That's what I had read also (but didn't know how creditable the source was). Wish we did get the more bloodier version, especially for that reason (making it more evident if you're hitting a weak spot).

Loving this game so far. Still only using bow. I kind of stopped at the HR 1 Congalala quest and have been trying to farm to get a complete Conga Armor, but the damn ape will not drop a vibrant pelt. Or a Giant Bone. Have beat the thing 9 times already, breaking the horn all but one time. Thinking I am going to continue on with the rest of the quests and give up completing my armor for the time being. Game runs great on the 6+ too. Charged my phone on Saturday noon and still have about 30% left today. Only played MHFU once on Sunday for about an hour though. Wife is not happy with this game. Not happy at all.
That'll be the Desire Sensor. The only way to get the drops/carves you want is to not want them. The more you want it the less likely you are to ever see it.
To get the vibrant pelt you need to break the congalala's 'horn' (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdpXGNZfbQM around 8'53" and cover your ears) and this will grant a 40% drop chance. As for the giant bone, it's just rare: http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Congalala_Carves You only need to persevere I sympathize
If you're free sometime, I can help you online to kill him faster. Though sometimes with stronger weapons, you end up killing them before a part breaks. Often happens for instance when I fight the Kut-Ku. Let me know! I like helping out beginners since the game gets pretty difficult towards the end.

Yeah my wife actually rolled it back to 7.1.2 because she missed playing the game with the controller so much lets hope they sort out ios 8 soon.
