster Medic is an area shooter similar to Geometry Wars, where you need to survive enemy waves in order to beat a level. The twist is that 2 players control the same ship. We designed Monster Medic with game mechanics to promote communication and teamwork. There are ship upgrades that adds bonuses if both players drive or shoots in the same direction. The mini-cannon weapon require both players to hold down their sights for two seconds to determine the target area and lay down a barrage of bullets. Our inspiration for enemy design and generation came from Left4Dead. Our goal was to try to provide peaks and valley of excitement. We did this by adding an AI director to manage enemy spawn generation. We also played around with different types of controls and observed that players had the most fun with our current touch controls (instead of virtual joysticks). We hope that Monster Medic can bring friends and family closer together through gaming!
