I don't think the unlocks are based on grades I think it's just to do with the items you get from fighting multiple times. Although I've got an A rank on all but 2 missions so I might be wrong. I've unlocked all the armour and nearly all weapons. There's only one title I don't have and I think it's something to do with using one type of weapon so many times. But I reached the 100 Mark and the scale just moved up to show a 500 line.
Alright, hit a glitch. I have been slowly going through the game beating each monster 10 times before moving on. Last night I beat the Blue Yian Kut Ku 12 times and got no achievement for it. Today I killed Blongaga 10 times and got the achievement. Anyone else run into this yet?
Anyone know what the last great sword is? It's the last one I need, I've fought all the monsters 20+ each but still nothing.
Wyvern Agito Blood red horn x6 Wyvern Skull Shell x4 Brute Bone x4 May I ask what is the sword/shield between the frost edge and the wolf blade? This is the only one I'm missing
Hmmmm not sure this is the last item I need too. Going by the other weapons gs/ds five up from the bottom it should be something to do with the rathian as there's no rathian s&s but I've fought 21 rathians so far and around 20 of each of the others but can't figure out what it could be. I'll post back if I manage to unlock it.
Got the last s&s: "Princess rapier" Rathian scale x4 Fire wyvern fluid x4 Poison sac x3 Poison sac is a rare material dropped from basarios (stage2-1), you probably need to break its abdomen twice and tail (so that you can get a S for the parts score) to increase the chances.
@Chexk03 and Monkey: you guys are really leading the charge here- thanks for forging ahead so the rest of us can benefit from your experience! Silly question, but when you're trying to break wings, does the game count strikes only against one side, or does it count striking either wing- like can you start off hitting the left, then continue on the right?
Dont think I've broke the wings before. Only the head, chest and cut off tail. I'll give it a try though I've never really focused on the wings before.
OK, so I have a sort of silly question. I searched the thread, and I found references to breaking parts of the monsters. Is there an indication to when a part is broken? For example, I have been trying to break the tail from the monster in mission 2-1, but I find it difficult to stay behind him in order to get hits in on his tail. In addition, whenever I hit him, I bounce off. Is there some sort of strategy I am missing? Thanks in advance.
In general the best way is to get a "chance" time which I have already describe, because the enemy is defenseless, therefore you can target specific positions. There are exceptions though such as the monster in 1-4, 2-1 and 3-2, since the only way to break their chest part is to counter their breath attack with a slash attack (you will notice that they raise their heads). You can also equip the armor with "unbreakable" skill, which prevent you from being bounced away when attacking the hard parts of monsters. When you destroy a part, the screen will flash once and a sound effect like glass shattering will be played, then you will notice the corresponding part of monster is either away or damaged (the differences might be small, though, like claws and wings). Some parts can be broken more than once. PS: only the VERY END of the tail counts when you try to cut off the monster's tail. Nothing happens if you are too close to the opponent. PS2: you can attack the wing from either sides and they count as one.
Breakable parts: (if a part needs to be destroyed multiple times I will mark with a "x2" or whatever the number is), correct me if I got the number wrong. 1-1 ears 1-2 left hand claw, right hand claw, horn 1-3 left hand claw, right hand claw, carapace on the back 1-4 head, chest 2-1 chest X2, tail 2-2 ears X2 2-3 teeth, tail X2 (or3?) 2-4 head X2, wing, tail 3-1 (not complete) beak, ears X2, back, wing, tail 3-2 head, chest 3-3 left hand claw X2, right hand claw X2, carapace on the back X2? 3-4 horn, tail Got overall rank S for all stages except for 3-1, that damn monster has way too many parts to destroy, and its back can only be reached with a GS! Even though I seemed to destroy everything that I can think of, there's still one part missing? This is crazy!
@chexk03 nice getting those s ranks I've only got a on everything except the red khezu and basorios (only b on them). Still struggling to kit of the damn basorios tail off
How are you getting S ranks? I'm still having trouble with the mission bonuses. Do the weapons matter which one for which monster? For instance I can destroy the Yian Kut Ku with my KutKu DS in a matter of seconds but that does nothing for my mission bonus.
So far it seems that the only thing matters is that how many times the "chance time" is activated, you can either douge ALL the monster's super attack (with a "danger" warning) or use your items wisely. Dodging the normal attack probably helps too. I usually just strategically "play" with the monster for a while before finishing them off. Talking about using the offensive items to enter "chance time", here's what I have found: Note: during the monster's super attack, you can not counter with items to get "chance" time even they are using the very same move. 1-3 using the barrel when the monster put both of its claws in front of it and SLASH 1-4 throw the dagger when the monster is about unleash its unblockable electric attack (not recommended, cuz it's also the only chances you can break it's chest, and in order to do so you have to SLASH) 2-1 SLASH when the monster is about to unleash the sleeping/poisonous gas (seems to be random though) 2-2 keep distance with the monster and throw the flash bomb when it's charging at you 2-3 just place the trap, when the monster hit it, SLASH FROM FRONT IMMEDIATELY. 2-4 dodge and SLASH when the monster does the somersault attack 3-1 flash bomb when the monster does the somersault attack 3-2 throw the dagger when the monster is about to unleash its plasma projectile, timing is important! 3-3 just place the trap, when the monster hit it, SLASH IMMEDIATELY 3-4 when the monster hide underground and approach you, place a barrel (actually, not recommended for part breaking purpose, cause you can't hit it's head or tail. Instead, dodge the super attack!) DS is the weapon I use most so far, and I got all S Rank with it (except for 3-1, which I still can't beat)
Same here I'm getting the mission bonus score from dodging and countering etc. Just play around with it more learn the patterns to know which way to roll an attack from.
