If you want to match up with someone in particular it can be a bit hard, but if you just want to match up with anyone you'll be fine. Sometimes the game has trouble finding a room that exists, and makes you create a new one, but it's not a major problem.
So I got the game, did all the training missions, grabbed some dual blades, and failed my first two or three quests. I finished the gathering one and upgraded my weapon, but I have two questions: Where the hell do you get or make armor spheres? My armor blows obviously. And, Is it much easier starting out with something that has blocking? I ask because there has been an instance or two, the worst and most obvious being with the bigger hairy tusked thing starts ramming me over and over again, that I can't do anything at all to defend myself. Drink pots, dodge, run like batshit crazy. Is there just a learning curve or if I get every one of the smaller guys down its way easier etc? And oh! One last question... The hunting quests. So do I have to kill them? Or catch them? Either? Little vague. Loving it so far! I am really interested in the skills and magic-esque stuff later on. Thanks!
Armor spheres can be found on the farm by mining, or you can buy them with pokke points (highly unreecommended. You need those points to uograde the farm). Your top prority is to not get hit. If you pull off a combo on a monster and then get rammed, you've just lost your advantage because they have a lot more health than you do, and now you have to drink a pot. You never HAVE to capture a monster, but doing so will count as a 'kill'. Capturing the monster you have to kill will give you better chances are better rewards, but you can't carve. I wouldn't worry about capturing until you can the monster confidently. I recommend you to kill any small monsters in the same area as the boss monster, as they will push you down and then you'll get ROFLSTOMPed. Also, the Battle armor set can be easily bought from the cat, and gives good skills for a rookie hunter. If you don't understand the difference between a blademaster and a gunner, or area confused with the skill points, just ask because it's a bit complicated.
Armor isnt as important in this game. You have to learn to avoid getting hit. Later on the enemies will one or 2 hit kill you. That said, armor spheres can be received from the farm or from boss monsters. Blocking can save you from a few hits, but weapons that have block are pretty slow except for the SnS, which has a lower DPS. Pretty much up to playstyle. If you are getting hit by bullfangos and bulldrome, you're doing it wrong In MH, you really have to move more and attack less. The learning curve is quite steep because the game is everything opposite the usual action RPGs. First task is to always learn how to not take damage EVER without attacking. Get yourself familiar with the enemy attack patterns. Look for their attacks that have low recovery time, coz that will be your window for attacking. Either capture or kill will work, except for unlocks where you need to kill monsters, but those are for the really late game about 100-200 hours in, depending on how fast you get through to the last monster types. I see you've chosen the Dual blades. These is a moderate to high damage class that sacrifices blocking for more offensive power through the demonize mode. Duals benefit so much from elemental damage, because elemental damage deal fixed damage per hit, and the duals are the fastest in terms of number of hits per any given time. This means you need to collect different element weapons for specific boss hunts. Duals are also some of the most punishing to those who get greedy with attacks. If you get greedy and keep attacking, the animations will lock you on the spot you are standing and make you open to get hit. One of the dual's safest single hit attack is spin slash>dodge roll. Just keep in mind your priority is not to get hit as much as possible. Welcome to the world of MH! Have fun, and keep hunting!
Is there iCloud saving? If not, which do you recommend me playing on: an iPhone 5s that I have access to all the time (like lunch breaks, waiting for meetings etc.) or an iPad Air that I only have access to in the evenings?
It plays well on my 4S, but i like the bigger ipad air screen to play this in better. Each main hunt will take around 20 to 30 minutes for new players, so i suggest putting that into consideration. You might not have enough hunting time if you're only sneaking some gametime. There is an option to transfer save files using iFunbox or any similar programs. It can be a hassle if you need to transfer stuff all the time though.
Thank you guys so much for the responses!!! They were all helpful! I need to keep an eye out for those elemental weapons; and the reason I want to upgrade my armor more for secondary stats an skills, not defense. Thanks again! Off to hunt
In this game if you have a choice to make between getting hit, and making an attack, forget the attack every time. It is imperative you do not take damage. Without getting too poetic, a fight with any monster is like a dance. You have to learn to be graceful, weave in and out, strike and retreat, strike and retreat. It is VERY satisfying when you get stuck on a monster and then finally conquer it.
This game has the same storyline as spiderman Peter Parker gets bit by a spider and becomes spiderman. In this game you get blasted off a cliff, then all of a sudden you are invincible to falling from heights.
Really enjoyed this game. Didn't get very far in it but I liked it enough to go out and get a new 3DS and MH4U. All I can say is WOW!!
I heard a newer MH game is coming to iOS? Is it worth it to get MHFU or better to just wait for the next one? I've never played any of them before so I'm a complete newbie
Unless it's another port, MHFU will be superior. The only MH titles i've heard of other than this that could be coming for iOS are mobile iterations. Basically watered down versions of the original series.
Very cool. I will be hovering over the buy button tonight I think. Luckily the charges won't show on the credit card until the end of the month. Have a while before the wife gets cranky
Well I had already been thinking about getting the 3DS. I kind of feel like a lot of games these days try too hard to go for an "adult" theme and they miss out on the fun part. Nintendo is all about the fun. They make some of the most memorable games I've ever played. Got MH4U and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds as my first games. Sorry for going off topic.
I've been enjoying the game a lot, and it makes me sad that I never picked up mh3 on the wii back in the day. It was in my hands many times but I never pulled the trigger.
