Finally broke a ceanataur claw, with my iron katana gospel (I'm farming the ore to upgrade it to eager cleaver) but still didn't get a ceanataur claw when I finished the mission. I'm also only playing on the 2star HR1 missions, I'm sure that has something to do with it too?
Breaking at least one claw will give you a CHANCE at getting a cean claw in the rewards. A HIGHER CHANCE to be exact.
What weapon and armor set do you use? Is it the Elder's 3-starred quest Khezu or guild's quest? Its head is its weak point, so go for the legs until it trips. You know you are getting there when it is enraged. At that point, you need to be careful because it is quicker and its moves all hit harder. I've read in this thread that people using ranged weapons find it easier. A thing I do and which I haven't seen when questing online (it was just one time) with some others: hit the tail where it touches the ground when the Khezu is doing its 'Blanka' (as in Street Fighter's Blanka) attack. You need to be careful that your move does not get you in its range. Spoiler My current strategy (because I needed to farm the khezu) on the 3-starred elder's quest is going to area 7, clear the Giapreys, deal with the Khezu if it is there. At some point it will fly towards area 8 which is when you need to move to area 6 to get in front of it. Again deal with the Giapreys and then the Khezu. Capture it when it is sleeping in area 3. As for tactics (using the hunting horn): super pound on the leg/dodge to avoid being in the range of the thunder shield attack/swing upwards once (eventually twice) if it is facing me but and so on. When it's enraged, never close on it if I don't have enough HP (the electrified Khezu slam and shield are almost ohko with the Giaprey set), focus on hitting small. Oh and avoid staying away and in front of it: its ranged attack is its most powerful one. So either stay rather close or away and 3/4.
Khezu is susceptible to poison. I was able to poison him twice per battle using a kut ku stave bow with poison coating. Didn't bother with any other coatings or traps or anything, but I'm sure they'd help. He's tanky, powerful, and has a short window for melee attacks against him, but he's pretty slow and predictable. I think he's a good candidate to learn how to use ranged weapons if you haven't tried them, just don't get hit.
Watch it's movements, the cheap electric attacks are mostly avoidable. Just don't get too carried away attacking and get caught out. Don't get stuck under him. Attack his legs, wings and face when you can. Always try to pay attention to what monster is doing at all times, try to reposition yourself between attacks to prepare for its next attack. If you are using a weapon which can not block best you take hearing protect skill to avoid scream then shock (or jump or jump shock or lightning shot or any combination of above) until you are familiar with his movement patterns. If using a blocking weapon after you block his body electric charge you will not get hit again and can get in a couple free digs. Maybe your weapon is too weak and needs an upgrade? Must keep upgrading weapons, more important in some ways than armour. The sooner you kill a monster the less potions you need! As you get better you will find avoidance is king!! MH best tactic for any weapon is don't take needless hits as healing wastes good monster slapping time. And almost every monster leg damage will make them fall, free hits to the body part of choice.
I'm using all Blango armor with a Hermitaur Mail. Iron Katana "Gospel". It's the elders quest. I might just have to look into a bowgun then.
I learned how to kill khezu when I was using lances and they worked great for me. Flank him as he attacks, hit him twice (don't get too greedy), then let him attack, dodge that, then attack again.
Yeah the khezu really teaches you a lot about Monster Hunter, the main thing is that it proves that it is not a hack n slash game but is all about timing, patience and knowing your monsters. It is a great monster for learning your weapon too.
Just beat Lao Shan with about 6seconds left on the clock! That fat piece of meat takes some serious beating!!!!
Man, Khezu is really easy when you know how to kill him. He's mega slow, so he can't hit you if you move. Just lock the camera on and run around him. He will always miss with every attack if you don't stand in one place. When he electrocutes himself, just count to 3 and then proceed to hit him. If he sends the electric charge forward he is recovering pretty long so just slap him over the head. Attacking legs is what I do with hammer. Long sword isn't the best weapon against this guy as he has very strong attacks you need to block or wait until opening, which means you'll never charge your sword enough. Ranged weapons are good as well.
This is a very good set and a good weapon! Can I ask why you mix the Hermitaur mail in the Blango set? according to the info on Wikia you get the following armor skill points: Cold res +10 Quake res +8 Snow res +8 Terrain -8 Defense +2 Throw +1 Thunder res -2 Guard +2 And a -4 to Thunder elemental resistance.
I completely agree! Also, as I've posted a few threads back - try the Khezu Trainings missions, not for the Training rewards (but they are useful for creating some Black Belth weapons in the future) but to observe, analyze, and be able to capitalize on the Khezu's attacks and patterns. Lock on it using the camera lock on button and tapping on the screen again, and just run around it to observe, observe, observe. When you've learned all its attack patterns then you will realize all the openings you can attack successfully and rolling out and waiting for the next one. Then, like me, you will come to the happy realization: "Ohhhhh, so that's it...."
What is the difference between the ceanataur S set and the ceanataur U set, and which is better for blademaster? Additionally, what is the best gems to slot in?
I don't know the exact differences but I went with s because u decreases your health also a good way to jewel it would be 3 grinder jewel 3 fierce jewel and 1 attack jewel but in order to do this your weapon needs to have a slot. But you'll get attack up large sword sharpener skill and sharpness +1
Full Cean S is one of the best high rank blademaster armors in the game. Especially when gemmed for Attack up M or L (Large will need weapon slots iirc), and Sharpening Skill Inc (grinder gems). And of course it has sharpness+1.
I accidentally skipped the dialogue of trenya giving me the harp and I can't find it anywhere online :'( If someone else doesn't skip it can you please tell me? I know it's probably not important, but what if I'm on 'do you want to be a millionaire' or something and I'm asked what the dialogue is?
