I doubt I'm the only one, but I found the introduction impenetrable and couldn't really complete or do anything at all. The game demands an awful lot of bland reading and negotiating some very dated menus. It was never clear to me what to do or where to go. Be prepared for a steep learning curve and consider buying a controller - I found the controls infuriating. I will try again in a few months. So boring.....
I found the exact opposite! I've spent hours in the tutorial lesson and have enjoyed every second of it. The trainer is a joker and my mind is just getting constantly blown at how deep this game is. The learning curve hasn't been as bad as I was expecting, the game seems super deep but it tells you everything you need to know in minute detail as long as you are ready to invest the time.
Indeed. Judging by the reviews, I'm sure I'm in the minority and that most will enjoy the game. Frankly though, I'm not going to play any game with an hours-long tutorial unless it has other features that interest me at once. I did some meat quest, then got dumped in some other 20 minute quest without goals or direction, wandered around picking flowers and then uninstalled. Not for me. For a game that requires so much reading, I think more attention should have been paid to the prose. Ugh. Wish I had that money, as there are some other games that look like they may be worth a try.
Here you go! Low Rank Congalala with a GS, with equips attainable when you have access to Congalala. Hope to see more GS users from the TA crowd. Hoping this might give you that push to give the slow but powerful GS a chance!
The game is designed to be deep and isn't a brainless hack and slash. If you bought the game thinking it was an action rpg then you wasted your money.
Ughh that Monoblos right now (on Elder) is the most annoying wyvern I've ever fought. It has the most annoying ability in the game.. burrow. That guy is so cheap as well, he stuns then charges. Multiple times I've entered a map and he immediately charges toward me and rips out half of my life, without me even having a chance. Often I can't even dodge his burrow even if I'm running. If it's behind me I can't tell where he is. And I failed. I hate failing with only 5-10 minutes left. That's probably the most annoying thing. If I died 30 minutes in I'd be okay but with them about to die, and me using up all my time, it's painful. Especially when I died to random enemies (non-boss) hitting me after the boss roars. Ughh... maybe I need a break. And to make matters worse, I'm completely broke. I can't even afford to fight him again. I don't have money left.
I was expecting a more traditional RPG experience, to be sure. I suspect I have indeed wasted my money, but I will try again in a few months- too expensive not to!
It certainly struck me so. I spent a decade in Japan and cut my teeth on text-heavy series like FF, DQ, Star Ocean, Suikoden etc. I don't mind slow-starting games, but this one paralyzed me.
There's really not that much text at all, and what there is sets the atmosphere and feeling of the game which is nice imo.
Different strokes for different folks I guess. I just don't think this series matches my gaming sensibilities, but I admit, much of my frustration stems from the controls and menus, which I think would be much easier to navigate with a controller.
What armor should I get? I use dual swords. Currently I'm having trouble with the cephalos (sand shark boss), so I'm thinking of upgrading from my chain armor set to a gendrome set. I don't know which set is the best though, so suggestions would be appreciated.
For whatever it's worth, Popa, a lot of people are turned off initially by MH. It took me three attempts at three different MH games before it "clicked" for me. But once it does, wow, there's nothing else quite like it.
I use rations to make my stamina bar get that long, but what makes your health bar get to be that long?
You can't go wrong with any set if you still have the first one. I started with the battle set you can buy from the Felyne. About the Cephadrome, the only thing I can tell you is get better stamina at the start of the game by eating some rations, drink the cold thing so that your health doesn't decrease, grab the sonic bombs from the blue box, use them on the Cephadrome, enter demon mode and punish him. The problem is that once you run out of sonic bombs, you can't do much apart from waiting until he goes back to the surface. It was this sucker the one who made me RQ the game on the PSP
I completely agree. I've never had a game go into so much detail and allow me to test all of the styles of weapons before I actually finished the training tutorial. But if someone can't enjoy the learning, reading, and repetitive quests of the tutorial, they might not be cut out to play further into the game.
