If the always-on DRM isn't enough to tell the difference between a legal and a illegal copy, what makes people think that it will be enough to do the same with hacks?

Also, damn, that guy really hates GL.

Always online DRM: In the end the people who bought the game legally are the ones that get shafted.

And just to stress the point, the matter will be dealt with.

A decision will be made on Monday.
Obviously the pirates, or attempted pirates, will simply be banned. No discussion, no take backs.

Those that downloaded through iTunes account belonging to another person will either be banned or reset.

Its a grey area legally but it does breach many terms and conditions of Apple and Gameloft so there is certainly going to be repercussions of some nature for them.
A reset seems very likely at this stage and a ban to go along with it if it can be legally justified. Which I sincerely hope it can.

Also there is the potential to have their iTunes accounts banned and wiped if Apple decides to (and they just might) due to the breach of terms and conditions there. And those terms and conditions are legally binding.

So expect the issue to be resolved pretty quickly on Monday and for those that deserve punishment, to get their just desserts.

    Not exactly.
I'm going to drop the DRM part and just use always online.
Always online is allowing the ability to detect all of these legitimate/illegitimate downloads. They have been detected already. Its a simple as that.
The only thing left is to decide whether to just ban all of them or to give those that used that guys iTunes account the benefit of the doubt that they will download legitimately on update and just reset them.
I'd imagine if an update is going to take too long or can't be expedited (which it probably would be if one is ready), they'll just be banned.
That is what always online allows and is currently in process.
So, no, those that get it legitimately at launch won't actually be getting shafted.
Those that manipulated the system and got it illegitimately, they will be getting shafted. And justifiably so.

Finally, people are somewhat missing the point of always online. It allows for detection. That detection allows for banning and blocking and preventative measures for the future.
It's not the same thing as DRM tools in the past. Similar but not exactly the same methods or tools.
In this case (and most others), its a detection tool that allows for appropriate measures to be taken.

    Now I'm confused :/

And how you guys know all about who leaked or pirated it? :O
I tought it has DRM but ppl are playing the cracked version already? Dang, I've missed the name of this guy but now it's removed. I'm sooooo curious D':

I doubt they can do anything about account sharing. People doing that since years without anything to happen. Okay might be another case with an non released game, not sure but I guess as long as there werent any NDA's signed they can't be punished.

    Well said rip.

You can use your GameCenter name or you can change it to whatever you want. MC5 runs on its own server (It only uses GC for the login and friends), so you don't have to use your GC name but you could if you wanted

Yeah it has DRM, but I'm sure they did not expect this so early and no one works during the weekends.

They probably can't do anything about it in general, but I'm sure they can do something about the kid who leaked out his info recently considering they most likely know his info.

Thanks.:) and to you as well Oscar.

Obviously my anti piracy stance is hammering through along with my current discontent with this whole scenario but I just can't help it, I do hate piracy and any illegitimate means by which people rob developers.
I didn't wording myself well because of it, so thanks a lot.

I noticed someone mentioned they couldn't do anything about account sharing.
In reality they can. Account sharing is not allowed by Gamelofts terms and conditions.
It also is not allowed by Apples terms and conditions except in family accounts.
I doubt that guy had over 1000 people in his family.

So when you download an app or agree to Apples terms and conditions, you are essentially making a legally binding agreement. And that can most certainly be enforced and measures can be taken. It's just a matter of deciding what measures to take but a range from the very severe legal action type to simply banning is most certainly on the table.

On that note, I'll leave the matter there and get back to looking forward to playing with the you guys and our squads on Thursday. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

    Oops, sorry. :)
I saw the quoted line in Oscars post and I didn't see a name so I wasn't sure of it was yours or not.
    The impact of weariness.

@tahzblade. Don't worry man, it will. Steps are in hand.

An unofficial Gameloft community feed account tweeted that they will reset the accounts at launch. Any official confirmation?

A decision will be made on Monday as to whether its a ban or a reset.
It'll be one or the other. Possibly both.
No official word on which yet and there won't be until Monday.
I would naturally enough expect a reset but it's not a straightforward exercise.

Does anyone know who initially leaked the game? I want to know so I know never to support him again.
Seriously though, the game is out in 4 days. You'd break the law so you can play the game 4 days earlier? That's just stupid.

    Yes.
The person/persons who shared their iTunes passwords (which are now changed) and the person who cracked one of those is known.
There's no real need to know any more.
Those that need to, do already.
They were never people any of us here supported anyway. Or even knew existed.
Once they get what they deserve, they'll just slip back into obscurity.

You and me both. This one has been a big ask.

Then why did this individual get a early copy to begin with? I'm just curious.
