Bragging rights, titles, etc. Battlefield 3 doesn't limit your unlocks to your rank, just specializations and all-class weaponry.
I hated the ranking up system... I was never able to try out the throwing knife or revolver or the last sniper because I didn't play it enough. This way you play a few matches can try out whichever weapon. As long as it doesn't take me more that 15 or so games to get a new gun I'll be happy about it.
I'm worried about the fact that although SUPPOSEDLY all guns are equal, some are much more than others, suggesting that some guns are better than others/ easier to use. Same with other things. Specializations will hopefully, as well as skill, make the difference.
The iPod 5 and iPad 3 are the weaker implementations of the A5 so it isn't surprising they have more performance difficulties. The iPod 5 has it's A5 clocked at 800MHz CPU/200MHz GPU, the same as the iPhone 4S, while it's driving 18% more pixels. In an existing game like NOVA3, the iPod 5 is just using the same code path with the same effects/assets as the iPhone 4S but is outputting a higher resolution which is where the frame-rate drops are coming from. Hopefully newer games that start development after the iPod 5 is released will put the effort into having a separate codepath for the iPod 5 that is optimized for 30 fps at 1136x640 rather than 30 fps at 960x640 as in the iPhone 4S. The iPad 3 is the lowest performing A5 variant. It doubled the GPU performance over the iPad 2 while increasing the resolution by 4x, so at native resolution, there's only half the GPU power per pixel. To maintain the same 30 fps as the iPad 2, developers either use sub-native resolution while keeping the same graphical effects or run at native resolution and turn down the graphical effects. The bulk of the A5 variant device installed base are the iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and now iPad Mini which are actually very homogenous in terms of GPU power relative to resolution. The iPhone 4S has a 200MHz SGX543MP2 with a 960x480 resolution while the iPad 2/Mini has a 250MHz SGX543MP2 with a 1024x768 resolution. A 25% increase in GPU power to match a 28% increase in resolution making things a wash and keeps the iPhone 4S/iPad 2/iPad Mini as one big development target with a large installed base GPU-wise. Performance issues with the iPod 5 and the iPad 3 in particular, aren't the best way to generalize that the A5 family in general is severely underpowered. And the iPad 4 isn't some performance fiend GPU-wise either. The GPU in the A6X is 2x faster than the iPad 3's A5X, but given the iPad 3 had a performance deficit at native resolution relative to the iPad 2, the A6X actually isn't a huge performance leap at native resolution over the A5 in the iPad 2. Assuming you're running at native resolution, if you're saying the A5 in the iPad 2/iPad Mini is underpowered GPU-wise, the A6X in the iPad 4 is likely to be underpowered GPU-wise as well since the 4x performance increase is eaten up by the 4x increase in resolution. Only the A6 in the iPhone 5 stands out in the crowd GPU-wise ahead of the iPhone 4S/iPad 2/iPad Mini/iPad 4 since GPU performance more than doubled while the resolution increase was modest. I can't see many developers setting out to write a game that will require the iPhone 5 to run smoothly and leave everyone else struggling though.
Ok so if there is overpowered weapons you think only the people who play the game for hours on end should beable to use them via rank up system? That doesn't sound fair to me...
It's fair like hell. That's your reward, and still those weapons should be balanced, just like in Trigger Fist.
Couldn't disagree more. Guns should be well balnced so higher ranks only have a slight advantage, so if the lower rank is better he will still beat the higher rank.
Problem with this is going to be optimization. A lot of videos I have seen so far, performance is not impressive at all. Lots of frame drops, low texture, and more. I really want to see how A5 devices could handle this game but I don't think it's going to be that great
Well problem is, all these people wants to make lots of views on YouTube are going to be like "oh this is the best gun ever, go and buy this gun" and everyone will buy it... I hate that. I bet there is a good that is better than others, which concerns me quite a lot
Remember, the perks are level based, so that is one thing that is guaranteed to be based on level. And allowing all the guns to be bought from the start doesn't mean that this game is "freemium", and there is no incentive to level up. There is no indication of how many coins you will gain from each game, and it is possible that the amount differs in-between ranks to allow you to get better guns. And, if the guns are all balanced, then it shouldn't effect gameplay to have a beginner using the g36 or the ak right off the bat....it should be fine (and it will be fun to destroy them using tactics and skill instead of firepower I'm really excited to see this game! I love how they are encouraging customization, and not limiting it because of ranking. I think that they are really trying something COMPLETELY different from mc3 or even cod, and am really happy for them In response to the amount of iAPs in the game, i say "bring it on!". Nothing is more satisfying in mc3 then to be beating up on someone with an prototype or grenade launcher, and even if i am being beaten by them, its a good challenge. And all the people that will eb buying coins are most likely bad at the game, so all that the iAPs are doing is granting noobish players balanced (hopefully) guns , only to be easily beaten by a very satisfied good player. And remember how Gameloft listened to their FANS in response to the killstreak spamming iaps, and how that so drastically changed the game for the better! It makes me laugh, yet feel sick to see the moaning about how this game will be the WORST in the series not because of lag or bad weapons, but because of iAPs, something that will probably only make 10 year old brats waste their money:/
I don't know. I think that makes it unfair to the noobs. Experienced players getting the better weapons is kinda lame. Like I said this way everyone has access to all the weapons right off the bat. Play a few games and get the gun you want...
In mc3, some of the best guns are unlocked quite early. In black ops 2, The best assault rifle is available immediately. The best SMG's all before rank 20 (max is 55) The last guns unlocked aren't near as good as any of those. The idea isn't to get better weapons, just more weapons, and often better to certain specialaties, but never better guns. Bf3's best gun is the first unlocked. As you advance you unlock more. Lower rank people, if they have any skill whatsoever, won't be low rank for long. Everything is fair. But of course you get more stuff at higher ranks. There's no reason to play it if there isn't.
Take a look at the new trailers on the main sight. I dont think we need to worry about hip firing, look at the recoil....even will aiming down the sight!
You should remember that every pro was once a noob. Novice players will have lots of problems with or without rank systems if they don't want to improve their skill. If you still think that this is unfair, ranked matches.
