The katana's upgrades are very useful even for late game and it also has a great thunder element. I'd go with the katana.
Both would be ideal Duivs, but those Phantom Butterflies are a pain to find. From the opinions I've read here and there the Katana seems to win out. Thanks for the input

Finally hit HR8. Been doing the whole game solo so far so this feels like a big accomplishment for me.
Very well done, I'm pretty sure the highest I made it on my first play through was he 6 and that was with some help. What is your weapon on choice?
Finally killed that sonovab---- HR8 Rathalos. Compared to lower level Los, took me more than a couple of tries before i could beat this guy
Thanks Curtis and chubby pig. I'm well over 300 hrs into this game and still loving it. Weapon (s) of choice are Hammer and Longsword. If it's a somewhat slower enemy I can time well (Akantor), Hammer to the face. If it's a quicker more agile beast (Narga/Tigrex), Longsword to the...well, anywhere I can stab/slice it.
Congrats Edmilan! I had just beaten him earlier in the day also. He carted me real nicely with one of those backflip Guile from Street Fighter type poison tail-whip moves. I usually time it correctly and stay on it's left (my right) but the mofo did a double backflip and got me on the second. The impact didn't cart me but it took so much life away that by the time I could stand up, sheathe my weapon and fumble through for antidote...faded.
By the way, does anyone know of any Armor combination w/ or w/o weapon slots that contain the following skills: High Grade Earplugs AttackUp Large (or medium) Sharpness+ ??
Yeah, apart from being mostly unpredictable with those moves, there's this roar, stun then charge move he does which 95% of the time OHKO me even with more than 90% hp on my hunter
