I had exactly the same thing (wiped data, bought characters not bought) and used my account and it bought the game but then said that I had already bought it and that I get it for free. Maybe you need the money on the account so that it knows you can afford it then the message interrupts it and says that you already have it. You might need more credit to get it, even if it is free.
Lol this Update is an Epic Fail. Just unlocked the insane Mode, died, wanted to select a new character, and..... all existing kills (well the few I could get at the last minutes -_-) were gone and Jerry Gore is Locked again + Insane Mode locked, too.
Take a deep breath... now, you will be able to get your bought characters back by hitting the buy button (using the same account that you bought the DLC with) and it will say that you have already purchased the DLC and that you get it for free. As for the unlocked characters, there is probably nothing Timo can do about it. Don't take it out on Timo. Unfortunately these things happen and bugs get through nets. There was really nothing Timo could have done to foresee this. I really feel sorry for you though. Let's all cry in a corner somewhere.
I know u can rebuy dlc for free, but EVERY reload I have to! So if I don't have wifi I can't play as Easter Bunny!
O and if an updates a severe bug fix (like there will be for this) they get pushed thru WAY faster, so I guess that's the bright side...
Oh, I stupidly did not realise that it reset every reload. Man that is bad. Ah well, we will just have for an update.

AH DAMN! I LOST ALL MEH CHARACTERS! I played it once and it was awesome but I left the app and when i got back in it had no memory. I purchased the DLC for free again but i dont have any more characters. EDIT: AH DAMN! didnt read the blog
Are you sure that the purchase was free...? in some blog's many people complain for the opposite!!! Check your iTunes account / purchase history!!!

I'm sorry for your issue paul1998. That sucks. For the rest of us: I upgraded to v3.7 with no hiccups (3.6 already installed on my iPhone 3G) On a side note, I hope iPhone OS 4.0 finally lets you back up all of your save game data onto your computer to prevent these catastrophes.
Oh, Zombie Bunny and Zombie Gore were included as a "Hardland Premium" purchase (i.e. its free if you purchased Mobster Gore/Kid Gore)
