Its just a rough ride right now, I'm sure everything will get sorted out soon It's the weekend, so we have no word on what is going on because the devs are out of the office
Simply because pre release codes are given out a lot, and this happening is quite rare. Plus, this was a mistake - GL may well have thought this would happen - but they didn't want codes being given out until launch day anyway. Can we draw a line under this until tomorrow when they get back in and sort it? Kay thanks bye
Ye you obviously took them by yourself. I just saw your name on a well known piracy site where you thanked the op for sharing the cracked version of the game.
Just saw the same (was intrigued to see how easy it would be to get it, and a quick google for the appropriate words is all it took ) at the very least he is posting screenshots in the thread on a site were you can download this game illegally. Very dumb thing to post in a thread were we are all against what has happened, screenshots that look very suspiciously like you acquired yourself from the cracked version. Sigh...
Hmm. So apparently guns are formatted in tiers. The higher the tier, the better the gun is. I personally think that is a mistake and the devs should address it once this whole situation is stabilized. What do you guys think? I think its going to offset the balance & now theres no reason to go back to older guns.
Firstly just how do you know this cracked version is for Android? And secondly just how do you steal an APK of a game from the Google store when it hasn't ever been released on the store yet, and thirdly iOS has just as many if not more cracked games on it, all you need to is jailbreak your device to play them is it not?
I'm sure I said it earlier on but always online is not exactly the same as a common DRM tool. It is a form of it, yes, but DRM tools and always online operate slightly differently. Also, in response to it being said to just release it now because of this mess, I made the point that they are pre release and that releasing now wasn't an option, or at least an easy option because some things have to be finished on the other side. Now because always online uses a form of app verification tool for it to function fully, it needs to be operating on both the app side and the server side. Now as it worked perfectly well for TASM 2 and because we know this case was pre release, it's pretty safe to assume that one of the tools that is not up there yet is the server side of the verification. Which wouldn't be a surprise considering its not in release and those promo codes weren't meant to be given out yet. It'd actually be perfectly normal because it would normally be only journalists that would have it now and well, they can be trusted. And ultimately, this whole thing just proves how necessary some kind of DRM protection is. Anybody who claims piracy isn't too bad or that people will buy it anyway, well this without doubt just proves how utterly insidious and widespread piracy actually is. I won't quote direst numbers but the illegal downloads of this are being tracked and I am horrified by how high they have gotten. Yes, being pre release has contributed to the numbers but you know what, they are still phenomenally high and represent a huge loss in revenue. And before someone uses that old chestnut that they wouldn't have bought it anyway so no loss of revenue, that's complete rubbish. They actually represent those that should/would be buying it in this case. And that's why an across the board ban for every single one of them, both the iTunes leakers and the crackers is exactly what needs to happen.
Android just has a bad rep because well its a lot easy to pirate apps then iOS, because android is open source it allowed there users to support devs that are not connected to the play store. It also allows anyone to create a app, which as you can imagine can be great or dangerous. Its people that download apks illegally that ruin it for the whole android community. That's why there are so many great IOS exclusives, because devs don't want to be ripped off. so basicly I think it went something like Bob got a free copy of the game he won early on accident, Bob tells his friend Jake about it and Jake asks for the game, Bob gives his friend Jake the game. Jake then uploads the apk and files to the web, which is then downloaded by a gray or black hat hacker who cracks the game aka takes away the security and verification checks, uploads it again and boom we are here.
Okay so there definitely is a DRM protection integrated (you mentioned a unique app ID, which would be the same as in TASM2 that's why I tought it will work this way), BUT the server isn't ready to check this, right? Sry, I'm a bit confused today...and the last days However, we will see what will happen. Would be freaking lame if resetting the stats from players who have downloaded the cracked version would be the only punishment. Again, thanks for the headsup Rip.
Well, I'd reluctantly call it DRM because DRM built in tools and server verification are not exactly the same thing despite the perception that they are. They serve the same purpose but use slightly different methods. I'd rather not explain it fully for obvious reasons but think of it like a phone call, there needs to be someone on the other end for a conversation to take place. Think of the person on the other end as the server side authentication. In this case you're getting through and, let's say, leaving a message. So it's still a connected phone call. So take it next week when it officially launches, someone will be answering that phone call all the time. Those that have it by illegitimate means will get a busy signal and there will be no call waiting. Those that have it legitimately will be having a conversation. I know that's not the simplest or most thorough analogy but it gives an idea of the concept.
Does anyone know what the rewards will be for the squad events and stuff. I'm thinking a xp boost or something like that.
DRM protection is useless when a proper crack is used... If the crack properly signs the App then the DRM is useless. If the app does not have digital Signature, then the DRM will work. Just Because the app has DRM does not mean it has the technology to correctly identify the use of a crack...
What are you talking about, Ios has just as much piracy as android regardless of android being open source. This game is being pirated on ios as we speak and the game has not even been released yet. So lets not start a ios vs android debate
how was I trying to start a debate? If if you would have checked to see who comment was directed toward you would have seen I was answering a question. and if you knew anything about IOS and android you would know that IOS is not open source and you would have to jailbreak your device to download apps from other sources. The people that pirated the game on IOS just signed in to someone else's account and downloaded it to there device mean while on android people were just able to download the game and files from the web without jail breaking or "rooting" there device
Disappointing to see this one has leaked early, can't believe people still pirate apps that cost a fiver. How many of these people creating videos on Youtube with hacked copies will buy it legitimately? I'd wager not many.
