Agree! iCloud save, it must have. I want to play on my iphone when I'm away then continue on an ipad at home.^^
Dang! I was just in Alaska 3 weeks ago too. I am only just starting training, but so far the controls are solid, and the graphics look great on my ipad mini retina.
Lol, with this version, I finally got into the hunting horn and damn, if the timing is right, it totally smashes monsters into the ground. But the LS ia still my weapon of choice, along with a decent bow. I quickly played through the tutorial missions to stock up a bit on money without much effort. This game already sucked me in again.
What's with the hype? I've never played these kind of games before. Is it all hype or is their substance behind this game? Is it worth a purchase for someone who never played this on psp.
Get the game! I can say with conviction that the hype is justified. There's more substance behind the hype than you realise!
I feel like the touch controls are great, what you expect in other words. Definitely on the more intuitive and logical side rather than some wonky gestures and what not.
I think the fact that I could pick this up on my iPhone, equip starter gear, and go straight to guild hunts and succeed speaks volumes. The controls are really good, better than most iOS games. They're also better than they were on the PSP, where you have to control both movement and camera with the left hand. On iOS you also get MH3U's lock-on feature as a bonus. I particularly like the sliding button mechanics. For actions that require two or three buttons at the same time on other platforms, they've added this mechanic where you slide a related button in a specific direction. E.g. while you're holding down sprint to run, you can slide it forward to roll, instead of pressing the roll button. Attacks work like this too. The only downside is that virtual analog sticks without haptic feedback do make it harder to position yourself correctly, but I've been playing for a couple hours by now and it's not a big deal. Certainly no worse than other games on iOS. This is my opinion as someone who's played more than one Monster Hunter game though. If you're new to the series, what trips most people up who come from normal action RPGs or something like that is that you commit to your actions, and can't cancel most animations. So you'd still have to get used to that.
I remember reading, a few pages back, that while you're playing with the ipad you can use the iphone to chat. I downloaded lobi, but how do I get to the group chat of the gathering hall? Impressions after a few hours of play (new to monster hunter): this port is as good as it gets, nice graphics and smooth framerate, the touch controls work very well, even if the transition from walking to running is a bit annoying while you're in the village. I've played both on my own and with random people, multiplayer definitely adds fun to the experience. My only gripe with the game right now, is the lack of iCloud support.
Varo may have a point regarding Bulldrome, but those who arent familiar with the game yet will find bulldrome less forgiving to those who get greedy with attacks.
Going through the tutorial quests and I'm mostly ok with the touch controls, although the shield's been hard to use cause the swipes sometimes don't register, causing you to drop your guard instead of attacking. A controller would be better, but I'm on a 4S. So yeah, I expect to suck more than I would if I had a physical gamepad, but hey, I have monster hunter in my pocket, which is pretty sweet.
Yeah, the Bulldrome needs some care and tactics. But the Giandrome is also very easy, even without traps or bombs. All you need to do is stay out of range of his melee attacks. Sooner or later, the Giandrome will charge his jump - if you always stay a couple of meters away from him. As soon as he's targetted you and charged, he jumps. Now quicky run a few steps in the direction he was standing and turn around while moving. If things go well, he lands directly in front of you (where you were standing before) and you'll have a nice view on his back. Unleash a little combo while he's turning and quickly run away. Repeat that a few times and he bites the dust.
Against Bulldrome all you need to do is wait until he charges at you, avoid him and run towards him, going to one of his sides. Start attacking and then he'll try to charge at you again, but he'll fail. Rinse and repeat. Of course it works better with fast weapons like s&s and duals. Sometimes he'll also shake a bit and try to attack you while turning around, but it starts REALLY slow, and gives you enough time to run away. I find it way easier than Giadrome by far. It only takes some time.
Started a new save file, as in a fresh new save file. Just defeated Giadrome so far. Will test out connectivity. I hope my original save file being one from the JP version isnt the one preventing me from joining most multiplayer rooms. Unlikely that the save file affects it, but im willing to try anything to improve multiplayer connectivity.
Could someone please answer couple of questions about this game (I'm still playing basic tutorials with sword and shield and this is my first MH game): 1. How do you turn on lock-on camera? Can it be done on regular monsters or only on special ones? 2. How do you make a well done steak in the tutorial? I either burn the meat or make it rare. Is there an easier way? Seems like the time window for button press is like 0.5 seconds.
Anyone got tips for a newbie? Since this thread is going by so quick, I think a PM would better help me. Thanks!
