Top 3 would be Hammers, GS and LS. Heavy Bowguns should belong in there too, but im not usually comparing ranged and melee classes. Hunting Horns probably belong to the weakest classes in terms of damage, but is better than SnS. Still, HH is pretty fun to use and can still hold its own when only doing solo.
Tried it.. Omg I'm so bad with bow. 1 on 1 I can barely kill anything. 2 on 1 and I'm dead meat in like 10 seconds. I can barely face the direction I am trying to.
Bows are on average. They excel on certain monsters like Rajang, the Fatalis trio, and plesioth, so for those monsters alone, learning to bow can actually be very useful.
Well finally made it through the training missions and have tried 3 lvl 1-1 star missions. Beat the first two and got dominated by a giant boar looking thing on the third. Was still fun even though I lost. First mission I used the ole one hander and shield. Then I used the light bowgun. Fun stuff
Sword and shield is pretty weak damage and has very short range. It can be really good if you are exploiting game mechanics. Like spamming items and dealing elemental damage/paralyzing damage. But at the beginning of the game it is unlikely you are doing that. Bow can be really good, but it is difficult to use correctly. The arrow does more or less damage based on how far the monster is away from you. So you need to find the sweet spot all the time. They are still a little weak then, but do have the ability to elemental damage and status effects.
Im trying the very first quest (Giadrome or something) and getting owned by him. I have not too much trouble with him if I stay back, but once im close enough to attack (I was trying hammer) it was too slow. he would hit me twice for every time I actually connected with him. Maybe I would be better off trying a faster weapon?
Want faster weapons use duals and remember to dodge and to use demon dance if not use long sword and do the cut jump back attack to get the spirit bar full and unleash oblivion with the quick attack ^^
I did too until I learned the Hunting Horn. After getting that down, a master LS hunter taught me the ways of that one and I am still working on it. I've learned a lot about weapon usage from playing with others and watching them go to work. There's probably a few hunters that think I was pretty lazy for a few rounds there!
That is a good idea go online and watch, i mastered the long sword first than anything then the bow, the duals, the huntin horn and the hammer, im trying to master the gs and the hbg( heavy bow gun ) since i got thw ultimate lao shan canon and the dragon slayer gs
That is what I did when I first played. It went okay for a while, but then I switched to long sword and never looked back. I did manage to beat the first star missions with dual blade, maybe even the second star missions. Long sword is just so nice. More damage and the infinite combing. My favorite was to do two or three hits with the last hit being the jump back attack. Then you roll quickly after. That dodges most close range attacks.
Don't forget Khezu! Khezu with bow and appropriate ammo is peanuts, and saves you tons of trouble. While others try to avoid getting electrified or jumped on, you stand back and laugh.
O.k., but then: learn and train combos, combos, combos. Train like crazy, you'll eventually need it when you're standing in front of a Tigrex with 2 tiny daggers - but even more important, learn to move, dodge, roll. All your combos need to hit and you also have to avoid his AoE attacks. Unless you cut of his tail asap. What I am trying to say: certain monsters seems to ask for certain weapons. Sure, you can bring down every monster with all weapon classes, but you should have at least an option to use a secondary weapon against some monsters. I'd go for a LS or maybe a Hammer as second option.
I remember doing that! That was my first road block and I was about to rage quit MH. I laughed in his face when I stood on the ledge and shot down hell upon that hellspawn while making roasted peanuts.
I find bow (not bowgun) to be much easier than longsword/greatsword. I pretty much only use the bow now, and the only boss that I have trouble with is Tigrex, since it's just absurdly fast and a huge test of patience. I think I pretty much encountered all the bosses in the game now (excluding re-skins), and Tigrex is definitely the hardest. Diablos on the other hand is like a joke compared to Tigrex, I barely got hit. Dunno why these quests are side-by-side. Longsword/greatsword is super slow, even if I master the boss' attack patterns and manage to land a hit by predicting where it's gonna be in the next second, I can only hit it once or MAYBE twice before having to roll the heck out of there. I really don't see how this is remotely efficient, the entire fight takes way longer than if I use a ranged weapon. If the sword has a chance to stagger/stun the boss then maybe it'll be much more useful... right now I pretty much never use it, not even for minion quests.
