I was looking around for a backup and stumbled upon this 2200mAh battery: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10831&cs_id=1083105&p_id=5480&seq=1&format=2 Now, of course it's not as convenient as the ones that act as a protective case, but then, I don't need a backup battery all the time. Just for special occasions, like if I'm on a plane, or a long car ride. And in those occasions, this battery which is roughly 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the iPhone itself, it's perfect. After a test last night, it completely recharged my dead iPhone from nothing to 100%, and still had a bit of juice left in it. I've seen higher-capacity batteries, more convenient batteries, and smaller batteries, but absolutely nothing that comes close to this one when everything is put together. And Monoprice is a fantastic company, as anyone who's ordered any of their cables will tell you.
From what I've found while looking around, batteries with roughly this capacity easily go for $30+. If you get one of the nicer ones that also acts as a protective case, even more. Anyway, I just got in from a flight last night, and this thing worked wonderfully during it
