WOOOOHOOOOO!!!! - before I update... is there a chance that my saved data will be erased? I just hit stage 15 and have 24 Feathers... oh yeah, and the game is now 99 cents!!!! **EDIT** Took a chance... and NO, IT DOES NOT ERASE YOUR SAVED DATA AFTER UPDATING. =oD And the speed is great... THANK YOU FOR THIS UPDATE!!!
IMO - it's on par with Pizza Boy... if not better... I'm sure there's plenty of people that will disagree with me, but there's more levels, more gameplay, and collecting EVERYTHING in the game is more of a challenge. =o)
Game Impressions This game looks gorgeous on retina display, and I'm totally loving the art style. (It's a shame that the opening intro cartoon isn't also in retina display because that animation is also pretty awesome.) As others have said, the music needs to be much, much louder because it's not as immersive as it could be. Also, while apparently this latest version has been updated with the character walking faster, you're so used to Mario controls that you want to be able to run. For example, if you hold down the button, Mario will go from a walk to a run, but here, Claire walks at a constant slow speed, which feels unnatural to me. Jumping on most enemies doesn't kill them and they're safe to walk on top of, but instead, you pick up different square fruit/vegetable blocks to throw at them. Jumping on aerial enemies kills them, though. I'm loving how the map feels like the NES Mario world map, and there's a certain charm to the whole game. I think Pizza Boy has better controls overall, but I'll dig more into this great game as well. I'd love for the dev to address some of my suggestions, but I can understand if he won't be able to implement them. Overall, a solid game at the sale price. EDIT: Just realized that when you stand on the enemies, you can pick them up and throw them. This game just got more fun!
So reading that there's no checkpoints, I take it that this isn't really a game that can be played in short spurts? Sounds like something I'd enjoy, but unfortunately, I rarely get long gaming sessions in on my iPod Touch.
Nope, no checkpoints, all old school-style. The levels aren't THAT long (like Pizza Boy), but yeah, it's only short spurt playing in the sense that it does in-app switching.
This is one of the aspects of the game that I LOVE - like in Grokion, some of the enemies are there to help you reach places in the level that can't normally be reached.
I compressed the opening intro (and the ending) because the game must not exceed 20MB. But I have these video in 1080P 25fps. I will update the game if the limit changes. Initially, it was 10MB.
Erg, I really wanna love this game, but the lack of checkpoints makes it so frustrating! I've been stuck on level 5 forever with those thorns, and I don't even know if it's worth it to keep trying because all the slight control issues I'm having is hampering the fun. I'm also realizing how much I utterly suck at platformers, and I don't know if the great style is enough for me to keep going. Appspy posted a pretty spot-on review, so here's hoping for some more performance adjustments... http://bit.ly/ijc6Zx
He doesn't miss a jump or a throw in the video. Not bad for unintuitive controls. Anyway, there will be no checkpoint in Miss Claire Garden. The Levels were not designed for.
WOOOOOO! thank you! This game would be a little too easy with checkpoints, and that's one of the things I LOVE about this game, the difficulty. If it was just another platformer you could run through, I wouldn't love it like I do. =oP I also really really like the throwing distances... The character isn't some musclely freak that can throw everything half way across the screen... It takes some thought while throwing/dropping items onto an enemy. Did I mention that I LOVE this game... Just the way it is...? =oP It's taken the #2 spot on my favorite iPod platformers list. =oD
It's old school. Qualities or flaws, according to the players. Anyway this was intentional, so this will not change.
That's a silly reason, to be honest. There are a bajillion games that are much, much larger that sell like gangbusters on the App Store. I also hear that the game does not support Retina display resolutions. I'll pass unless there are planned updates to fix these problems.
Update's available. TY for changing the music volume! But why'd you change the throwing? Now everything is thrown the same distance, standing still or not... =o/ The ground also seems a little slippery with the speed change... Sorry, little bit upset with the gameplay changes... I am on stage 24 w/ 57 feathers... If you're use to the gameplay, and like it, I'd advise against updating. I think I'll give it a day of playtime, but with the updates, I don't know if this will stay my #2 favorite iPod platformer for long... I almost wanna cry... Yes, flame me now... But really, this game took SOOSIZ out of it's 13 month stand at #2 on my plaformer list...
AHHHHHHHH yup, ended up deleting it... REALLY glad I moved a copy of 1.1 to another folder before updating... I'll just have to start from scratch. Refuse to let this app end up in my never played again bundle of games... I do hope that you get more sales after changing the gameplay so drastically... I don't expect you to revert to the old gameplay after this, I know you did it to please everyone else... But personally, v1.1 is going to be the best version of this game. Good luck, Chris! To the rest of you... SHAME ON YOU FOR PRETTY MUCH FORCING A DEV TO CHANGE AN AMAZING GAME!!!
