The absence if IAP is astounding, the displayed health is an issue. If I had to choose between the two though...

If there really is no iAP... THANK YOU GAMELOFT! I could care less about always online if it really has no iAP. This is such good news!

Woah, I haven't seen you forever!

    And yeah, completely agree.

I don't care much about visible health either because Battlefield has it. And Warface. And most FPSs

I believe you have it a little wrong there. After someone kills you there will be the death cam like in the other games. This will show the killer's health percentage & other stats, similar to the Battlefield franchise. I don't think there will actually be a health bar/percentage by the players names at all times.

I don't know how the visible health bar will translate, it's in BF and in my experiances there hasn't really been any problem with it.
Also, good to know that the game is releasing in the summer, it's awesome that gameloft is providing information about the game instead of leaving us in the dark.

gotta give props for that "NO IAP" thing. looks like they finally got back some balls. in a way it confirms that the online only feature is not just an excuz and somehow makes me a bit more receptive to that. too bad the singleplayer will be this weird (imo) but it sounds like this is gonna be their best multiplayer game. really i was expecting a FAR MORE TERRIBLE paying model seing just how good the amazing IAPman 2 is doing on appstore.

So this is going to be paid for either by being charged per episode of the game you download, or they are going to charge a very high premium price perhaps like Square Enix do. Or maybe they will only charge the same as the previous Modern Combat games?

  10. No in-apps...ok, this multiplayer could be quite nice

But knowing recent Gameloft apps, this is probably gonna require iOS 7 ...*sigh* back to Modern Combat 4 then

    Please prove me wrong, someone...

Oh yeah, this is Gameloft: they are insane.
MC5=a great big fat FAIL right out of the gate.

    iOS 7.0 is a requirement.

Actually it makes the most sense of any in this one.
For one, the security on this is heavily beefed up so we can expect to see no skill hackers with speed hacks or that kind if thing and even if ones get through, they will be banned on the server side.
    And that is a definite.

Also, if it gets pirated, not all the content is directly downloaded off the App Store.
It's an 800mb installed download from the App Store side. It goes up to a full install of just under 2gbwith the full game content and maps installed.
The rest of the maps are auto downloads as you progress that won't get downloaded unless there is a receipt certificate on your build.
Which the pirates will not have because they will have removed the drm.
Therefore pirates will have access to very little of the game.

And as the game is a full premium game with no iap, this is one of the occasions where it is justified for always online in order to prevent piracy and believe me the way its set up, if and when it gets pirated, they will have the barest of access because of no certificate so no downloadable content.
So they can pirate away, they still won't have the full game.

The online checks and having the game download the maps afterwards is an essential part of the security, but it's still only a small part.
The fact that it has no iap makes the online essential because otherwise they have no chance of a return at a nearly 90% piracy rates. And those piracy rates are accurate before any one asks.

So you can consider it an epic fail all you want but people have been screaming out for premium and games with no iap and this is the cost of it.
And no it's not the developers that are to blame. It's those that thinks its okay to pirate that are to blame.

And if online only is the cost that has to be paid for premium games with no iap and multiplayer with no hackers, its a cost I'm perfectly happy to bear.
Its much better than a freemium iap packed game that the whales have to pay in to for it to make a return.

What would actually be insane is to release this no iap game without the set up they have in place which both limits what content pirated copies will be able to get to and ensures a secure multiplayer experience.
And if people are questioning whether multiplayer will be secure or not, it has been heavily, and I mean heavily, stressed about hackers ruining other games in the series not happening here. They have extensive security measures that will be continuously updated as each hack appears and is detected on the server side. And many will be getting banned.

It is the type of revenue setup game people have been looking for but the developer has to ensure they can make a return on it and not lose all that to pirates and hackers.

If you disagree and it fails, get even more used to freemium and heavy paywalls because this might well be our last chance to see a pay model of its kind.
The choice is yours now and what people want to see in relation to pay structures is totally up to them at this stage.

If you want to reject the game for its online only over freemium and paywalls, well then just ignore this game, let the whales pay for all your other paywall/timer loaded freemium stuff and continue to get frustrated with paywalls, timers and iap pushes.
Just remember, if you make that choice, you will be in no position to complain about iap or freemium in the future.

If you want premium with no iap, well then ye better start showing some support because I genuinely believe this is the last chance we have to show this pay model some support and it is a huge risk by Gameloft, a seriously huge and expensive gamble on their part because its the pay model people have asked for and if it doesn't pay off and get supported, it is obvious what the result will be.

The choice is all in ye're hands now.

I really don't see the problem with online only... I mean it's not like people really play the offline most of the time anyway (or do they?), since the campaign is the only thing really to do offline... In which case you can just do the campaign when you have Internet connection but the game is mainly made for online anyway which obviously always required Internet...

The kill cams are like the previous games, practically a death cam.

People misinterpreted what the producer said when he said "There will be kill cams... In the single player and multiplayer" and a couple of seconds later, after people got excited, he said "like in the previous Modern Combats". Most people didn't seem to hear that apparently lol. Just expect the slow mo kill cams in single player and the kill cams like in the previous MC's multiplayer

Kill cams? You mean the thing where it has a dark red camera on the floor which turns to face and follow the person who kills you? Why is that even being commented on it's such an insignificant part of the game? How can they claim that to be a killcam in anyway

Not very 'mobile' now for a game that requires constant internet connection.

Also who cares if people cheat in the singleplayer portions of games? (Doesn't apply as much to MC5, but to games like Spider Man)
Remember when cheats were a feature, not a bug?

They said that what you do in singleplayer is crossed over to multiplayer, as in when you level up in singleplayer you level up in multiplayer. This is probably why they want constant online

Whines about how awful the single player looks,
Whines about how they won't be able to play the single player...
