Forgot to mention the Pirate Tickets were for making the Jolly Roger armor set and pirate-themed hammer and LS weapons. I think there was an SnS and a gunlance too but i forgot.

Well I've just ranked up to HR 6 with only my Battle armour.

I get 1HKO'd by a high rank Kut-Ku's tail whip.

Where do you see the boss' HP, or even name? All I see is an icon of the boss on top of joystick whenever boss is in the same area? I'm supposed to guess when the boss' HP is low enough to capture? oO
Also the camera movement of this game is very awkward, why can't you rotate up/down? This makes those egg-carrying missions very frustrating because you can't see how far of a fall a ledge is... -_- And seriously you can't put down the egg on the ground temporarily to take care of enemies or test a ledge? Lol. Guess the hunter's hands are glued to the egg or something.
They need to add a "take all" button to supply chests/quest reward screen too... so slow and unnecessary to highlight each item to take them, not to mention there's like a 1sec cooldown between taking items for whatever reason.
I can imagine it's really easy for someone who doesn't know it's a PSP game to tell this is a quick port due to the little effort given to interface.

There is never a hp bar in monster hunter. Though all boss monsters have a sign from when they are low. Some of them limp. Some of them foam at the mouth. Some just run away. Other just get really mad and do more damage.

Yeah the camera definitely takes some getting used to. Also if you click on the boss monster's image on the screen your camera will keep focused on it. It makes life much easier.

The egg quest are balanced around the way they are. Later on you can get equipment that makes them not break when you fall of ledges. I honestly never felt it was worth the effort.

And the supply chest is balanced around multiplayer. So that one person can't take all the supplies and leave none for anyone else. Yeah it is dumb you can't take all in single player. Though pretty quickly you don't even want anything but the map, food, sharp stones, and hot/cool potions.

Just want to point out on top of this that you can actually adjust the height of the camera by swiping up and down in the middle of the screen. This game is all about knowing everything about your enemy before you just leap into battle, including that.

Most of your criticisms are certainly things designed intentionally to give each hunt as real a feeling of an expedition as you can expect when lying in bed at home, or sitting in the back of a car. It's laborious, galling, and, ultimately, extremely satisfying.

I don't know if not reading the controls or playing the tutorial as a viable form of criticism. Really the only thing I think applies as criticism is you can't put eggs down for a second.

Now if you have said something like "needing multiple 1% drop rates for 15-30 minute battles is far too grindy. I feel like it is just needlessly padding the game and I would rather continue on and fight other monsters." Then I would say you were criticizing the game. Also I would agree with you.

One thing that separates the Monster Hunter series from other games is that when it says it's 'realistic', it's likely the most realistic game you've ever played.
This is in terms of gameplay- you should know the names of the monsters around you, and if you don't just kill them (because their carves normally give you a hint).
Also, a giant, floating HP bar for bosses would be unrealistic- you shouldn't be able to tell if a monster is '3/4' health. You must learn to recognise the signs of weakness that boss monsters show.

Best interface on any of the hundreds of iOS games I've purchased. And best interface/controls of any action RPG that I've played. This is a port of a game, so all of your complaints sound like they are about the game itself and not playing the game on your device. Maybe you'd be happier playing it on a PSP. Or maybe this isn't the type of game you enjoy. It's easily one of the best I've ever played. But everyone has their own opinions. But you might want to raise your questions up to Capcom about the game itself.

Te be fair I also find the delay between taking items from the supply box annoying, but I think they removed it in Tri.
Once you hit high rank though you can't use the box for a while, and then getting them once the supplies arrive is really inconvenient as you have to go out of your way to get them.

I like how they encourage you to be prepared, but I still mooch drinks off it when I can :p

Ok I just finished the first non-training quest and there are two things I'm confused about:
    - Why are the two rarest items that I got in the hunt (white liver and something else I can't remember) confiscated when I finish the quest by tapping the red supply box? It says "white liver & [item name] delivered". I didn't want to deliver these thing?? The quest doesn't even have an objective, all I have to do is hang around and gather as much stuff as possible in 50min. No they didn't get sent to the storage box
    - Is it normal that my weapon degrades about 5x faster than training sessions, and monsters have 10x more hp (or that my weapon is 10x weaker)? It seems that I have to use a whetstone for every single kill and I'm quickly running out. Also the stamina seems to drop MUCH faster too, I think it degrades one level like every minute, burning through food items super quick. Where do I buy the cooking campfire thing, and is it possible to craft whetstones or do I have to spend $80 to buy them every time?

Yes training mission monsters are weaker. The elder mission monster are medium strength. And the hall monsters are the strongest, because they are balanced around have multiple hunters on each mission. And each weapon has its own rate of decay. Short sword and dual sword really weaken fast. And they suck. Seriously don't use short sword and dual sword, they make your life miserable in a game that wants to kick you teeth in. Giant sword and hammer tend to last a while and they are awesome. Each upgrade in weapons should give you more durability. Gun bows never need whetstone and they are really good too. I usually get my whetstone from the mining on the farm between missions and early the mini-whetstone from the supply chest should be enough.

I believe white liver have no use other than to give you points for investing in your farm. So if the mission ends before you put them in the red chest, they still get taken from you. The red chest just allows to carry more stuff during the mission.

^everything he said is true, except for the "SnS and Duals Suck" part.

SnS sure may be weak in terms of raw power, but is invaluable in sleepbombing (solo) and a fantastic class in mutiplayer, especially with paralyze weapons. Outside of those uses it is inferior to the other weapon classes except for the mobility.

Take note the only monster i cant KILL in MHFU with an SnS is Lao Shan Lung. Everything else i have solo'd back on the PSP.

Duals is a powerhouse, but is pretty complex to use, unless you start abusing juices to keep your stamina at max all the time. These are faster killers vs gravios, basarios, or even plesioth than the usual powerhouse weapons. Mobility and quick hits plus the demon modes are this weapon class's strengths. A lot better at dishing out damage than gunlances, hunting horns or SnS all the time, and can be stronger then a GS or even Hammers when taking on Bas or Grav. Duals main weakness is that juices can spoil you and wont teach you how to properly use the DS, but then juices almost double your damage output.

Since these fast weapons hit more, they dull more which would also demand keeping an eye on your weapon sharpness.

Any Account Item (such as white liver, pop tongue, carapaceon brains etc) will be taken from you at the end of the quest, and you will get money and pokke points in exchange.

In almost all cases, the items are useless (except later on when you discover alchemy, and even then there's only like 2 recipes using them).

The granny that sells you items in the village changes her stock regularly (based off quests), and sometimes she sells things for half price.
Once you get enough money you can just buy a bunch.
Also, I'm warning you now, do not waste ice crystals, stones or spiderwebs as these must be acquired manually and it's a pain having to go out of your way to get them.

Each weapon class has its own positives and negatives. For example hammers and great swords are great for solo play but harder to use in multiplayer. Hunting horns are (let's face it) crap for solo, but is 10x as useful in multiplayer.
Your weapon choice is up to you, but you should try to be flexible and not lock yourself into just one weapon.

Just a question of my own, I want to have a shot at ranged weapons, and built some bows, but are bows any good? I hear that heavy bowguns are the best but taking all the different ammo and stuff to make ammo just seems really tedious.
How viable are bows for both solo and coop?
