Couldn't agree more, I used to think that having a full MHFU port on ios was the biggest +1 it had on Android but apple have really lost me now. Blocking emulators, closing the file system, consistently reducing the battery life with each new model. My next handset will be a Sony and I'll play monster hunter on PPSSPP.
I have ZERO friends who are gamers. Probably because I'm 37 and have 6 kids, and the ones old enough for video games are girls who look at me funny when I ask them to play. Is this an awesome game, solo?
Yes! Whoever's been waiting for this sale, it's time to pick it up. Let's get more people playing online!
It's fun to play any game with friends, but you don't NEED those chumps because the online is solid and thriving still. This game'll give you hundreds of hours of gameplay on solo and hundreds more on multiplayer. Buy it! The sale price is stupid cheap.
Dude, I could copy/paste your post verbatim, except I would have to change the number of kids from 6 to 2, haha. Yes, this is an awesome game to play solo. Just be warned that the learning curve for this game is a bit rough and you have to actually sit down and play for 30 minutes to an hour at a time in the beginning. Your hunt times will get much quicker as you progress and learn the monsters better, but in the beginning you'll be spending a good chunk of time per hunt. I know how things can get with just two kids, so I can only imagine six! That's why I wanted to make sure you know that this isn't a quick five-minutes-here-and-there kind of game. On the plus side, this is one of the most amazing games ever made. It's just got that steep learning curve, so it's been highly underrated here in the west because so many people quit playing it before they get good at it and miss out on all the awesomeness this game has to offer.
Meh, nowadays, I can't get into a game that requires that much commitment. Partly due to my app addiction. appshopper.com/user/Nonstickron I already own WAY more iphone games than I'd ever be able to finish. This game on sale is only $3 cheaper than the other one I'm eyeing for my next purchase...Transistor.
Well... IMO MHFU>Transistor. I'd recommend both easily, but MHFU is leagues ahead of Transistor in terms of content and gameplay mainly.
EP, You know I love Heroes and Castles, any Foursaken game... Is there similarities? Would I enjoy it if I like H&C2?
Does anyone know if this is different than the PSP version that's available for Vita? I have the Vita version but will double-dip if the graphics are better on iOS.
The only similarity is the behind-the-back third person view. H&C2 is more of a strategy game with rpg elements in it. MHFU is an all-bossfight (almost) action-rpg. Think Dark Souls boss fights, but with more dino-dragon age than a dark theme. Each of your attacks are tied to specific buttons and gestures, there are no magic (except plesioth the magical fish) in this game, equipping armor sets provide the passive skills, and each monster is... Take the mobility of the spider enemies in H&C2, give it 40 times the HP of a siege troll, give it 10 attacks it can choose from... Now imagine it's a dino-dragon. Also, each monster part has different stats like HP, flinch threshold, elemental weakness, etc. I think here's a good chance you'll like MHFU if you like H&C2, but they are really different games.
It has better controls from what I hear. I've never played the PSP version, but these are some of the best controls in an iOS game. I think it's the same other than that... And if there were any crazy costumes on the PSP, those didn't make it over to iOS.
The only things missing in MHFU iOS from the PSP version are the promotional DLC quests. The JUMP quests (jolly roger sets and weapons) and the metal gear sets. Some of the promotional t-shirt armors are also missing. Gameplay and visuals-wise this is the PSP enhanced.
Umm 37 year old here too, with kids. Was waiting for a sale to pull the trigger and oh my, what a SALE Looking forward to get some solo hours under my belt and hopefully there will be still a online community around for me to get into multiplayer games.
I'd say the level of satisfaction after killing bosses is what gets me the most. Remembering the first time beating that Khezu and realizing 'oh I can't spam the attack button' to soloing your first Rathalos, Rathian and killing that tigrex. Surviving by a hairs' breadth. Pulling off sick combos. Making the coolest armor. MHFU is pretty awesome.
There's a new group I'm a part of that will be starting and hopefully looking for some online hunting. I think it's time we resurrect http://mhios.chatango.com Also, since we're sharing, 35 here. And we're trying to have kids. Just us two and the kitten so far.
Wish they update the app tonadd file sharing so I can restore my savegame file. Or at least add iCloud saves
