Just so everyone knows, the minis aren't limited to the Go, they're coming to the Store in general, meaning you'll be able to get them on a regular PSP-1000, -2000, or -3000 as well. It's just considered a boon for Go owners 'cause they'll have more to play right now, whereas everyone with an older PSP like me will still have their UMDs.

Of course, I have most of the best minis taken from the App Store on my iPhone already anyway. You should be happy for these little developers, 'cause it means that they're "big enough" that Sony wants them. Since Apple doesn't support them - just through sales - this is really great for them. Now maybe Sony will invest in them a bit and we can see them do more groundbreaking working, even if it's limited to the PSP (and maybe eventually the PS3. Minigore did a Minigore HD mock-up of what it might look like on the PS3's PSN.)

I am sorry I just don't see Minigore working out for the PSP. It wouldn't be accurate enough it just wouldn't. I can barely take care of swarming hordes of furries with the digital analog sticks, I can't imagine having to do it with just the face buttons.

Unless they have it to where you move around with the analog stick and just hold, say, X to shoot and you do it like that. Then that would be feasable, but then it wouldn't be as fun, plus you wouldnt be able to run backwards and shoot, which is a huge tactic later on in the game. :(

How much will it be on the PSP though? Certainly not .99 cents.

Eh, Super Stardust Portable works okay. Not great, just okay. I still prefer Geometry Wars Galaxies on DS, and even moreso Isotope and pretty much any of the multidirectional shooters on iPhone/touch (oh, especially 2079 - accelerometer movement + circle disc aim/shoot is great in that game).

Here's my problem with PSP Go: It's too expensive for what is basically a PSP with the UMD drive ripped out and replaced with internal storage. It's obviously Sony's attempt to counter iPhone/touch, but it's a misguided attempt for two reasons:

    1. iPhone/touch is in a different market. PSP is a portable game system, iPhone/touch a mobile device. There may be some crossover in terms of consumer audience, but those in the market for mobile devices aren't necessarily in the market for game systems. Maybe Sony just wants to ignore the butt rape they're getting from Nintendo's "ghetto handheld" :)rolleyes:), but DS remains their primary competition whether they like it or not.

    2. Obviously PSP Go, by form factor but especially price, is supposed to be geared toward the usual mobile device consumer (who both skews slightly older and with more disposable income than portable game system consumers). But, if that's the case, why market to a group that isn't all too interested in portable game systems with a portable game system?

Why not instead merge the technology used in PSP with the Walkman line of MP3 players if the objective is to get some of the consumers in the mobile market and directly compete with Apple? Why not take it a step further and put that tech in a mobile phone (with both Walkman and PSP capabilities)?

There. You now fight in two markets with one platform. In the portable game system market they'd have PSP proper going against DS, and in the mobile market a Walkman w/PSP tech and/or PSP based phone going against Apple's iPhone/touch and whatever MS has cooked up for ZuneHD/Windows Mobile (and I do not think MS is just going to release a portable media device only...they'll release a phone based on ZuneHD...and it'll all be on Windows Mobile with XNA/LIVE platform support). By doing this and in addition opening up development as they have done, smaller developers in the mobile market would have been willing to look into supporting the PSP platform, because then the PSP platform wouldn't just be in the portable game system market only but also in the mobile market where they know the type of consumer they usually target will be.

Instead, what does Sony do? Release a redesigned portable game system in an attempt to market to consumers that don't typically buy portable game systems. Wow. Brilliant, Sony

You make several great points that I completely agree with. Their Marketing ideas and they way they have been selling their systems just completely baffles me. I mean maybe it's different over there in Japan, cause over here they look like 16 year old kids that just got thier driver's license wrecking daddy's new Porche he let them borrow for the weekend.

As of late, I have reason to believe that Sony's Advertisement and Marketing Directors, in collaboration with thier Hardware Engineer's and Think Tanks, are all smoking some of Japan's worst batch of crack ever made.

Maybe they all caught some sort of bug from that animal sacrifice they made to celebrate the release of God of War a few years back. Like mad goat disease or something. It's eating away at their brains.

I'm pretty sure all the PSP community does is laugh at Hero of Sparta(I also have a PSP) especially when it came out they were calling it a rip off, so why is it even coming to PsP when we have God of War? That, and Sony sucks at marketing for such a big company.
