      aside from playing through the story mode, what else enables you to unlock more planes? im having a frustrating time figuring this out- any help?

      Scoring combos I.e. Shooting down a number of planes without you getting shot even once yourself

      It shows how to unlock each plane by tapping on one of the planes in "My Squadron."
