Gameloft UK blog with some multiplayer and squad based details. http://blog.gameloft.com/uk/index.php/2014/05/29/4651/ (Sorry Ryan UK timezone beat you to the punch) (Ryan will have details on US blog as well later on)
The squad thing looks... ok? I don't know, I just don't care about who I play with in this kind of games. I guess it will be good for tourneys though. Other than that, unless something big is revealed at E3, everything I've heard this far about this game was a major letdown. Just 4 (old) modes? And still 6 vs 6? I rather play MC4.
You're missing out on the key words, "at release". Naturally enough more modes will be added but it is still time to get the game out whether the additional modes are ready for inclusion or not. And besides that, adding the extra modes over time will give more longevity to the game and give something to look forward to in updates. And better assurance that they will be ready and right once they get added. 6vs6 is not going to change though for technical and performance reasons and because 12 players is still widely considered the optimum number for a mobile game. And naturally enough E3 will have a lot more detail and bigger announcements including plans for updates that will only better the game.
Is there any info on whether the "add player to party" feature from mc4 (which is now horribly horribly broken shudder) will also be in mc5? Or is the only way to make sure you're in a match with your friends the squad feature? (Also how big/small can the squads be?, or is it a set size?)
Sorry, the only solid confirmable info is what's on that page for now. Anything else would just be speculation or stuff they don't want revealed. Sorry bout that. But it would appear as though the squad would be the best way to play with friends. It is primarily designed for clans and the like but if the "play with friends" option is not there at release (and I'm not saying it won't be, I just don't know for sure), it would be a good alternative and of more use for the time limited events part due to rewards they will give. On the set size, I'm unaware of any limitation there but obviously the minimum would have to be 2. I'd guess there is an upper limit in order to keep it fair but whether its 6 or higher, I just don't know yet. But based off the clan like nature of it, I would guess higher is a possibility. Don't take that as solid though because I'm sure its in flux at the moment and there is fairness considerations to be taken in to account so as to limit certain teams from dominating certain leaderboards.
Ooh Nice I hope they reveal new info this week though, I want this game so bad!! Battleheart has been keeping me busy in the meantime though
Just wanted to pop in here and say Hi! It's been a while since I've been on TA forums. MC5 is looking pretty stupid right now. Don't expect any surprises from Gameloft. I'd say Battleheart is a better game as a whole (and it's made by a two people). Whereas Gameloft, an entire studio, committed to a game cannot surprise me. Gameloft just fail when it comes to creativity and originality. They are just so focused on media/marketing techniques (like new features, graphics etc) and don't give a crap about how the game runs and feels in the hand. And let's not forget those awfully ugly crosshairs... Makes me puke. Anyway I'll leave it there, I could talk all day about how Gameloft is a rubbish company.
I heard the game was 60fps on iphone 5s and 30 on iphone 5. Hopefully they make it 60fps on iphone 5!!!
I wouldn't think that is correct. In the majority of cases, Gameloft locks their games at 30fps and I've heard nothing to contradict that in this case. It might be part of what they reveal at E3 but I doubt it at the moment. They have demonstrated confidence in frame rates and lack of "lag" in this one already but if they were going to break their normal pattern of locking to 30, I reckon that would have been said already. Getting 60fps out of this one would be a pretty ambitious as well so I'd be fairly confident they would err on the side of caution and stick with 30.
I don't know how many people make IAP's in the game but I certainly don't think it's a small percentage with a higher income. And you can hardly compare BF and COD on consoles or PC to Modern Combat, plus MC gets hacked like crazy and this is an effort to stop this, and it's an effort to stop people pirating the game which is no doubt part of the reason the game has no IAP's and I'm comfortable with that.
So, uh.. How smooth do you think this game will run on A5 devices? Scale of 1 to 10. Anybody? I'm playing on an iPod Touch 5th Gen, btw.
That at least didn't break my spirit. I know I won't get as much fx as A6, A7, and M7 devices, but I'll be good. Thanks!
Squads can be "up to" six people. So it looks like it can be lower but six is the upper limit. I don't know yet if you can join more than one squad. I'd imagine its unlikely but you never know. Its something that would be useful though if you have a lot of friends but could cause leaderboard problems so will have to wait and see. The squad is the people who will be on your team when playing multiplayer rather than random others. Of course assuming they are online at the same time, if not you will get random others to fill the team. I'd choose wisely as well because a well oiled team combined with chat will be difficult to beat. And it does look like it might be the method used to play with friends rather than the old method which didn't work so well. Another screenshot.
Thanks Rip for all your useful info in this thread. (Anyone else think he must be a mole at Gameloft, he seems to have more info that GL Ryan )
Cheers for letting me/us know! I'm actually quite optimistic about this, I think it could work really well. Also (forgive me if this is really obvious, I'm not too familiar with how this works) are we likely to see any multiplayer footage at e3 or any time before release?
