So I apologize for my noobness. I really like the game but totally suck and keep getting my arse handed to me in a hand basket. I'm only on the second mission from the old lady. I'm dead after 3or4 hits from the Bango pack. Can anyone recommend what armor i should replace my leather armor with?

At that point the Leather Armor should suffice. Try not getting hit from the blangos. Those arent even boss monsters yet. :)

I think especially in the beginning your armor doesn't matter that much. You first have to understand that this is not your typical Hack'n'Slash game. As many already suggested in this thread: be patient...watch your enemies from some distance and learn their move sets. You will soon recognize the openings you could use for your attacks. After that shorten the distance and try to hit them in those openings. Depending on which weapon you use hit them once...and I literally mean ONCE! After that watch what they do and repeat. This is my first MH and I had to learn those basics too. Don't get greedy and be patient.

You know, I actually squint less on my iPhone 4s than the Vita. The screen is much smaller, but the retina screen really helps. The lower res of the PSP version makes the text really hard to read.

And yes, MHFU obliterates my now 3 year old battery. I can get 1.5 or so game time in before havin to recharge. Hoping that the iPhone 6 will help with that...

Don't feel bad - blangos gave me a hard time the first time I fought them too. This game has a steep learning curve, and can be very frustrating starting out - but once you get the hang of it, it's really a lot of fun.

Generally speaking, first time you fight any monster you want to just run circles around them for a while and watch how they move and attack. Look for patterns in their movements and attacks, and find openings for when you can attack safely. Example: if a monster usually jumps several times, but would stop for a while after they actually attack...you probably don't want to swing your sword wildly when they're moving about, but want until they actually finish an attack and close-in when they're standing still.

Also, generally try to hit and run - find an opening, go in for a strike or two, and then get out of the way. Standing still for long period of time and combo is a bad habit - monster hit pretty hard later on, and you can't afford to get hit. Roll is your friend. :)

Gear wise, Battle Armor is a great starting set that you can buy from the cat vendor. Weapon is entirely up to you, but I'd suggest sticking to one and really get comfortable with it before switching around. The Kut-ku set is a good next upgrade, once you get to Kut-kus.

Lastly, read up in your spare time!

Lavasioth is on my most hated monsters list now. I can't do the G-training quest. Any suggestions about how to finish it?

Thanks Mike! I'll get the battle armor. I guess it's not so much the blangos, but there's this other rhino looking beast that always joins the blangos and overwhelms me. He is a relentless SOB. I think upgrading my armor should get me over the hump

If I recall correctly, throw a few health jewels in your battle armor pieces and you get a +20 health boost also. Not too shabby for something so cheap and easily attainable.

And yes, the bullfango...he can be a pain in the arse when you're fighting something else. I'd try to take him out first, as he's pretty predictable. Run around until you see him charge (straight line), step aside until he passes, chase after him, attack after he comes to a stop, then get out of the way before he charges again. Rise/repeat.

Buying three pieces of battle armor gave me the additional protection I needed to take out that rhino looking SOB...which turned out to be a Bullidrome. This time I smashed and obliterated his arse into a blubbery, oozing pulp!

Then , I proceeded with another quest, killing 20 giopprey and one geodrome. Feel like I'm finally having a bit of success.

    Thanks again for your help!

Why does nobody invent an iPod/phone case that has a rubber criss-cross design for both protection and increased air flow?
    C'mon guys, we need this.

Also, if I don't get 10% of the profits I will sue you.

This was one hell of a monster. I've been trying for two days to take him and I've learned how to use lances and hunting horns in the process. Finally he is down.

Just crafted myself the Gunhammer Prototype to test out those Hammers...I like the mobility but is there any way to avoid the long animation at the end of the charged attack? When my character spins out and "drops" the Hammer it feels like an eternity to pick it up and be able to roll or dodge away...or am I doing something wrong here!?

Press attack before the 4th spin and you get to do a double strike which you can connect to a roll, or another charge. Or, press attack on the 4th spin or up and you will do the golfswing.

For full sets, Diablos Z for hammers, Rajang X for GS.

    No problem :)

If you want to maximize skill sets, best ones for Hammers are armor combos that can give HGE, Sharpness+1, RA+2.

That set is one of the most useful in the entire game, and can be used with any weapon class, but a lot more beneficial to hammers, LS, and SnS, since other classes can benefit greatly from other skills as well.
