Try looking at some videos on how to exploit the monster's weakness.. As for the minions, they need to be killed before facing the boss, eventhough it's hard.. I've beaten all the quest except crimson and white fatalis solo
Some general tips. Let go of all your hack and slash instincts. Never initiate an attack without knowing what the monster is doing or will be doing next. Monsters dont die in 1 full combo. Fights dont last 1 minute. They can last up to 40 minutes, especially if you are new with the franchise. Use the first couple minutes of your fight just circling around the monster, while taking the time to familiarize his attack animations. When you know how he initiates his attacks, try getting closer without getting hit, and WITHOUT DRAWING YOUR WEAPON first. You're still at the familiarization stage, not in the hack and slash mode. If you are familiar with how long his attacks wind up before they execute, and with how long they recover after they attack, in addition to the turns they use to face your character, you should then be able to sneak one or two hits with your weapon before going out of the way to avoid the next attacks. That is the MH way. There is no getting OP items or levelling up. And there is no stupid IAP to revive you. It's all about knowing when to move in for a couple hits, and moving out safely.
I know the mechanics to soloing bosses. I'm a TERA veteran and that game is all about boss fights. I don't have a problem with dodging boss moves, it's the damn pesky minions that keep respawning and the fact that bosses two hit KO you that I find stupid. Since bosses take at least 50-100 hits from the slow as hell long sword and it dulls within 7-8 hits, am I expected to run to a different area past loading screen whenever I need to grind it? It's impossible to use ANY items when in the same area as the boss since 95% of the time it'll just bowl you over during the insanely slow item use animation.
Long sword isn't slow. Well, compared to greatsword it isn't. Long sword does get dull quicker than some weapons, but they are one of the best weapons in the game. Try to figure out weak points of the monster and focus your attacks there. Also, use paintballs to mark the bosses in case they move to a different area. I dont know why the item use animations are slow, but they're probably slow for a reason. Maybe someone else could explain why.
It's possible to use ANY items while fighting a boss in the same area, but you need to know when. What weapon class you using? Weapons dull faster when bouncing off some monster parts. Since you are pretty early in the game, buy the Battle Armor set from the Cat beside the armorsmith. The full set gives you a bit of damage boost, and also gives the Sharpening Skill Inc which makes you grind the weapon just once to sharpen it. The minions are annoying true.
I watched gaming bliss videos to keep learn the game. He really helps to learn the game. He doesn't go crazy on cheesy techniques, so you can copy him but with all the cheesy strategies if need be. This should be the playlist for his mhfu videos. http://youtu.be/V9edBEV8GfY?list=PLPPDWWxszilsdhBII5EifXnl8SowEPJ78 If that doesn't work then here is his whole YouTube page. https://m.youtube.com/user/MonsterHunterSketch
MH is all about timing. Ideally you shouldn't be getting hit at all, but that level skill only comes with time and effort Monsters have different hitboxes, and depending on which one you hit your weapon will do different damage and lose sharpness at different rates. Generally it's common sense- hit the underbelly/chest, but with some monsters it's hard to tell. And you must always remember that although you may be better and more powerful than the monsters in the game, you have way less health. Also, small enemies like insects and the 'preys respawn (although they do stop spawning after you kill a few) but the others don't. Kill them first and you should be first. The most annoying of all minions for me are the small red crabs, as they chase you at a fast pace, and can even crab walk(run) at you faster than you can run. Just get into the habit of attacking after a monster has attacked, only once or twice unless you won't get hit, and roll out. Repeat. Don't stand right in front of a monster either, as you will get hit and then get ROFLSTOMPed by being comboed. Definitely go out of your way to get materials you need to make better gear! Once you level up your weapon it gets better sharpness.
This is no hack'n'slay. Forget TERA, God Of War and whatever else. Start thinking Dark Souls, Demon Souls in terms of enemies. You need to learn how the monsters behave, their weaknesses, which weapons/armor is best against them, how all your traps, potions and items work. This is a hunting game, not a button masher. You can even kill or capure monsters without a single hit from your weapon, although that's a bit more difficult, but doable if you're correctly prepared.
I already have the best gear available atm (battle set). New gear aren't available until more levels are cleared. Though like I said before since armor makes zero difference in defense I don't see what the point is. I already knew within 5min of playing this game that it's frickin hardcore and skill based, but I never thought it was THIS hardcore, it's probably the most frustrating iOS game I've ever played. Each boss just gets more and more and more annoying. That stupid sand fish-dragon isn't hard to dodge but it dives into the sand and makes you chase it FOREVER, so ridiculous, it's like the devs of this game purposely try to make the experience as painful as possible. How the hell is it fun chasing a damn fish around in the sand? They only give you two sonic bombs, no where near enough to cover the whole fight. So after several painful tries and exhausting all cold drinks due to 95% of the entire fight spent chasing the damn fish I managed to kill it. I know how those traps work but how I the world are you expected to use them in the middle of a fight? By the time you're finished setting up a trap you'd be dead. Just as I was thinking the next boss can't get anymore annoying than this, it apparently is. Some ugly headless dragon immune to all attacks anywhere except the head. Pretty much impossible to kill this thing with a melee weapon cause without a lockon system almost all attacks will bounce right off, so off to use the heavy crossbow. Second play through, got one bit KOd (why am I not surprised) - got hit by lightning since you can't even move properly while holding the bow, then since you're stunned for like 10sec got hit by a body slam, game over. Third play through, just my luck, the dragon didn't appear AT ALL, wtf? Ran around the entire map FIVE times and not even a trace. Is this a bug or something? Pretty much just wasted 20min plus the contract fee for nothing. Time for a break cause the only thing this game's accomplished is giving me an incentive to delete it. Maybe this game is only designed for multiplayer, who knows. I swear it's like more frustrating than trying to beat Outlast insane mode.
There is no 'best' armor. Plus you could totally make some giaprey stuff or something. You can make your own sonic bombs by combining gunpowder and screamer. Stronger bosses flee to their den and fall asleep, making it so to place traps (otherwise you just have to pick the right moment). You can lock on to boss monsters by pressing the icon on the left of the screen and then either tapping the screen or swiping right on the run button. That was a Tigrex, and the purpose of that quest is just to show you what you will have to fight next, and to be honest gives a great sense of accomplishment when you finally beat it and see how far you have come. I can guarantee that you won't be able to slay it with the equipment you have now. I've only seen EP do it and he is a PRO! Seriously just forget about him until later. The materials you would get from it wouldn't even be enough to make something. As for now, just keep practicing. Learn how the monsters move and observe how they wait after attacking and that they cant really hurt you while turning towards you. This is when you should be attacking the monster, and then immediately roll out of the way. And don't get mad about the Cephadrome (sands shark), he's a pain. Also, the equipment that the cat sells is rubbish. You should make your own armor out of the stuff you find ASAP.
Check out video #6 on this playlist. http://youtu.be/V9edBEV8GfY?list=PLPPDWWxszilsdhBII5EifXnl8SowEPJ78 Those sand monsters can really annoying. A light bow gun with pierce shots are the easiest way to kill them.
Play more, complain less. Or delete. That's always a good option. As mentioned above it doesnt seem like your cuppa, since it seems you like standing right beside your target and relentlessly attacking while chugging potions. Your TERA experience wont help you here bud. Tanking damage behind pots are the worst things you can do in MH. LOL I did painfully read through your wall of text thinking i'd be able to help you in some way but i guess it really isnt your type of game. Fact is you're not the first one to complain of MH's skill-based structure dismissing it as "too difficult" or "designed for multiplayer only" so yeah...
This is definitely not the game for you. It's meant to realistically allow you to hunt unrealistic monsters. So, if you can't find a monster, it's probably on the move, flying from area to area, or hiding and sleeping. And yes, these monsters aren't easy. This game isn't easy. Took me a while to get used to it. Start small. Play the same quest a few times and collect enough pelts or scales (by carving monsters after you kill them) to upgrade armor and weapons. Then you can try tackling the next mission. It takes patience, and is for those hunters who enjoy the hunt and challenge. It's definitely a five-star game for those type of people. You'd learn a lot by hunting in multi-player with more experienced hunters. Just don't complain or be ungrateful to them. Most hunters would be happy to help a newcomer. But if you don't think you have the patience to try learning, you should probably delete it and move on.
At first, I couldn't decide whether to reply with helpful tips or just suggest that you move on from this game. But then I got to this line: which I imagined being yelled by Vinnie Jones in an exaggerated angry fashion, and the whole post just took on a comedic tone for me, lol.
I'm currently trying to earn my Barrage Piercing but I'm having problems with using the lance. You can't run, you can't dodge roll, and walking while it's out is kinda slow. Any tips labce users? I'm currently on the Garuga btw. And iirc, you also have to lance the Kirin. How do you do that?
Make use of the block. If you really need to block everything, look for the training map guide in gamefaqs or in minegarde, and look for locations for max potions and juices. Dont forget that the side and back hops can be chained to each other up to 3 times which is usually enough distance to get you to safety. The direction where to dodge of course depends on the monster's attack. Im sure you're already familiar with Garuga's double turn animation. Position yourself slightly to either his side, a little bit behind the base of the tail. Your opening here is when he does the first turn, you should be right in front of his face after the first turn animation. Then get out when he does the second animation, or alternatively, backhop, then guard. You should be able to tell when he is about to fire a fireball. 2 hits to the head, then hop and guard. These are the safest openings to hit garuga. Other openings can include hitting the face when he lands from a tail backflip, among others. But these are riskier since there is a small chance garuga does his most annoying attack... The insta charge. Always a chance he does that whenever you are within the path he does the charge. Kirin is pretty easy with a lance. Double and triple hops to avoid his lightning. Then just counter with highstabs and he dies really quick. kirin has surprisingly low health. You should be able to block or run away from his charges. Other than that, most of the time your weapon should be sheathed so you can get into position to counter faster and more effectively. Forgot to mention that when i first did the Lance training missions back on the PSP, lancing Rajang was the most stressful. LOL. Good luck when you get to him, i know eventually you'll get the barrage piercing!
