Will the play style kinda be like minigore? Because 100,000 of the same enemy trying to kill you gets a bit repetitive and boring :/
Hope you make it interesting! :D
    Thanks

We haven't totally fleshed out the PvP arena specifics yet... so not sure if we're going to do leagues or what. There will most likely be some kind of level bracket match-ups so that game-play is competitive.

As for donations... we're more than content with just a purchase of any of our games that you're interested in! Honestly, we only want people buying any IAPs if they feel like its worth it to them.

See my sig for newsletter signup ;)

As for female characters, the humans in this game are basically asexual, featureless little balloon heads :p Not to mention you don't really play much at all as the human except in the town, so they're not a very big part of the game.

Main thing holding up a trailer is UI and effects... not sure when those will be ready >_<

Between having over 50 abilities/spells/skills, counter-based combat, and tons of unique enemies, combat should never be boring ;) In fact, one of the reasons we love Monster Adventures is because we felt that many other "monster games" had really cool character development and customization, but boring game-play that seems like just an afterthought. We wanted to make sure you were actually being able to use your monster in action packed game-play. Anyone familiar with Bug Heroes should know how general combat and movement will be like... only with TONS more abilities and some enemies that are more "hard counter" based.

See above... short answer: heck no. We've got 30+ unique enemies (by unique, i mean actually unique, in that you have to change the way you play to beat them).

Also don't forget there is a whole extra layer of exploration in this game... in something like Minigore you're running around a small arena just blasting things to bits... which I'm not saying is bad, just not what this game is about.

Alright that's great to know! I just didn't want it to be like 2 monsters just constantly rubbing against each other scratching with flaming hands and all you did was hold your joystick in the monsters direction, but as long as it takes some skill I think that's great.

So what you're saying is that a very very very skilled person with a less than decent monster has a chance at beating a built super awesome character controlled by a guy who is less than decent at playing? Seems pretty awesome to me.

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR!
I love tactical strategy stuff, so I'm sure this game will please me to no end :p
Adventuring is also one of my favourite parts of games, so the game is definitely in my instant-buy book!

@Foursaken: can you expand on what you mean by endless environments? Do you mean randomly generated levels (so endless in terms of infinite possibilities) or an actual sprawling world (so endless in terms of world size)?

Also MA features 30+ unique enemies.. Bug heroes has 50+ unique enemies - will you support MA with content updates like BH, H&C, BF?

    • There is no perma-death... but there are major penalties if you die in the field (well... not penalties per se, just you don't get anything that you collected or earned during that adventure, including XP). We think this is a great layer of risk vs reward strategy in order to make you really think about how deep you think you can make it. If you get greedy or end up dying it will definitely suck, but not so much so that it will be frustrating

    • Your game will auto save in the town.

    Sorry, my bad :p

    • Oops, you're right... that's actually our bad for not being as globally aware as we should be >_< We're shooting for about 1.5-2 months for actual release... could be a bit sooner or later than that... we'll have more info as we get closer to finishing up!

There are various "rarities" of each essence, which you will find as you level up... So the more you level up, the better chance you will have of finding better essences. As for abilities and stats, we usually try to balance our games so that you truly have as many options as we give you... so there won't be any essences or items that are a "no brainer" that just trump everything else... so really - as long as you play to your characters strengths

    • You can make and compete with whatever monster you want.

    One suggestion I would make:

-Make the game more "handicap friendly" For example: Please allow a auto attack or "hold to a button to keep attacking" because when gaming many of us get "finger fatigue" especially those who have arthritis or other joint issues which prevent us from gaming if the game has repetitive button mashing.

Would love some feedback on the above and appreciate you guys for your amazing communication with the community.

    Much love,
    Dan

    • I believe all of our games have a "hold to attack" button, including Heroes and Castles... I couldn't help but kind of chuckle when I see people continuously, frantically mashing the attack button in that game in videos

    • In any case, Monster Adventures will be no different... standard dual stick setup (hold the right stick to continuously attack in the direction its pointing). We will also have auto aim option (hold to attack nearest enemy - much more beginner friendly, but much less control). And we're shooting for a more "hands off" control scheme as well, that will be simply tap to move, tap to target an enemy - when an enemy is targeted your monster will keep attacking it until its dead, with whatever attack, skill or ability you're currently using.

To highlighted part in quote: so I can ALWAYS find something better than I currently have, right?

    • Ah I see... no, there is a cap to how strong of essences you can find, so there is a "best". There is also a level cap, so it wouldn't make much sense to keep having unlimited strength of items... since we'll be including competitive versus as well, we have to have some kind of standardization.

The Colosseum is 1 vs 1? What are the benefits, if any on being high rank in the pvp?

How will you balance high lvl vs low?

    • Actually, the Coliseum is both the main driving factor of the SP game, and the PvP arena. Basically, you can take a team of up to three monsters into the coliseum... while it is 1v1 combat, there will be quite a bit of strategy in determining which of your monsters you want to enter into the coliseum first, to match up with the opposing teams order of monsters. With elemental combat playing an important role, you will need to either have a well balanced team, or one that matches up to exploit the weaknesses of your opponents team (in SP at least). In SP, you will slowly build up your monsters by exploring the endless environments (the rogue like gameplay), and ultimately try to progress through the many stages of the coliseum.

    • In PvP, I imagine we will have some type of leaderboard.

    • As for rewards from the Coliseum, not sure on that one yet.

-I read through every post in this forum but I am not 100% clear about the "universal" app, will we be able to seamlessly play on my iPhone and iPad through iCloud or will this eventually be added?

-I had a few more question on my earlier post so i will just move them to here:

-How will you balance high lvl vs low in PvP?

-I would like to suggest a premium in App purchase which gives us a unique "Gold" or whatnot cosmetic look for our PvP profile or hero monster (like a frame around monster name/hp/mp). What i would really like is a $100 option that is like a donation, it unlocks all in app purchases and gives this cosmetic look/supports you guys. You deserve it!

    ----------
-Any chance for a email signup Foursaken Media newsletter? I would love to sign up and get direct marketing from you guys regarding any upcoming games/upcoming updates etc.

-Our character in town can be Male/Female? I notice previous games have few if any female characters, units, enemies etc.

Here is a compilation Reply/Page 1 of 2 of everything we know about the game so far as of 5/8/2013

In Monster Adventures you play as one of the rare humans to have a special link with the ancient guardians of nature. These Nature Spirits have the power to imbue themselves with the essences of any creature or monster, allowing them to transform into nearly limitless forms!

Game-play is a mix of monster collecting/mixing with thousands of combinations, deep, elemental based combat, rogue-like adventuring complete with randomized, endless environments, RPG character development with tons of skills and abilities to learn and master, and lots more!

    Features
    • find, collect, mix and match monster essences to create your own, unique monster!
    • a variety of randomized environments to explore!
    • rogue-like game-play: explore as much as you can, gaining better rewards, items, loot, and experience the longer you are able to survive! Die in the field though, and come back empty handed...
    • take up to 3 monsters into the dangerous coliseum, using strategy and skill to defeat other powerful teams of monsters! Progress through the ranks and find out the true purpose of the tournament...
    • lots of side quests!
    • tons of active, passive, and elemental based abilities to learn. Customize your monster with the abilities and stats you want!
    • deep combat, featuring a host of interesting enemies, elemental based combat and counters, a mana based skill system, and more!
    • online versus mode: take your monster to the coliseum and battle others around the world!
    • and tons more
    • Quote:

    Those pictures piqued my interest
    • The default control setup is indeed dual stick... with most of our games we try to incorporate a degree of skill, so like in Bug Heroes, maneuvering around melee enemies and dodging projectiles will be an important part of combat... nothing gives you that kind of control like dual stick. That being said, we're hoping to include a tap to move and tap to target style alt control scheme for one handed gameplay

    • As for story, there is a rudimentary story that you will discover as you progress, but the game isn't necessarily story driven. Think: pokemon... the focus is more on building up your monsters and adventuring. There is a town "hub" where you can talk to townsfolk, get side-quests from the mayor, compete in the coliseum, and slowly uncover the underlying story.

    • There are around 52 Monster Essences (13 "sets") to find in total for launch, giving you 10s of thousands of combinations. On top of that, you can imbue each essence with one of 5 elements (many enemies are elemental based, and each element has its counter). On top of THAT, you can find different "classes" of each essence, from weak, to legendary.

    • One of the interesting things about Monster Adventures is that its not so much like a traditional monster game where you make or find your monster and call it a day. Each essence has certain abilities attached to them, which you will slowly learn over time as long as you are using the appropriate essence. So say you find some crappy arm essence that has an amazing ability attached to it... if you want that ability you will have to level up with those crappy arms in order to "learn" the ability (once most abilities are learned however, you can use them with any other essence - some do have prerequisites though). It creates some really interesting choices in how you want to create your monsters and how you want to play. Additionally, when you level up, your base stats are altered by what essences you are currently using... so if you want to focus on defense, you should be using defensive oriented essences. Or you can of course go for a well balanced mix. The cool part is just that you have complete control over how your monster both looks AND plays!

And no, you do not need an online connection to play SP.

    • Well, your "monster" is actually a Nature Spirit, which has a weak, ether like form, that takes the form of other monsters. You imbue him with the essences of monsters that you find, making your Spirit change form - this is how you can create all sorts of different creations, mixing and matching however you want. Its kind of like equipment in a standard RPG... different essences have different attributes, stat bonuses, and abilities that are tied to them. When you level up, your Spirit will gain base stats, but those base stats will change depending on which essences are equipped. So its important to grow your Spirit with essences that fit with your play style. Its actually a really deep character development system that we think gives players tons of choice and variety Its also probably one of those things that makes a lot more sense when you're actually playing it

    • As for IAP, we honestly don't even think about IAP during the development and balancing of our games... we play, balance, and finish all of our games without any IAP in mind, and then we add what we think is fair at the end... this way any IAP in the game is TRULY extra. So, right now, I have no idea what the pricing structure will be, except that it won't be freemium

    - Is this open world exploration or areas connected by loading? Or is like Demon's Souls, where you can return to a safe area and choose to explore various levels which consist of multiple seamless areas?

    - Dual stick? What's the focus: melee, projectiles, powers, etc.?

    - Is the gameplay tactical (priortizing enemies, funneling groups, setting traps, etc.) or more chaotic like Minigore?
    ---
Oh, and is 'Monster Adventures' the finalized name? Not to be rude, but it seems kind of bland. Like a placeholder title. I mean, Heroes & Castles and Block Fortress had intriguing names. If I didn't know Monster Adventures was from Foursaken, I would have ignored it. Just saying
This is a bit of a genre mashup... but the genres probably aren't as unorthodox as some of our other games. If I had to describe it that way, I'd call it an adventure/rogue-like/RPG/monster mixing/elemental combat

    • In regards to levels, there is a town hub where you are your actual human character. There you can talk to people, buy items, imbue your essences with elements, take on side quests, and then choose to go out and explore various environments with your monster, from the town hub.

    • With combat, the focus is all of those things! We've got TONS of abilities and skills to learn. You can equip 4 at a time, but can also swap them out mid-battle too (for a small penalty, using some of your mana)... so its more like "quick slots". Enemies vary a ton also, so some are resistant to some elements, other resistant to melee attacks, others to ranged attacks. Most magical abilities use mana, so its another strategic layer in managing your skills and abilities. So piggy backing off of that, combat is very strategic and situational! Its definitely NOT "mindless" button mashing killing hordes of generic enemies like you might see in Minigore (not to say thats bad or anything... just not what Monster Adventures is about).

    • As for the name, it isn't the most interesting on the one hand, I agree, but on the other it immediately lets you know what the core of the game is about, which is more important imo than a weird or striking name sometimes (heck, Heroes & Castles and Block Fortress were definitely pretty basic and self explanatory as well)... especially in the App Store where many people will judge a game in about 5 seconds by the name, icon, and screenshots
