Yeah I forgot about earplugs. I know Diablos and Gravios can get nasty if you don't have them. It felt like switching to easy mode when I first get my hands on the Magnitude and I was already using KAS but i wonder how would it feel the other way around. I read about it in one of your posts at gamefaqs already no need to discuss about it. Just wanna add one last thing though, the most joyful moment you'll get from this game is probably when you kill a monster with Gunlance's wyern fire and only GS can compare to that with landing a finishing Lvl 3 charge, so it'll be always more fun to use a GS in my opinion.
One thing I like about this game is that it's entirely up to the player on how he/she wants to play. Some players like to complete challenges with the most effective weapons and strategy, others like to master a single weapon and challenge themselves with completing the game with that one weapon. Not to mention that while the hammer is arguably more effective, GS is no chopped liver - it puts out a ton of hurt when used correctly. It does take more patience when taking on new monsters with a GS, as you'd have to pay closer attention to the monsters' movements and openings...but those are good habits anyway for any weapon class. Mike
If someone wants to finish the game with one weapon type my words wouldn't mean much to that person anyways but if you're gonna try different weapons and looking for a heavy damager Hammer has the edge while GS being a second close.
^Actually tis Hammers>LS>GS>Lance for melee weapon LS deals less damage per hit, but deals a lot more hits than the GS it actually kills the majority of monster faster than a GS. Just takes a bit more practice though, since standing at one place and comboing while making minor hopbacks and rolls to re-position yourself into safety, and then start attacking again takes a lot of practice to do.
I agree with this pretty much. As a big LS user I enjoy learning how to fight but it takes patience to learn how to be fluid (I still get hit a lot). The LS sweep hop back is probably the best move in its arsenal but you don't even realize that until you're 10 hours in or so. I love how there are upsides and downsides to each weapon so one isn't overpowered. LS is a bit of an inbetween between everything. Decent damage, decent speed, decent movement, etc. I'd still lean it on one of the fastest weapons but the most nimble I feel are the dual swords and the S&S.
I would actually like a game where it was the other way around- you were the monster and you had to kill hunters. Choosing between different monster classes like fast/flying/powerful etc would be sweet! Too bad such a game doesn't exist...or does it?
Yeah, the LS sweep hop back is truly great. I was playing around with a Tigrex one day and I was able to kill the Tigrex and being hit only 2 times. I used the move to change areas quickly and at the same time beat up the Tigrex. Everbody can kill a Tigrex with a LS and this strategy without having a difficult time. It's an easy fight.
Now you're just bragging lol. I've been using the LS for over 200 hrs and still get wrecked by Tigrex.
Ah, it's totally easy, really. I read about it on the Internet before but didn't know how this exactly worked until I tried myself. I'll explain. Take with you: both amulets (power and armor), the Eager Cleaver (or better), 10 potions, 10 mega potions, 2-3 potions made of each power and armor seeds, 1 shock trap, 2 trap device, 2 genprey teeth, 5 warm flesh, 10 lightning bombs, 2-3 tranquility bombs. If you have a cat with flute skills, take it with you. Run to area 8, where you meet Tigrex first. Now you use 4-5 lightning bombs (not at once ) on Tigrex and blind him, and while he's blinded, run around him and cut off his tail. Get a feeling for the timing and reach security before the effect wears off. After that, use a paintball on him to always know his exact position. Now comes the tricky part: go to the exit where you change to area 6. Look exactly where the spot to leave the area is. Wait for the Tigrex to run or jump at you. In the last moment, change the area. Best done with a dodge roll backwards. Quickly turn around and run with unsheathed LS into area 8 again. The Tigrex is directly in front or even a bit above of you. You'll now have nearly 2 second where Tigrex stands around and does nothing or snaps around just a bit. Do a LS sweep hop back, followed by a second one instantly. You'll hit him twice and change back to area 6 automatically. Turn around and run to area 8 again. Repeat the two LS sweep hop backs. If he - at one point - jumps back or isn't in front of you, just wait again until Tigrex approaches and roll back into area 6 when he's very close to you. Repeat that several times. If Tigrex at one point changes to area 6 or 7, just wait in area 8, he'll show up after a short while in area 8 (his hunting grounds) again. If you're quick enough with all that fighting and area changing, your spirit gauge will fill and you can even do a spirit combo directly when entering area 8, followed by a LS sweep or a dodge roll, to change areas. Do that whole stuff repeadly until he limps away. Tigrex will eventually go to the lair (area 3). Wait a while (so he has time to go to sleep), then enter area 3. Kill the Giaprey first, or they might be an annoyance. Set up a shock trap and give him a nice smack on the head. If he's not sleeping, use a lightning bomb and set up the trap. Now you just wait for him to come at you (with the trap between you both). When he's stuck in the shock trap, throw 2 (should be enough) tranquility bombs at his ugly face. Congrats, you've caught a living Tigrex!
^ I don't know if that's cheating or abusing or what! but that doesn't sound like a fair fight to me.
Monster Hunter isn't supposed to be a game where honor is being held high. We're not at a Knights Tournament here. Drop that thought. The monsters will use all dirty tricks to overcome you. It's your right to do the same. Or would you say that poisoning, blinding, shock trapping and sonic booming are fair fighting methods? And what do you say about users of ranged weapons? All bow and gun lance fighters battle unfair? It's either the monster's life - or your life. I think this is a good strategy for players who are struggling to beat Tigrex for the first time.
Wow...... that's incredible. You must have taken some time to learn that. I'll have to try that next time. It'll be useful especially for the stronger version of the Tigrex. And you can't cheat in Monster Hunter because hunting is about winning. Tigrex is not going to wait for you to get up off the ground so you can compose yourself. The damn Tigrex even wallslides while rushing. So cheap. Fight the dirty punks with their own medicine. I learned that when I first played Hey guys check the LS master: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqwQNQJp-gE This is... near impossible. This is pure skill. Btw, this video shows how the backsweep is the ultimate move of the LS. The player knows how to abuse it. To be fair his weapon is quite powerful but I'm mainly showing his skills at knowing exactly where to hit, when to dodge, etc. Hell he can stand right outside of the twirl range because he knows the exact range. AND he rolls right into the Tigrex when it attacks. I think he only gets hit 2-3 times and kills him in one area.
Yes, impressive video. You can do what he's doing, too. But it will take you dozens and dozens and dozens of hours of training your timing, positioning and predicting the monster's next move. The best MH players know exactly which moves can follow a certain animation and are ready to react. edit: btw., you can skip my mentioned lightning bombing at first if you don't wanna cut the tail. And yeah, I don't consider this strategy above as cheating, because no cheats were used. It's just how the game works. Maybe a bit of exploiting or something, but no cheating. It just gives you a little adventage because Tigrex can't follow you directly.
Yeah they are pretty low tier in terms of damage. They make up for it with utility though. They are probably the second lowest, with SnS being the lowest tier in terms of damage output.
True that. I've been playing with HH a lot back on the PSP days and really enjoyed soloing monsters with HH.
