Wow guys...I really hate the desert-area...how in the world do you get enough cold and hot-drinks to farm unhurriedly

And what is a good way to farm those Cephalos? I find it extremely hard to "catch" them as they always swim away from me...:D

Sometimes they will disappear and go back to the surface to spite at you. It should give you enough time to deal enough damage to make them jump out of the sand. Then it's just a matter of mashing the attack button to kill them.

And of course Sonic Bombs (Screamer + Gunpowder).

Throw a sonic bomb near them and it'll force them to pop out. Same thing'll happen if any type of barrel bomb explodes near them. Crag shots from bowguns can do this as well.

You can buy hot and cold drinks from the item vendors so you can bring a max of 5 instead of relying on the ones provided in the camp box.

Thanks guys! From the beginning on I wondered if it was better to buy equip like those cold and hot drinks or to craft it?!

@EP: I just did the gathering quest in the desert so I wasn't even given one single cold-drink :D

My standard inventory for any mission includes 3 Hot Drinks, 3 Cool Drinks, 10 Mega Potions, the highest combining book I own, 10 well-done steaks, a lot of paintballs, and whetstones if I'm using my ice duals (otherwise they're pretty unnecessary usually. Also max pickaxes and bugnets. Only 3 of each drink because most missions will give you 2, so you won't waste what you're given. I usually eat one steak to begin with and use the given rations as needed to keep my stamina maxed out. I also use first-aid items first generally, except when I've lost a lot of health and need to heal fast.

Is there a reliable way to max out your sonic bombs without farming kut-kus or something (for screamers, which seem to be the limiting reagent)? I burn through them fighting diablos and monoblos, and I hate having to use all of them up without an easy way to replenish them. As of now, I have plenty of money. Can I just buy more?

You can craft cold drinks with ice crystals (very easy to come by in the snowy mountains) and you can make hot drinks with hot pepper (can be grown, you can multiply your supply for free). Lategame it's a lot easier just to buy a lot of them.

I know how you feel, I was in the same situation. The Tigrex just felt too much for me and I thought I would never progress beyond this section of the game.

ButÂ…. I just defeated him at last!

The biggest problem for me was avoiding his attacks, but over time I got used to reading his movements and made a point of keeping out of his way a lot more of the time. In previous attempts I was trying to hit him too often, but I learned that it is important to know when NOT to attack and just hold back for the right opening. Then it was a case of getting my strikes in when it was less risky and I eventually managed to beat him.

Yeah, I'd say the most important things to grind for early on are mega potion components (herbs, blue mushrooms, honey). You will unlock mushroom trees early on, and then eventually you'll get a hive from which you can harvest honey, which is very useful. Once you get the hive you will probably never grind for mega potion components again, which is pretty nice.

I'm not sure I'd just do a ton of gathering quests though. I'd just do a bunch of easier missions, since they give you items for missions which will enable you to keep whatever you don't use (except for the map, first-aids, and mini-whetstones, which you have to return). You probably won't need megapotions for a lot of the earlier enemies anyway, but they're nice to have.

For clarity, I'm on the 6* elder quests now, and where I am I typically don't have to use all my mega potions to win a battle unless it's an exceptionally hard battle (ie the rathalos/rathian urgent quest)

Yeah I already farmed those components a lot. Especially in the Mountains. I think I'll upgrade my farm a bit in the next few hours.

Just noticed the lack of those cold-drinks as the first quest in the desert is a gathering-quest where they don't give you anything...except the map and the Pass.

My main problem is that I'm too canny with my materials. Like in any other RPG I tend to stockpile all my items...:D Guess I should stop doing that in MH...:D

The dual Velocidrome quest from the elder is easy enough to farm for screamers which you get in rewards. Not sure if you can get them from carving as well, but it is in rewards.

I've noticed that if I hit Kut-Ku with a flash bomb or my felyne stuns him, he usually drops a shiny object on the ground..and these turn out to be ears!

Yeah - I've used Sonic bombs for this multiple times but it's always Wyvern Tears. I started farming on the 2* Guild Quests. I'll try the 3* one at the Swamp and see if that produces better results. :( I jist want to complete tge Kut-ku armor set..

The 2-star guild quests dont give rare rewards, so i think it would never drop an ear. The 3-star does give it out though.

I'm in the same boat. Tigrex is no joke. I'm dodging and weaving, stunning him with flash bombs, trapping him, and just laying into him with my thunder LS thinking he must go down eventually and then he just rages, catches me with the edge of his charge, and I watch helplessly as he smashes me to death before I can get up.

Been at this a few days now and I feel like I've got his patterns down, but once he rages I can't evade or escape or anything. Tried hammer and bow but I've had the most success at evasion with the LS. Might be time I tried something with a shield though...

I have some free time over each week now so i intend to make at least one MH video a week, and i plan to make newbie guides similar to the ones i made for Lao Shan Lung and Black Fatalis videos back in the PSP.

I'll try making a tigrex guide and have it uploaded on the weekend. I think it would be better if i do 1 video per weapon type as well, but im not sure if i will do it for all weapon types yet as im only pretty average with some weapon types.

I use sword and shield (Thunderbane) and I managed to take Tigrex down eventually. And that was after wasting both my shock traps by setting them just as he flew off to another area.

If it's you we're talking about - your average is probably already our most expert level. LOL! But seriously, you will be HELPING out a lot if you do what you're planning to do! And maybe even upload them to some site like GameFAQs so others can benefit from your great contributions as well!
