Dude, there's not such thing as a "pixelated mess" on an iDevice with retina display, that what the retina display is for, to avoid showing pixels, so there is no such thing, you're just on a phase of denial.

The textures are only bad in the A4 devices, on the iPad 2 and forth they look immaculate, much better than some Console games, and that's cause of the Retina display, either you don't playing on a higher device, or you're just trolling.

    Lol "pixelated"

He mentioned on page 27 that he plays on an iPad 2.
So no retina display on that.
In 4s and iPad 3 game does look great.

On iPad 2, it still looks very good but it does have jagged edges that are smooth on iPad 3.
So there is a difference between them.
Not even near the big difference between games on 3GS and 4.
And definitely not a pixelated mess.
But you can still see a difference on the edges of objects.
I've no problem with it myself because it is minor and as we all know retina is better.

Do you rally think Modern Combat 4 can top NOVA 3 graphics?

If they are on par with NOVA 3, that will be more than enough. It's actually going to be quite difficult to do too much better as NOVA 3 does look graphically amazing.
As long as it has the effects (depth of field, lighting and particle, etc.) of NOVA 3 as well.
Proper ragdoll physics would be nice too. I know NOVA 3 has ragdoll but they are very low end.

Well, MC4 will have real-time shadows, and NOVA 3 didn't have that, so I'm sure that MC4's graphics will be better than N3's because it uses an updated version of the N3 engine.

Well, they don't have dynamic lighting lighting like nova 3. When a guy fires, the environment doesn't light up. That could be a beta thing they'll add later or it could be permanent. I for one LOVED the dynamic environmental lighting and hope it shows in mc4.

The big advancement is the realtime shadows for everything, it'll look really nice. That combined with the sharp textures and nice lense flare and noise effects and I think we'll be about even with N3. The problem GLA has is that they set the bar so incredibly high with that game aesthetically speaking, it'll be quite a while before we see them regularly trump it. Kinda like Shadow Guardian. They can do it, but won't put in the effort every time.

Last question of the day do you think the game will run full effects on the iPhone 4S and the iPad third gen?

That's what I'm concerned about. I DO NOT WANT RETINA like wild blood had. Give me 720p + AA and the game should run just fine, keep in mind it began development when the A5 chip was king. I think the A5X should be able to handle all those effects if retina isn't enabled. If they pull a nova on me and I get a dumbed down game with choppy framerate, I shall throw a hissy fit.

Also keep in mind the only advantage the A6 has over the A5X is CPU speed, which is handy for physics calculations, AI and tons of enemies onscreen. The GPU's are about the same (apple said at both keynotes they were double the power of the a5) so if we just can get GL to give a toggle for retina on/off then there's no way it isn't possible on a technical level.

  9. I'm tired of people treating me with disrespect! "Get out of this thread?!" Who do you think you are!

Anyway, like I said, to each their own. My opinion still stands. The UMP (OPS55) could easily be countered with the TDI Kriss Super V (TRX-Reaper). The AA-12 (Roar 3000) has terrible accuracy and range, so all you gotta do is keep your distance. I didn't say the nuke was OP, I said that's not the killstreaks I was talking about. I didn't like the killstreaks. It's my opinion. Get over it.

  10. I'm glad someone pointed that out. Sgt. Downs from MC3 was, IMO, the worst voice acting.

    Look out your window.
Looks like it'll kick some booty.

I hope they keep the mc3 controls for the most part, don't f it up like NOVA.

And I'm serious, just played mc3 a little... if there's one thing I want as much as anything else, it's for hip fire to be less effective. You shouldn't be able to hip fire across a map. Widen the darn cross hairs.

Why wouldn't it on the 4s? Nova 3 did.
iPad 3 effects with retina they might have mastered by now. If not they will have an on off switch for effects or retina.

MC4 release, according to IGN, is Dec 30 2012. Looks like GL has a lot of work to do, either that or the game will be damn well polished. Either way I like it. Means this won't be as rushed at previous releases.

Interestingly enough, the comments at IGN are all positive - everyone is talking about how pathetic it is that MC4 now looks better than the series it cloned. I don't know about that, but it's certainly looking nice.

Quad core on a5x. Triple core on a6.
Smaller screen of iPhone is an obvious (as you'd know) huge advantage to the triple core gpu of the a6.
Quad core on the iPad 3 is a minimum requirement for the resolution it runs at.
The toggle will probably be a must have on iPad 3 I think.

I seriously doubt that full effects + retina resolution are possible. PCs will occasionally have trouble with 1080p, we're asking 1536p out of a mobile device. And even if it was possible, give me AA + full effects + stable framerate any day.

The only time I'm glad I have a retina device for gaming is Bastion. The rest of the time I feel as though I could live with a few jaggies in exchange for a full 2x GPU power increase over the A5.

That's only an IGN estimate. They tend to do that with games that have an unspecified release date.

And the comments are amazingly positive considering its IGN.

Running at 720p means less pixels (I think, can't be bothered with math right now ) than the i5, thus freeing up the GPU to render full effects.

Yeah it's never gonna happen, devs love the selling point of "full retina graphics" but I'm just saying it is feasible on a technical level.

Moreover, I'm incensed that my 6 month old device is now a "maybe" for getting full effects on a game for the platform. Ridiculous.

Ah. Well for a moment there I thought I had a real find...was preparing myself for some pats on the back  guess not.

Edit: does anyone else besides me get the vibe from the teaser that this is a far more serious entry in the series than previous MC games?

    Hence the "might".
It can be done on certain games but for this it depends on the range of effects employed.
(Think Forgotten Memories, lot of effects plus talk of full retina, not confirmed, just talk but still, you never know)
