How many tries? Want to guess?

No? Okay it died on my 387th attempt!!!!!!! (Yes I kept count)
It's taken me literally weeks to kill it!!!

I wont keep playing as no doubt the monsters get harder so this is it for me, but I just HAD to beat it. ;)

Congratulations Mene! The monster do indeed get harder, but at least now you can retire in peace knowing that you showed that kut-ku who's boss :)

If you pick up a mifi controller or jailbreak in the future, perhaps you should give the game another whirl.

Good job Mene! I'm happy for you!

Even if you are calling it quits, maybe you'll have more fun just playing the smaller missions with weaker monsters (that don't require you to beat a boss).

Ugh, just spent 25 minutes shooting red khezu in the face until I had him limping away. Then one of those red dinos hits me in the back, paralyses me, and while I'm helpless the khezu turns and slowly 1 shots me. I thought I heard the Dino lean in and whisper "Welcome to Dark Souls", but I can't be sure...

Iirc, wasn't there the possibility to use a dung bomb on a Rajang to repell him and finish of the other one first?

FML, ash lao destroyed the fort with, no joke, 9 seconds left.

If I had pulled off just ONE more stagger on him...

You beat it in less than 15 minutes though. You should keep moving forward. Taking a more conservative approach--the time limit is high for a reason--I don't think you'd continually find tougher opponents that much harder. I also think there's a psychological aspect that makes someone a lot more effective as they get better equipment that vastly transcends the literal boost the equipment provides.

I definitely don't do as well as I used to do with melee weapons in MH for the PS2 for lack of a tactile control reference, but I've been doing pretty well with ranged weapons since the tactics for all opponents are sort of similar with those; I just have to juggle my location and that of the camera. Getting down the "kata" that is ideal for each weapon/opponent combination is a LOT tougher without buttons. But you can bypass this issue with range.

Great job Mene! I think you could still go on but someone already mentioned it: maybe you could get a controller to aid you with the game!?

Nonetheless great perseverance and dedication! :)

If I see correctly in the screen shot, you killed that Kut-Ku with an unmodified LS bone sword or maybe a bone sword+??
Wowzers. Wowzers wowzers wowzers. You literally "chipped" him away with that weapon!!!
No wonder you took so many attempts to kill him.

By the time you meet the Kut-Ku, you should have already access to the Blango Destroyer (or even better, the Blango Destroyer+, 'cause that's a very easy upgrade), which features ice damage. Blango Destroyer is a weapon rather simple to farm and make. It needs:

    Blango Pelt (8)
    Sharp Claw (5)
    Iron Ore (5)
    Carpenterbug (5)

    and the upgrade to Destroyer+:

    Blango Pelt (6)
    Iron Ore (8)
    Ice Crystal (5)

Since the Kut-Ku is a fire wyvern, ice is (besides water) its main weakness and the Blango Destroyer+ the right weapon for the job, taking out the Kut-Ku with 480 Attack Power and Ice 200.
With the help of 2-3 sharpening stones and 6-8 Power Seeds (to give you a bit more impact on your hits), 6-8 Armor Seeds and 2-3 sonic bombs, the Kut-Ku should have been down in maximum 10 minutes.
The LS Bone Katana Shark (dunno the exact English Name) also would have had enough power to bring him down very fast. The shark upgrade for the bone katana LS is also relatively easy to aquire (if you know how to handle the land sharks in the desert).

Do yourself a favour, make the Blango Destroyer+ and try that Kut-Ku again, and I promise you'll see a HUGE difference.
I always have at least 4 different LS at my disposal, one with raw power and the rest with elemental damage, to always be able to chose the correct weapon for the job.

Phone battery died... Sometimes it skips the warnings and goes straight to off. On a side note, is red khezu strong against electric(or thunder or whatever)?

Yeah, Red Khezu is strong against thunder, its main weakness is water. This Khezu sub-species is also immune to fire and, annoyingly, not very weak to ice.
I'd definately go with a water weapon - Water Scythe LS is THE Red Khezu killer - or a raw damage weapon. Since standing beneath him is - unlike to other monsters - a very bad idea, go for his face or neck. Saves you a lot of trouble.

How come my felyne explorer kitchen skill doesn't always work?
Yes, it's a high rank quest
No, it's not a gathering quest
For example, the 'kill two velocidrome' higher ankle quest spawned me in an ordinary area.

Is there a way to tell if it will work or not?

Just upgraded my LS to Iron Katana Gospel...think I'll go for the Eager Clever next...but then I realized that I'm still wearing the first Armor-set...:D

    Still can't decide what to wear...any suggestions...

    EDIT:

Thought about getting the Battle Armor because of it's Fire Resistance...but then again...should I buy it or craft it...!?

Just for proof, I put on the same armor as Mene and used a Blango Destroyer+ to hunt the Kut-Ku down. Finished him off in 4 minutes, 'cause he escaped once to his cave. Spent the 5 minutes before to collect honey from the three sources and find that darn Kut-Ku.

Hm... a good choice after the first set is always the Gia-set. Easily upgradeable and quite nice for the first three sets of village quests.

Armor skills are a lot more valuable than armor defense, btw! Keep that always in mind. When you make an armor, look at the skills and think: "is it good? Or is it a waste of money?", depending on the skills you need. I've taken from your post that you're a LS user, as me. That means that you can't rely on blocking skills, in fact, you have none. So since you're rolling and dodging most of the time, the skills of the armor are even more important than the defense itself. Sure, it helps to survive when a Congalala suddenly sits on yer face, but your main target is: not getting hit at all. If you find an armor with good skills but weaker defenses than another set you have in mind, you can always balance that out a bit by gulping down an armor seed or putting some defense jewels into the armor, if needed.

A great beginner set is also the Blademaster Battle set, which gives Attack Up and Fast Sharpening, I believe. But I never used it myself.

But no matter what you chose, go for the Kut-Ku set asap. Kut-Ku set is easy to aquire by then. It's a great early game armor, useful for hunting monsters with Fire attacks. The Attack Up S can easily be improved to Attack Up M and the Health +20 to Health +30, and even the latent skill, Fire Resistance, can be activated without any weapon slots and without any negative skills. Pimp it up with some gems and you're ready to go for the bigger badasses. Kut-Ku is extremely useful vs. Rathalos, which will come up soon for you. Those beasts throw around cozy fireballs.

And as a general rule: in the beginning, mixing armor, is very inefficient.

Regarding yer sword: yes, go for the Eager Cleaver. After that, upgrade it to the Devil Slicer! Due to the ease of obtaining this weapon, it is popular and used by many, especially when hunting Tigrex. All beasts with weakness to thunder are also easy prey for the Devil Slicer. Just remember to take enough Sharpening Stones to quests.
