Has anyone played this yet? My wife and I have been pretty excited for it and watched the GameTrailers.com review of it and it got like a 7.4. Though I don't always let GT.com affect my game buying, I want second opinions of those who have played it already. I played the demo and thought it was pretty sick, but like I said, just want second opinions.
I suppose contrasting opinions are just as valuable... from my time spent with the beta/demo I've come to regard it as a merely average kart racer. The customization is nice and they've obviously gone for an LBP-style vibe with it, but so much of it is merely cosmetic, and the race tracks can never be as varied and interesting as LBP's custom levels were. Underneath the hype of being able to create and share, the actual playing portion of the game isn't anything worth writing home about. It'll be a good one for the family, especially if there are younger kids around. Not so much for the rest of us.
If only we could somehow get Trackmania... well, us 360 users at least. You PS3 boys can stay with your shitload of exclusives.
I actually agree. As usual with PSP racers, I'm also finding the controls very annoying -- I'm not big on the d-pad, and the thumbstick isn't precise enough. Besides the massive customization, I'm just not finding enough new here to justify a purchase.
Love the game demo, made a pretty exciting track even with limited tools. The actual game mechanics are great, unlike LittleBigPlanet where the platforming wasn't fun. Drifting up spirals while firing rockets is a blast. Only big problem is the aggravating loading.
I actually would be getting this one for the PS3 =) But thanks for the opinions so far guys. I too have found that while customizing tracks and racers is awesome, the actual racing portion is a little... average. And while it does go for the LBP-esque style, it will never be able to come anywhere near close to the charm.
I was in the early beta when the game was almost unplayable. I tried the demo when it came out and thought it was okay. My kids seemed to like it but had trouble with the gas being on R2. I am guessing it is still this way in the full release, so at most i may rent it.
Agreed, except I found the controls frustrating, so I don't know if younger kids would enjoy this much. What other PSP racers have you tried? The PSP has no problems with most of the racers I've tried.
I didn't think the controls were all that bad. I mean the easiest controls for a racer I have played were the duel-stick movement of Midnight Club: LA but I expected a kart racer to be a bit different. Shame there is no option to change the defaul controls though, or is there? Like an X to go and L2 to drift and R2 to shoot (or something of that nature).
I should have been more specific, I was talking about the PSP's controls. The PS3's controls weren't bad at all, the game still though wasn't very good. If you're looking for a decent Mario Kart type racer, then I'd say go with Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing. The actual kart racing part of Mod is very very average, it's big selling point it is the creation portion of the game. So if that's what you're looking for(over an actual great kart racer), then it's a good buy.
I am huge on level creation as I enjoyed it with LBP. Now I know the level creator won't come anywhere near LBP but I am sure to have fun with it. Then me and my wife get to test the tracks. I mainly wanted a game me and my wife could play together, we are burnt out on Mario Kart, and she's a pretty casual player. With the execption of God of War, which she is pretty good at lol. We both love racers and just wanted to get into a decent kart racing game ya know?
Yeah I know, wish I could get my wife to play games If you ever get the chance, download the demo to the Sonic kart racing game I mentioned. I think you might be surprised.
Yeah it's awesome that she likes to play games here and there. She's big on iPod touch puzzle games the most but she dabbles with consoles and the Wii a good amount too. Ever played House of the Dead on the Wii? That game is crack and it's easy for the females who don't play games much. Just a suggestion. If you have a Wii that is. Is that Sonic Racing game on PS3? I have a 360 but my wife is anti 360 controller ahhahaahaha
I'm pretty sure the demo is on both 360 and PS3, I got it on the PS3. Played the demo for weeks until I finally caved in and bought it.
yes it's a very fun game and so is Blur. Blur has that COD leveling up progression and unlocks along with a prestige mode called legend mode. It's awesome. But Modnation is basically LBP on wheels.
Pre-ordered from Amazon and still waiting for it to ship to my house PS: FYI LBP2 is gonna be awesome
I despised Blur with a passion. A passionate passion. It's near impossible to be in the top 3 AND survive the constant barrage of attacks.
Despite my previous post sounding slightly negative, I bought the game (Blur put me in a karting mood) and it's not too bad. The AI in career mode is absolutely brutal, but the online stuff is awesome. Track creation is far more in-depth than I thought it would be, and that... is why I am here.
