Longsword used to be my jam, only thing I ever used other than the occasional hammer. The Switch Axe changed that. Wish it was in this game, makes it tough to go back and play this without it
I completely disagree. You're missing the point. There is no one greatest weapon. They all have strengths and weaknesses. You're probably not favorable to melee weapons so you're better at ranged. Some goes for others. I've tried the ranged weapons and for me they're way harder to use because you have stay still to aim at the best spots and when monsters charge you have to keep running, and then aim again. You also have to deal with a bunch of different ammo types. With a melee weapon I can roll out of the way and attack with ease. I don't need to run all the way around a boss to hit his tail or his head on the other side, which you have to do with a bow. I also don't need to reload my weapon. And I think melee is more efficient than a bow gun but it's a personal preference. I can output much more damage, combo, roll, do it again, than have to aim, fire a salvo of shots, run away, reload, then do it again.
Best reason why this game has multiplayer. To quickly defeat higher monster, a combination of weapons work very effectively. Each weapon has their purpose in multiplayer allowing great success as long as the player knows their weapon.
You don't have to reload a bow if it has no coating. If it has coating you only have to reload like once every 10 shots. This is why I said I prefer bow over crossbow. Yes I'd rather use a longsword than a crossbow simply because you have to reload like every 3 shots with crossbow. There's no iFrame when rolling so you gotta roll more than once to dodge most boss moves, or roll + run away. If there's iFrame then you can simply roll to evade moves then immediately get back to attacking from a different angle. Maybe I'm missing something here but I just found using the bow at a distance to be much safer and faster without needing to roll every other second.
Im still struggling with LS. Its just so slow! 1 on 1 vs a boss, is not too too bad (i can kill giadrome no problem now) but with groups of monsters I struggle to not get knocked down over and over and they hit pretty damn hard.
Roll! It takes practice. Use the back swipe. That's the most important move of the LS. I always end my combos with it. It's the action when you pull back to attack. I think it's taking time for you to adjust since the duals are the fastest weapons in the game. They only get slower from the LS lol. I'm still free right now if you're free. We can go a couple rounds.
There are invincibility frames on rolls. The evade+ armor skill extends this up to about 1/3 Of a second.
Nope. Bows are generally weaker therefore have slower kill times compared to the top melee classes, but it is correct that it is mostly easier to bow than to melee. Heavy Bowguns are really strong, but is a lot harder to use coz of the hampered mobility. It's still the best Diablos farming weapon.
So here is where I am currently at: Controls I find a bit janky, which might be why in part I am finding all weapons hard. However having said that I am learning. Giadrome which was a struggle is now a piece of cake, velocidrome and bulldrome are no problem. Then came kut ku...... I remembered him being a bit of a challenge from back in the day.. But surprisingly he is way easier than is remember. ... I only faced him once, and I lost.. BUT the reason I lost was A) weapon not sharp enough and B) I only had 2 paintballs, and I missed, so I timed out wandering the map trying to find the bastard. I will try him again tomorrow armed with more paintballs, and an upgraded weapon that has green sharpness this time, and I have no doubt that giant chicken is toast. =)
Anyone want to play together? Either helping to raise Hr or just fooling around together... I'm available in about 3 hours...
I bought this at Christmas when my wife got me the Stratus XL pad as a gift and finally sat down to a game yesterday. When I was 16 I soaked this level of detail up ... at 36, I am utterly bemused. This is one big lot of game.
You'll pick it up. It's generally those things which require the biggest early investment which give you the longest-lasting pay-off. Being really, truly entertained takes work, esè!
That stupid motherlover, I figure he had to be somewhat close to death, but he ran away and the paintball wore off (I didnt realize they didnt last the whole hunt) so now I have to find that ****er again and I had to leave for work so its at home paused. Im going to murderize that Kut Ku next time I find it
Usually monsters only have 1-3 spots they run to. So you can memorize them and check those spots. And if you let the monster asleep, the first hit you do will do triple damage. Be careful they do recover health while sleep, but I never seen it matter. Also yes there is strategies of putting monsters to sleep, place two large explosive barrel+, and then letting both barrels do 3x damage.
I had a difficult time trying to adjust to the touch screen controls. Ended up picking up a New 3DS XL and MH4U to satisfy my MH addiction. Certainly don't regret the purchase. Wasn't a huge fan of MH3U due to the underwater battles so I'm glad to see they are gone. And the mounting monster system works really well in MH4.
No problem with Kut Ku now I can take him down with maybe 4-5 potions tops. I switched from DS to GS. Just upgraded to a Ravager, and have about half my kut ku armor set. Holy hell I love this game
GS to the face really misses up kut ku's day I pretty much sword to the face ---> roll away ---> sheath weapon ---> reposition myself ---> repeat. Its much slower yeah, but Im okay with it. Im liking it way better than long sword actually.
