Same, I'm actually even more of a noob. I don't think I'm even rank 20 yet on MC2, and my k/d is dreadful. Rank 68 on Nova 2 with a k/d of 4+ in about the same time it took me to get to level 18 or so on MC2. Hoping MC3 goes better, lol.
well, at release Modern Combat 2 was 5,50 euros, so a new console game (~50 euros) would have to be about 9 times as good at release. When you look at console games, a year and a half later they can have dropped massively in price. For example, I got Mass Effect for 7 euros with the steam summer camp sale (would have been 20, but hey, we're comparing sale prices here!). Did it offer a 7 times or better singleplayer experience than pretty much any other 3.rd person shooter on iOS? yes. What I'm trying to say is that some home console games are worth the price you pay for them compared to some iOS games. When you look at other handheld gaming devices iOS really does seem to offer more for the money, but I can't really comment here, since I don't have any other mobile gaming deiveces ().
Yeah but your talking about one of the best games ever made for a console system. That's one hell of a trump card that you threw into this thread. Mass Effect 3 will be the only game I truly ever go back to console for. Comparing MW2 and MC3 is a little bit different IMO. [[edit]] Sorry Der-Kleine for some reason I couldn't see the end of your post. I agree with you. Again, sorry
Fair enough. But what about after you factor in that it's portable and your console is not? Should have talked about portable games instead. Splinter Cell 3D is definitely not worth $40 on the 3DS in comparison to the $7 I paid for MC2. Honestly, even Resistance on the PSP isn't worth the $50 in comparison to the $7 I paid for MC2. There's some price discrimination between the platforms too. PvZ on the 3DS eStore is $7.99 (bought it anyways) for a version with awful graphics in comparison to the $2.99 it's always cost on the iOS. We're paying bank-robbery prices. Been playing nearly solely portables for the past five years. Started playing them with the Gameboy Pocket. I'm only 18 xP. But yeah, pretty much every portable gaming device between the GBP and iPad 2, I've played. There's no comparison. iOS wins by far. Expecting good things from the Vita though.
on mc2 my rank is 69 (i've been at rank 69 for several months not kidding) i should be higher but as of late i've been getting my butt kicked badly. on nova2 i'm at rank 42 again lately i've been getting clobbered. we 3 will have to play nova 2 mp together sometime.
I just wish the player base was larger for Nova 2. It doesn't even compare to MC2 in terms of the number of players that are on at any time of the day. Not a fan of the 1.1 GB file size either, lol. MC3 will probably shoot beyond that though.
There are a lot of good conservations going on right now in this thread. It's actually refreshing to see, without getting in a flame war, lol. Truthfully, the way I see it is, yes consoles are great... Bigger screen, sound, etc... There is no comparing something like Gears of War 3 on the big screen to an iOS game. But you know what iOS games are pretty awesome too. When I got Mc2 on release last year. I couldn't believe what an amazing iOS game it was. I still play it on a regular basis and IMO it is still currently the best game on the app market ( soon to be the 2nd best when Mc3 comes out..) Anyway I'm hooked on iOS games because as already mentioned their portable, handheld devices you can take anywhere and enjoy great online games. After a while you get accustomed to the touch screen, ( I like touchscreen controls) and with a price like 7 bucks and with sales of 1 buck. You can't beat that pricing for a quality game. As far as hacking goes on Mc3, yeah eventually it will get hacked but I believe Gameloft will patch it on a regular basis, because they know this game will rack up great sales and a huge following. Btw, if anyone wants to add me as a contact on Mc3, let me know I will send you my username. I'm a rank 73 ( on Mc2), so I'm a pretty good player.
Thanks for adding to the discussion. Like a few people have pointed out, I'm new to this forum, but not new to gaming in the least bit. It really is refreshing to have these types of civil discussions (iOS vs Console seems to be on people's minds nowadays) after coming from places like YouTube where everybody gets pissed. Like I said, anyone that is really going to be into MC3, we should start up a TA lobby. Honestly a lot of my friends don't have iDevices, and if they do have one they still play console more.
definitely nova 2 doesn't have the player base that mc2 has.and on the subject of file size i'm guessing the mc3 will be rather large( so folks start deleting apps. to make room for it)
Yeah, I find those flame wars... console vs iOS hilarious. I mean, why even compare, they are two completely seperate gaming experiences. Eventually consoles will be obsolete and there will just be smart t.v's, with the consoles built in. Then there will be no more PS3 vs Xbox, Wii crap.
I've always been confused why the majority doesn't compare the iOS gaming platform more to other mobile gaming platforms like the psp and ds. It always gets slammed compared to dedicated gaming monster machines. If I could honestly play a solid game like Dark Asylum for example, we might be in heaven. But the truth remains its still a very new platform for gaming and it looks like graphically we are nearing console status but for now I think iPhones are just really cool devices that no one expected would be this popular and this cool. you won't hear me crying that I need to plays Mario games on a Nintendo system or playing a game like mass effect on a 360 or resistance on ps3. These giants of the industry have had dedicated companies and systems for longer than even cell phones have been out. Lets give the iPhone a break and catch up. I feel soon enough we will all be air playing crazy games on our big screens. I will say I'm a little annoyed at MC3 for not giving us some better game engine by now. But hopefully it will give us some tweaked gameplay.
I think it's more of comparing experiences between console and iOS. I think it's, all in all, a healthy discussion. Technology evolves and there are people like us who sit back and talk about it, but it's a good thing because we are letting the developers of new games and game systems know where we are heading. They need a consumer base to stay afloat and we are that. Should we let mobile devices catch up, yes, but they are already doing that. Look at some android smartphones, they will be just as fast as my computer next year ( well, maybe I exaggerated a little bit). Oh yeah, MC3 would be the bees knees if it used something like the Unity engine.
Yes, I see nothing wrong with Gameloft's engine for Mc3. The graphics look great and even better than mc2, which is good enough for me. Besides that, they tried using the Unreal engine on " march of heroes" and I think that's why they dropped the project. They were having too many problems with it.
I'm pretty sure that Gameloft uses the Unreal Engine, unless they changed to the Unity engine for MC3.
Wait, so, they don't use the Unreal engine? [[edit]] Did some recon and they are using their own proprietary engine, that is neither Unity nor Unreal. Here's the post: http://www.droidgamers.com/index.php/game-news/android-game-news/2172-more-information-on-gamelofts-upcoming-fps-game-called-modern-combat-3-fallen-nation Check this post out too: http://www.droidgamers.com/index.php/game-news/android-game-news/2413-modern-combat-3-fallen-nations-from-gameloft-gearing-up-for-release-on-android
I wouldn't be surprised if people would be saying "OMG, it looks so amazing" if it would look exactly the same, but use the unreal engine...
