    Overrated...???...

I'm finding it difficult to get my head around all the hype regarding this game...I find it average at best...clunky controls, average graphics, so-so gameplay...

Am I missing something...?...Finding it almost impossible to get into this game...and it's £11!

    Thoughts...?...

    Many thanks.

To be honest it's really not for everyone. As far as gameplay is concerned though, this game is not so-so, and considered as one of the most in-depth games in terms of game mechanics. And the average graphics are a result of this being a port of a PSP game, and they actually improved the assets on the mobile version.

It has been determined, on each and every iteration of Monster Hunter, that the game is of the love-it-or-loathe-it variety.

I'll try to find some of my posts about the game in this thread, maybe you could find some answers there regarding MHFU iOS.

    Cheers!

Glad I could help! Game is a lot of fun online and it's pointless if you can't stay online or find rooms. Enjoy!

    GL is my favorite weapon!
You could watch some of my videos at YouTube from my PSP days.
Maybe they help you a bit. If you have questions I will try to answer them!

Many thanks, friend! These vids are a huge help. You make it look so easy :D . I'm assuming that one would be able to apply these skills/techniques to Lance as well as GL.

My Lance skills aren't that good but I think GL is more flexible than the Lance.
The forward charge of the GL is so amazing when you want to close short distances.
Lances have triple evades which are nice too but the overall mobility isn't that great IMO.
For me both weapons have huge differences!

To add to Nightmare's points, here are some more tips that could help get good with Lances and Gunlances.

Lances are FANTASTIC with Evade+2. The ability to hop in between any of the lance strikes/stabs (charging isnt a strike ;)) and that you can chain up to 3 hops is absurd with Evade+2.

Gunlances benefit more from Guard+1/+2 skills. The "uppercut" and diagonal strikes automatically transition into the guarding stance made this skill pretty useful for the Gunlance user.

In MHFU specifically, Lances are generally faster at dishing out damage than Gunlances. But as Nightmare mentioned, Gunlances have more flexibility than Lance's somewhat single-minded strategy.

Lances usually tend to use hops in between strikes to reposition, and that's it. In most cases, the Lance charge is pretty useless too since you mostly want to stick close to the monster right outside their radius, and when monsters are far away you are better off sheathing the weapon and dashing as it's safer.

Gunlances have quite a few tricks up its sleeve, and each one can be improved if you want to focus on them. You can take the Shelling strategy which are more effective on certain monsters (fatalis trio come to mind), or do the stab-slash route which is the more standard way. Gunlances charging strike are a godsend. Perfect for repositioning, or just closing in gaps with a few moments of free hits. The uppercuts will also be bread and butter. This can string into diagonal stabs (perfect for hitting certain monster weaknesses) that can transition into a guarding/blocking stance. It's also good to take note that the uppercut and diagonal strikes dont move you in place in any way which provide good options in positioning when other attacks move you a bit forward.

Also, having a cannon with a blade attached may be the coolest thing ever. I personally do prefer Lances over Gunlances, but that doesnt mean one is better than the other as that is more preference considering the vast differences in each weapon classes' playstyles.

Thanks EP and Nightmare. You have both helped me out a ton. I think I'll use Lance for now, then I'll move on to Gunlance after. I also noticed from a brief research session that Lances do piercing damage while the melee attacks from Gunlances do cutting damage, interesting. But I do agree that GLs are really cool. Wyvern's Fire is probably one of the most badass things I've ever seen in a game, period.

    Guess what? Classified.
    Classified.
It's never too late. The game is fun to play offline too just so you know, so the connectivity issues doesn't make it unplayable.
Also this game veeery rarely has a sale. In fact I only remember there being one sale in its lifetime, and I've been in this thread from they start.
I'd recommend it right now, personally.

    ^Agreed.

If you check my repost quote above, i think it's proof enough to warrant the price for the quality and amount of content you get from it for a mobile game.

It's worth more than its price and honestly speaking, the time this will go on sale could be anytime in the future or never. Probably only been on sale once or so.

I thought about getting that as well but I'm still only about 50 hours into MH4U so I have plenty of time to have to put into that before I get to Generations.
