(Dev here) Gameplay started more like a memory sort of game, and at one point when iterating on it we ended up drawing some inspiration from both Minesweeper and Picross to make it more fun. After some other dozen iterations it eventually evolved to the gameplay we have now. There's also a Pokemon minigame called Voltorb Flip which a player compared ours to, it seems to play similarly as well. Gotters Well-Known Member Oct 27, 2016 114 31 28 #4 Gotters, May 18, 2018 really nice game, as a big picross fan really enjoying it have to ask though are you always 100% able to logically assess your next move (i.e. not guess) - I understand the principles of picross where this is always the case but couple of times here even on simpler levels been scratching my head (I think I may be missing something in the logic but not sure what !) Felipe MGaia Well-Known Member Aug 7, 2013 122 5 18 #5 Felipe MGaia, May 18, 2018 Yep, you can always calculate your next step using logic only. After a level is generated, there's an algorithm that tries to beat the level; if it comes to an unreadable step, it adds some extra info to the board and tries to beat it again, then keeps doing that until it's ok until the end. One thing that the algorithm uses and you may want to use yourself are "flags for safe tiles". Of course there isn't such a feature in the game, but you can "mentally use" it (memorizing the tiles which you can safely say that are clean) and it'll help you read the board. If you want, feel free to post a screenshot of a board you're having trouble with here and I can try to help you understand what kind of read you're missing! I should not have got this; I have stuff to do! y2kmp3 Well-Known Member Jun 25, 2010 1,784 3 38 #7 y2kmp3, May 19, 2018 How is the star rating determined for each level? The game's tutorial never explained this. indalico Well-Known Member Aug 25, 2011 660 0 16 ohio #8 indalico, May 19, 2018 I played about 30 minutes last night. It's a brilliant take on minesweeper with some nonogram and other logic thrown in, and it really meshes quite well. MetaGonzo Well-Known Member May 7, 2009 1,451 265 83 #9 MetaGonzo, May 19, 2018 They’re lives. ie. 3 stars, didn’t die; 2 stars, died once etc. Edit: @ v2kmp3 nyanpass Well-Known Member Dec 30, 2017 3,374 1,043 113 #10 nyanpass, May 19, 2018 A new re-interpretation of the classic game!? Their attempt is great. RHess00 Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Apr 28, 2012 835 1 18 #11 RHess00, May 19, 2018 Is this something that you could add? I would love the option to flag safe tiles. RHess00 Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Apr 28, 2012 835 1 18 #12 RHess00, May 19, 2018 Ive found that you cant identify all the mines just by using the numbers like you can with picross. You have to keep moving because one way to identify a safe tile is if you only have one available option then it has to be safe. Took me awhile to adjust to that. y2kmp3 Well-Known Member Jun 25, 2010 1,784 3 38 #13 y2kmp3, May 19, 2018 Thanks. Did not die yet so I totally missed that. slewis7 Well-Known Member Apr 6, 2011 3,768 41 48 Male Retired! Houston, TX #14 slewis7, May 19, 2018 I enjoy a good Minesweeper derivation, but does this one add anything? Also, it looks kind of easy. fabianb Well-Known Member Nov 1, 2014 1,009 0 36 #15 fabianb, May 19, 2018 Really my kind of game. Extremely polished. Flags make it kind of easy (not all the times though!). But when you don’t use flags, you really need to grind those brains. Lovely, thanks for the game! PS, I adore the random level creator. Also helps against cheating for those 3 stars, heh. RHess00 Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Apr 28, 2012 835 1 18 #16 RHess00, May 19, 2018 Its really more like picross than minesweeper. As far as difficulty, Ive completed 45 levels with one death and I was just rushing that time. If you take your time and think about every move, its not too difficult. I do like it though and Im sure the higher levels will be harder to complete. Felipe MGaia Well-Known Member Aug 7, 2013 122 5 18 #17 Felipe MGaia, May 20, 2018 You aren't the first one to ask this, it's something we're considering. The downside is that it could make the game way too easy. Some people think the game is more on the easy side as it is now, and the flags certainly play a big role in this. Originally we didn't have flags in the game and it was late in the development that we decided to add them, aware that they'd make the game easier. As the levels started to get bigger, it started to get too hard - and not in a fun way for most of our testers, but in a frustrating way because you had to keep re-reading the board a bunch of times as you progressed in the level. You have to keep a mental record of bomb placements and safe blocks when you play without flags. By the way, we have a couple of "challenge achievements" you should all check out, people have been enjoying doing them a lot. A series of them involves finishing some levels without using flags. ---------- Yep, forgot to tell you all about this, but this is absolutely true (and intended). You can always read your next step, but you cannot always read the entire board before making any movements. RHess00 Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Apr 28, 2012 835 1 18 #18 RHess00, May 20, 2018 Youre probably right. The smaller levels are a little easy as it is and the larger ones are just about right. I havent made it to those levels yet but it sounds interesting. Especially the without letting Ari fall asleep challenges. That would be a good idea for a hard mode. Maybe you could lose a star for every time he falls asleep and the third time you have to start over. slewis7 Well-Known Member Apr 6, 2011 3,768 41 48 Male Retired! I am enjoying it. nyanpass Well-Known Member Dec 30, 2017 3,374 1,043 113 #20 nyanpass, May 20, 2018 The forgotten classic game has been reinterpreted and I am pleased to be able to play it thanks to the developers. It is a real ability to create cool things with ordinary materials. I think this can be applied not only to the genre of puzzle but also to various genres. Anyway, we need to talk a bit more about this great game. And I found that this game has multilingual support in 9 languages. It would be nice if it was added to the app store description for this game. If these descriptions are listed in the app introduction, more users can enjoy this game.
