Has anyone played this on psp or Vita which lets you use dual sticks? If so, would you mind making a comparison? I'd like this on iOS but i'm not sure about touch controls
I once played it emulated on PC with customized controls to suit an Xbox controller. While I will forever hold that as the best way to play this game, the iOS version is second best and is still an improvement over the original control scheme. Doubly so if you're used to touchscreen gaming.
Touch controls are fantastic in this game. It's almost the same as the dual stick controls on the playstation 2's Monster Hunter 2 with the addition of the newer attacks. The PSP and Vita makes use of the buttons for the attacks which have been swapped out for directional swipes on the buttons on iOS. Capcom did a fantastic job translating MHFU's massive movelists for each weapon class into a few buttons by making the buttons pseudo-sticks as well. On top of that, it supports MFi controllers so if you have that, it's still the best option.
TA frontpage did bump the review... At least i thnk it's just an updated review to bump it up and give it exposure. EDIT: Yup just read the first part... It's the old review bumped.
Maybe for some reason you accidentally abandoned the quest? Coz that has the same animation sequence as running out of time iirc.
On the touch controls, my only gripe was the camera movement. Then i read somewhere that people actually claw grip their phones, putting their index finger -left or right- at the same time on the top of the screen to control the camera. Took me around 20 minutes to get used to it, and now i can't imagine playing differently Now i just have to decide which weapon i should invest in, between longsword and bow - at least until i learn to MH better
Longsword. To be honest, ranged weapons play MUCH nicer as support in MH games. Yes - you can find videos of someone taking on 2x Deviljho with a bow/bowgun, but those folks are SUPER skilled with the weapon. I'd go with a solid melee weapon, farm up mats for a stronger ranged weapon, and then practice on some easy hunts to learn the ins-and-outs of the weapon.
Just started to get into this. I didn't even play this when I had the chance even though I picked it up when it launched. I started the tutorial and my god, the AI of some of the creatures are horrible. Many of them were just randomly bumping into walls and they couldn't even detect I was even there. Some of the worst AI that I've seen in any AAA game by far. Is this normal?
Those are the stupid fauna of the game. You can get some materials from them, but only helpful in the first few hours of the game. As far as AI is concerned, they'll make you regret those words later on
Well.. you'll be singing a completely different tune once you fight the boss monsters. You're going to wish they were as dumb as bricks after you die dozens of times after hours and hours of hunting. Tigrex says hello! (However there is a blind monster and one that gets his horns stuck in the wall!) ============== I've let some MH old school players try out the touch controls and they can attest to how good they are. Many agree on this forum and outside of it that these controls can actually be better than any of the physical alternatives. It just works so smoothly. I have no issue with the camera after playing the game for a couple hours when I first began.
This version of MHFU has camera-lock. Nothing to worry about when it comes to "clawing" which was only really applicable to the PSP. I think my fingers have relatively bigger muscles than my biceps coz of that. LOL
What timing, to see this comment. I was just torturing over controllers and didn't even realize there was a clip solution for the Nimbus via the Nyko. That's what I've ordered. Thanks! I was leaning toward the Gamevice but read too many comments about the buttons being far from optimal on the iPhone version. Far from optimal for a hundred bucks? No thanks. Going to finally check out this game too!
On the fence. I'm loving the comments. Looks and sounds awesome, but I hesitate. I'm concerned the difficulty will make me stop playing. Is the combat frantic? I gravitate to turn based games because I don't enjoy frantic very often. Can you pause mid battle? Some of my favorite forum posters are very sold, so I'm inclined to go for it.
Yes it can be a steep, learning curve as you NEED to go training school, but only go for the sword and shield first, go in gently one step at a time. But trust me its worth its the experience you get from playing is unmatched on ios, im nearly a 100 hours in and nowhere near done ✌#️
Wow really? So that's local multiplayer through Bluetooth? And I thought this was online thru wifi only. Thanks for the info EP, will try it with my daughter when I get home.
I think you just get a money reduction from your reward you get when you kill the monster. That and you are transferred back to the starting area on the map, so you have to manually move to the area that the monster is in.
Dude, wait til you get to the real meat of the game. As mentioned earlier, the Tigrex, Blangonga, especially the Rajang (and it's super saiyan form). When you meet them, you'll wish their AI was stupid. Man I can't remember how many times I failed the Blangonga and the Khezu quest before. And the Rajang nearly made me rage quit and throw my phone against the wall lol
I'm a big Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy fan. I love JRPG, turn-based battles. But for some reason I picked this up when it was originally released. It looked amazing. It looked challenging. And it looked like fun creating new gear and tending a big farm. I've never regretted getting it. I'm 140+ hours in and I feel like I'm barely able to hang with most. But somehow I've gained Hunter ranks and gotten great gear. And a lot of that is thanks to hunting with some of the best on here. They've not only helped on tough hunts, they've taught me more patience and strategy. And I think that's why I fell in love with it. Community. You're not trying to kill your friends or blow up someone's built-up city to raid it for junk. You suit up and hunt along side other hunters, helping each other, teaching each other, learning when to rush in and when to hang back, and loving every second that you help someone that's a lower rank than you. This game gives me a sense of comradery that no other game has ever given me.
