Ukanlos is the snow swimmer white akantor.. really annoying.. anyways, I hope the best of luck for you fellow resident
Personally, I'm on iOS 8.4.1 and I haven't updated the app. And even though the App Store description says we need the latest version of the app to hunt online, I went online for quite a few quests last night with newbies and veterans alike and didn't have any problem. For any of us in the same boat, I wouldn't update the app until we're ready to update our iOS. If it ain't broke for us, no reason to change it, you know?
There's always time(even if a little) for the things we love. Life would be so much worse if it was not possible.
Think Infinity Blade boss battles, but more free-moving and overall more dynamic. You'll need timed evasions, and well placed dodge directions/positioning, you'll have to hit certain monster parts to achieve specific interactions and rewards, gather literally over a thousand equipment pieces and even more material types, even maintain a farm in the town. Highly skill-based battles, with smart monsters that use certain attacks only if you are at certain positions or distance, and monsters even flee to rest for some HP to heal when they are wounded enough. Other than hitting monsters with your preferred weapon class, you can trap them, bait them to eating poisoned meat or those laced with sleeping powders, you can bring barrel bombs and use those if you prefer, you can even throw down poop to discourage monsters to fighting you and force them to flee to other areas of the map (useful if you find yourself fighting 2 boss monsters in the same area), and you can hunt with 2 nyan warriors that you train or play with up to 3 other players online or through bluetooth to hunt monsters together. Each weapon class is very distinctive, and there are hammers, sword and shield, dual blades, great swords, longswords, bardic musical instrument-ish hammers (known as hunting horns), lances, gunlances, bows, and 2 types of bowguns. Tons of stuff to do outside of hunting. There are gathering quests, improving the farm, maintaining a kitchen, training quests, training some nyan helpers that you can take to battle or train to help in the kitchen, and even mini-games on each of them. Or you can just chill inside one of the quests's exotic locations and fantastic background areas while you cook food while taking screenshots. If you have seen the times clocked in by players in TA, they are usually in the hundred hours, and im specifically 495 hours in on the iOS version and clocked past 2500 hours on the PSP. That said, i would like to point out that the game has a steep learning curve. I mentioned highly skill-based combat, and that isnt a joke. You have to learn each monster's attack patterns and even their reactive behaviors. You'll need to know when to put up distance, and when to close in to strike. This is not a hack and slash game. There is no sense of "tanking" in the MH world. Even drinking a potion to heal up takes some monster knowledge and player skill to use. Attacking monsters with your weapon can dull your weapon, and you need to sharpen your weapon while in battle, and even that takes skill to do so. Games like Infinity Blade and Dark Souls have borrowed a lot of elements from monster hunter games, which says a lot. So yeah, this game is THAT GOOD and a must-have. It's easy to say it's one of the best things that happened to iOS devices. I even consider the series to be one of the best things that happened to gaming in general. I hope this tips you towards getting the game and playing online with us. Cheers!
Exact-Psience, thanks for the detailed info! I hit the purchase button already, even If I am unsure if I am up to the learninf curve at the moment. Sounds like an awesome game, for sure.
As someone returning to this gem that has to start over, someone should come up with a line chat group or something to try for the multiplayer. I remember multiplayer was very spotty before the collapse. Has anyone tried it?
What the??? My hunting skills are so rusty i died once hunting a plesioth with a lance and Evade+2. Need to get my mojo back!
I went on a random room last night in mere seconds, went on 4 quests, and never had one problem. I haven't tried creating a room or joining a created room yet, though.
As good as this game sounds, it was hard for me to get into it. I wish a switch could just turn on inside me and make me appreciate this game. Anyway, everyone's enthusiasm for this game is stirring up a bit of interest again. I think I'm going to give it another shot.
Has anyone else experienced a seemingly random glitch, where the quest fails due to running out of time barely a minute in?
The world ends with you easily my fav port on App Store! You are totally right I would then rate this one second followed closely by FF9 if I'm taking these three and ranking them. I say that as someone who loves final fantasy games more than any other series. XI for mobile is def tops among all the final fantasy games on App Store.
Yup!!!! I have some of the best gear the game has to offer and it don't mean peanuts when the skill isn't there
Bought (finally!), and it's amazing. Since it's been "offstore" for a year, maybe it should appear in the "new games of this week" section tomorrow
Took me around 8 hours to fully grasp it. To the point o addiction. But that's the problem... It weights a lot and getting the ball rolling is hard to do, but once it starts.... Good by time. And #%^* plesiosth. Only boss type I just flat out hate.
Start with Sword and Shield. It's maneuverable, has quick and easy combos, and allows you to use items while unsheathed/guarding (a VERY helpful trait later on). It also excels at status effects since status effects are determined on a per hit basis. But as many of us Mon Hun vets will tell you, don't judge the game by the first few hours. You're going to suck SO hard at first. It's not just you - you WILL get better if you take your time and stick with it. Also, remember that Mon Hun is a game of taking advantage of opportunities. Reckless play will lead to death every time. Learn how your enemy moves, attacks, reacts, etc. Once you can read your prey, you'll have a MUCH easier time taking him down. E: I need a MFi controller. Gamevice feels too expensive for what it is, but I'm wondering if it's actually the best purchase. Or should I grab the Nimbus or something and the Nyko clip?
Sword and Shields and Longswords are the easiest to get into. Out of these 2, the longswords deal more damage but they lack the ability to block attacks.
