Mini review: Despite coming under pretty intense fire from mobile gaming media such as Pocket Gamer and App Spy, I personally think there's a lot to like about Monster Hunter. Now I haven't played the console or PSP games, so I don't have any basis for comparison, but as a stand-alone iOS game, there's definitely fun to be had here. However, there are weak spots. Apart from the brevity of the single player campaign, there are one or two other criticisms I can level at MHDH, but it should be noted that they aren't deal breakers by any means. Despite coming from the mighty Capcom, the lacks the high levels of polish you'd expect from such an esteemed developer. This is particularly evident in the menus and general UI, which are undeniably low-rent. Perhaps more alarming, is the 'intuitive' control system. While it's undeniably refreshing to do away with a virtual D-pad and buttons, the replacement system of taps, swipes and flicks are regrettably flawed. It would appear that Capcom have attempted to mimic App Store sensation Infinity Blade's flawless system, but the result is overly complicated and unforgivably tangled. While not unworkable, Capcom's drawing board is undoubtedly calling. However, if this can be overlooked, or dare I say it, perhaps even forgiven, you'll be greeted by a product that is pretty, involving and above all, fun.*I'd certainly recommend Monster Hunter to any action fan that can look past it's obvious flaws.
I was actually expecting more in this version of MH. Like many people have said, I don't seriously need a lot of tactics or strategy to play this game. I would rather continue playing my psp version than this one.
@mumblebee: perhaps in this update, the EX and Real Hunt modes will address this- higher monster difficulty and (i hope) removing those stupid 'DANGER' signs. And the monster health bar... Coming from Freedom Unite, those were the things that annoyed me most. Well, that, and the serious lack of difficulty. Oh, and the horrible fonts. So did Capcom mess up this update?
Well I don't think the update has done anything. I've had a few plays this morning and cant see anything new or different. So yes I think something has gone wrong with this update.
this REAL HUNTING thing removes danger sign from monsters attacks and removes the health bar.. every monsters have much more HP from the normal mode.. I don't know if there is more...
Bows, Lances, gunlances, and Hammers(not to mention the much needed additional monsters)! That makes room for new weapons/armors. My prayers have been answered!!! Even though the vid didn't show it, I hope they clean up the graphics a bit.
