E3 2014 hands on preview: Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel all credits goes to Connector and Gameloft Ryan.
Ok, so I'm back from E3 and working on catching up on forums! Thanks for the patience folks! That is correct, we will not be using Gameloft Live! AFAIK. We are moving away from that service and relying on social logins and native platform systems like Game Center, Google Play Game Services, etc.. $6.99 for sure at launch! Sorry, I had some Internet issues back at my hotel after the conference so exporting videos ended up being a bit of a hassle. In case you missed any of the footage, you can check out the full E3 playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRkL_lsadcJgpnilGeGV-twiwdRUBkPGb&feature=mh_lolz Yeah, it's really cool actually! Each region is looking into advertising on TV and it's neat. The only real news I was given for E3 was the price point: $6.99USD I'm sowwy ): It's coming. Soon(TM) That was a slight miscommunication during the Dev stream. I'm really sorry for that! Modern Combat 5 is not being developed here in San Francisco. I totally wish it was though!
Close. But not quite. All the product and project management decisions are being made in the France HQ. But the development of the game itself is being done by the team in Bucharest.
I saw the latest uploads from you Ryan and have to say the game is looking more solid than before, graphics in particular look great.
@Ryan You said a miscommunication between yourself and the devs resulted in a lack of a release date, does that mean there isn't a release date yet or it hasn't been announced.
That's not quite what he meant. What he meant was that there was miscommunication during the very first live streams of the game that were done from Paris by the dev team. The interpretation was that a release date would be given at E3. Due to the high volume of comments and questions on the stream, their intent of saying more information would come at E3 was miscommunicated as a release date would be announced then. Of course it looked very much like that's what they said but that was where the miscommunication part came in. Lots of comments ended up with some confusion as to what was being asked and what was being answered and what they had hoped for. At the time of that dev stream, no date was set or envisioned at that stage and it was more of a hope to have it determined by E3. That has not turned out to be the case and as of E3, it still had not been decided as the build that was at E3 was still a development build, albeit very complete but with some more to be done. As of right now a date has not yet been set beyond Summer, now to early September as a definitive timeline. Don't take that to mean it will be September though. The indicators still show signs of much sooner than that as it is showing signs of being essentially complete and is most likely just waiting for server tests, sign off on a Gold final build (subject to passing server tests), submission, approval and then final marketing incorporating launch date. But then again, its development, so a lot can change very quickly, so here's hoping it passes all the tests and we get it soon. Er.
The price is definite and confirmed. $6.99 (US store price so whatever variation of that price point tier it is in one's own international stores). Also, a useful article that gives some degree of an insight in to how seriously they are taking anti hack measures (very seriously for those that skip the article) and the role always online (amongst one of many measures) plays in that. http://www.polygon.com/2014/6/13/5807582/modern-combat-5-dev-cheating-in-online-games-just-as-much-a-problem
So I'm assuming the always-online is there because of the unified progress system with single player and multiplayer, then. People could easily mess with their single-player progress which can affect their online progress and ruin other people's enjoyment of the game. I suppose, in that aspect, I don't completely disagree with the use of an always-online system. I don't like that they are using it, but I don't completely disagree with it either Just to add on though, whilst this could work in stopping pirates and hackers in the short term, what about in a longer term (say 2-3 years)? Is the system to find the hackers going to still be at a good enough capacity to go through all of the players then? Will hackers have managed to find a way to bypass the system? Of course that last point does depend on whether people would still be willing to report hackers and whether their reports are going to be met. I will say hackers are going to find a way to bypass the system, and the length of time they will be able to get away with it is going to increase as the game's life cycle gets further along. I suppose it would be best to go "Oh, we'll sort it out once we get to that point", but it's always better to plan before that point. Sure, the always-online system could end up working at release, but there will be a point in the future where hackers are still going to find a way past it. If hackers find a way to get around the system, will the folks at Gameloft be able to handle it, or would they have already moved on from this game? Modern Combat 5 may be a big unit pusher for Gameloft now, but it's not going to have that same strength in a couple of years time and Gameloft may want to decrease the amount of people working on it and put them on more active products I'm probably exaggerating things though
I doubt AO will prevent hacking or cheating in onpine games as such,It might disable hacking the game in sp mode but mp might go unaffected. I mean if AO would prevent hacking then it would have stopped a long time ago wouldn't it?All mp games are always online so I don't really get how it will affect MP game.Maybe It will make a change who knows? We'll have to wait and see I guess.
Neither! But you're getting closer... Closer.... Bingo. That's great to hear! I've spent a good amount of time with the campaign mode now and I might be biased, but I think the game is going to be incredibly solid. I wasn't given a release date to share publicly. As Rip said, it boiled down to some confusion based on what was said during the Dev stream which lead to people believing we would be sharing a release date at E3. I'm confident that information will be shared later on when the Dev team is ready to announce it though $6.99 is 110% confirmed for the launch price. Posted about it a little earlier, but just wanted to say it again. Correct, we want to make sure we can provide a level playing field for players since progress and unlocks are shared between SP and MP. We will definitely be proactive if any hacking efforts pop up throughout the lifetime of the game.
Well, f!ck me! I just bought a WiFi iPad Air, because I never needed the mobile network on my iPad 3 and it just ate the battery.
If you own an iphone and an iPad and have a data plan with at least 5 gb then you can use your iphone as a hotspot for your ipad, it doesn't cost any extra
So what happens when this game becomes old and no longer connects to the online servers? Does that mean it just becomes a loss of money and time? Or will always online DRM eventually be removed?
