Maybe you just suck. In the beta I came in first pretty much every third game or so. And if I came in any place except for last, chances are I still had a great time playing. Damn I love that game, need to get it soon. As for modnation, I'm probably not going to get it. It seems like lbp and honestly I didn't really enjoy that game. When I first saw the trailer for Modnation I actually thought it was a downloadable game for like ten bucks because of how little content there was. It definitely does not seem like it is worth 60 bucks.
For career mode, use your boost for the shield. It saves me a whole lot of frustration. There is a TON of content. There's 4 or 5 cups (cant remember) and each is with 5 races. Each of the 5 races contain 3 challenges that don't have to be completed, but give you tokens if they are (you can always go back to the races). Not to mention the online modes, casual, xp, and hot lap and the millions of downloadable tracks, mods, and karts.
I've been trying, but it seems to me the warning noise you hear isn't very consistent. Sometimes it barely bleeps once and I get hit, other times it's bleeping for ages and I waste my shield because I was expecting contact and it hasn't happened. I do think the shield depletes too fast. You can use the entire bar just avoiding one attack, and often if you're in first place on the final lap you're gonna have about 3 attacks coming at you all at the same time. That said, I'm not actually stuck yet... but I've heard a lot of talk about how much harder it gets on the 4th set of races.
For rockets (I dont know about other attacks), you can see the rocket on the map of the race in the bottom left corner, so you can see how far it is from you.
Burnout, Twisted Metal, that Arctic racing one that had a demo recently. I hate using the nub for driving, and the face-button controls are usually not that much better either. I gave Mod Nation a try because I thought a kart racer wouldn't demand as much precision, but it seems even more sensitive than other racers. It could very well just be me, but I just don't think the PSP as a good platform for racing games. The iPad, on the hand, is awesome .
Can't say I've tried the iPad, but I do think that the PSP is great for racers. Burnout Legends is great and Midnight Club LA Remix is about as precise as you can get, far more than any iPhone racer I've ever tried. The other two you mentioned(twisted and I think motorstorm) I agree, those control horribly/bad. Might just be the games you're playing, not the actual PSP. Modnations controls are just horrible, I hate the game(on the PSP) and the PS3 version while better by a mile just doesn't interest me that much.
Burnout Legends was definitely the best of the bunch -- I did spend a lot of hours with it, now that I think of it, though I don't believe I had the patience to unlock everything on it. The other games I just spent more time watching spectacular crashes (involving my car, sadly) than actually racing. Maybe I should give midnight club a try.
One thing about Midnight Club LA, it's HARD. The controls are great, but the other cars you're racing against are really good. There might be a demo somewhere though, either on the PSN Store or somewhere online.
heh, I kinda agree. Don't get me wrong, I like LBP on my PSP, but the best part for me is trying out all the different user made levels(for giggles). The actual platforming feels a bit unpolished.
Ahh I'm talking about the PSP version, I've only played the PS3 demo. Didn't like the demo, but still...can't say much about the full PS3 game.
orlly? demos usually suck, like especially in games that are all about creating you own world, like mod nation or LBP
So I got this game Friday and have been hooked. But I must say, getting EVERYTHING unlocked (via the challenges and payoff's in each race) is f*cking HARD. I am not the best racer, but I am also very experienced and the enemy AI is freaking retarded sometimes. Example: Saving up the weapons at the last minute only blast your ass right before hitting the finish line being first. GARRRRRRR But in other news, the customization of this game is freaking brilliant. And huge. Lots to do and many things to attend to. ^.^
MNR is gonna give me a heart attack. Somehow I'm still scraping through the career, but it's one hell of a scary ride.
I think it's an excellent game (for PS3; have not tried the PSP version.) I think the racing part is far more than just "ok." In fact I'd rate it without a doubt the next best kart racer to Mario (SNES, DS and Wii are my preferred versions.) The kart/character modifications are fun but shallow in the sense of having little to no impact on gameplay, however the track modification is amazing and truly something you could lose yourself in for hours if you're into that kind of thing.
