A couple of things: this shouldn't be a MC:S vs Eliminate issue. They each provide a different experience and should easily coexist. I know many people who prefer the fast pace of Unreal Tournament over the tactical pace of CoD and vice-versa -- same can happen on the iPhone. Also, for many people the issue is not server ramp-up, or managing capacity: all that we expect with a new online multiplayer platform. It seems pretty clear that the server infrastructure is based on a particular local router set up, which is pretty much insane on a mobile platform. It's not a matter of running on 3G or WiFi, it's a matter of creating an infrastructure that can handle pretty much every WiFi set up, so that you can take your device on the road and play wherever you have Internet access. Whether you like Eliminate-style multiplayer or not, you have to admire the effort they've placed in designing their infrastructure for on-the-go gaming. Well, it's Sunday right now; the update came out on Saturday. I expect to hear an announcement from Gameloft by Monday -- I'll hold out that long before I make up my mind about the whole affair.
well some people here use products.. not to mention that the extreme has amazing range.. Im amazed that they would cripple the multiplayer so that it WONT work on a router, when its an idevice... I dont like the Quake or Unreal engine or any of them, it feels like your on roller skates
he was using a pic of an apple- probably using the emocon app on the idevice which does not show on websites
Just some input from someone that used to be a network technician for a few years... UPnP is satan, and should NOT be relied upon in the slightest. Very, VERY poor on Gameloft for making it UPnP or bust. It's very common for UPnP to completely fail because the software can't detect the IP address of your router. It's supposed to be a method of programs automatically assigning open ports to your device (Laptop, iDevice, games console, anything) so that you don't need to manually log into your router and start mapping ports through yourself, and so people can directly connect to you. You do NOT need UPnP enabled to connect to another device. A very very easy fix for this issue would be to let you join other people's games but not host your own, you'd be sorted. To completely stop you from playing online because it can't automatically map ports through is completely ridiculous. Even if you have UPnP enabled on your router, it's still absolutely no guarantee it'll work and is renouned for being hideously unreliable.
Yep, I have enabled and disabled and enabled without any luck I don't understand why Gameloft chose to do it this way - online mp on Asphalt 5 works so well.
lol, no its actually the apple symbol, on my laptop... im guessing windows doesnt have support for it or something
I played the maps when I hosted a local game... they seem awesome, too bad Gameloft has left everyone else to rot with this
