Ah, 'twas a mistake by one of the regional offices. They sent it out to some who won a competition for a promo code too early basically. They were not meant to go out until launch day and the majority of people who won promo codes won't receive them until launch day. But a regional office basically made a mistake, sent em out to a few people and some of those people thought it would be a great idea to share their iTunes password with a few buddies. A few buddies decided it would be a good idea to share that on with their buddies and then it just snow balled. Then somebody thought it would be clever to post the iTunes account online somewhere that I'm not going to mention. Then loads of youtubers decided to download it and link it and on and on it went. And then some smart ass who downloaded it that way thought it'd be a great idea to crack it and load it up. 'Tis all a bit ridiculous really because it stemmed from what on the face of it was a very small mistake from a regional office that spiralled completely out of control because some guy decided that sharing his iTunes password after winning a code was good idea. If it wasn't so serious, it'd be laughable.
I hope these leaks, don't discourage Gameloft, nor harshly hurt their bottom line. I don't want to speak for others, but this game is exactly what I've wanted. A truly premium game. No IAP, no money grab. No inequality. Everyone has to play the game, and earn weapons etc. I applaud gameloft, and hope this does not discourage future premium releases. Also, I'm hoping to see pirates banned. Not reset. Just my 2 cents.
What's even more pathetic is that now Gameloft'll probably think twice before holding contests like these again.
At this rate gameloft is going to lose out on a shitload of money!! Best thing they can do right now is release it asap instead of waiting till wednesday!
Well credit were credit is due, in the end your saying its Gameloft fault? What a disappointment, it seems like every step of the way this game has had numerous hickups. Now we the good guys, the customers fell like were getting screwed
Well, not quite. Yes a mistake was made, no doubt but it was a good faith mistake. I've gotten lots of pre release codes well in advance of releases from numerous developers and never once felt an urge to share my account details with buddies or otherwise because there is an act of faith agreement in place that one would obviously not do that. However one guy broke that act of faith and the whole thing spiralled out of control. The only mistake made by Gameloft was one regional office gave the code too early because their intent was to give them out on launch day. In the vast majority of cases, this wouldn't even matter because we all know better than to give out our iTunes passwords to the bloody Internet or even to share them with anybody. And we all do agree not to share stuff we shouldn't when we get those codes. Many times, too many to even come up with a number, promo codes have been given early, some times weeks in advance and there's never been a problem. Unfortunately in this case, one of those people lucky enough to win a promo code did completely the wrong thing and created a huge problem. Ultimately the blame lies with that person, not Gameloft. And Billy, I thought the same thing as yourself. I'm not so sure now because there are a couple of small things to be put in place on the server side and if they are not quite ready, it could lead to bigger problems and worse reaction. At this stage the best thing is do a reset and ban those that need to be.
That's what they are trying to do. But it is the week end, people are off, away, etc., it's just not as easy to get it done as quickly as one would like. Decisions have to be made and a course of action determined and its best not to rush in to these things without thinking. In the end, the right thing will be done.
Hey guys. Gameloft will be livestreaming tomorrow at 1pm cst, 2pm est, 11am pst. MC5 gameplay along with Ryan answering some questions so you guys can ask him about the whole MC5 mess at the moment. They will be live tomorrow here: http://www.twitch.tv/gameloft
No Vehicles No Voice Chat No Destructable Environments Modern Combat 4.5 p.s. god, I wish gameloft had competition !
Well all in all, I hope Gameloft gets everything sorted out. Its a shame to see these things happen, especially to the beloved Gameloft. They have a great fan base & to see a small, but good chunk, of their "fans" turn on them is just sad. I wish them the best.
Sigh... Yes technically it was, but as Rip said getting an early release code is nothing new, I have had several (never as high profile as MC though) as have many people on the forums here. But we all know that it's just not the done thing to share the game around. This is a case of a small mistake, followed by a bad decision, followed by more bad decisions snowballing... I for one am going to be glad to buy this game and support GL, and I hope that other people do to. Isn't this what we have all been clamouring for, premium game with no IAP's??? (On a side note, I would hate to have to change my iTunes password, I would never remember a new one!) Have you forgotten what this game is playable on? Your frikin' phone. You know that thing that could only play Snake 10* years ago. *roughly
ok i understand how sad it is for gameloft that the game leaked but lets not turn the thread into piracy and people's mind BS. plus HOW STUPID can one be to think gameloft didn't expect this?! they gave out free pre-release copies knowing EXACTLY that this would happen. just how the hell would such a thing not happen? who would be naive enough to think that out of all the early users. no one would share a copy? stop complaining while even gameloft themself aren't (which would be rather dumb to do).
Okay, so people who are playing the cracked version aren't reporting any troubles about any DRM. How it comes? I tought it has DRM but obviously it hasnt or it is already bypassed. Sry, I don't want to talk about piracy either but then, I just want to know why this is happening.
Hmm, ye I've read your posts but...didn't get it? :/ Spiderman 2 had DRM protection (app validation) right at the beginning of the game. Tought it's the same which got used in MC5? If so, the pirated version shouldnt even start. Look, I just don't want to get this game filled with IAP's later on because it is easily piratable. This just sucks.
